RP/Kingdoms Admin

I think there should be a staff member specifically taking the role of regulating kingdoms and roleplaying. This is an idea that has been brought up before, and I'd like to bring it up again :p

Part of their job should be similar to an EM, but go beyond that.

Here are some things that should be part of such a job:
-Making sure leaders are actively ruling in EVERY way (active in game, active on forums, have development going on in debug)
-Make sure kingdom activity is going on (events being regularly hosted... and maybe supply each leader equally with some EC's or stuff of that sort to be evented off)
-Ensure a productive change-of-leadership whenever leadership is changed
-Administrate battles between kingdoms
-Make sure roleplaying is being encouraged and done by the kingdoms, with the leaders and high-ranking officials required to provide a good example by roleplaying while on tag.
-Encourage inter-kingdom activity, such as alliances, enemies, wars...
-Make sure kings are leading honorably (not using their kingdoms as non-RP PK-guilds... regulating their own kingdom, enforcing rules, etc)
-And of course, helping leaders in whatever way possible, or leading them in the right direction to acheive productive results

A big thing that bothers me is today's status of roleplaying. Long ago, people could not join kingdoms without showing knowledge of roleplaying. They were required to be IC while on tag,and use brackets for OOC talk while on tag. Now it seems to just be a matter of choice; and people are frequently joining kingdoms without knowing anything about roleplaying. With certain changes taking place, roleplaying can return once again, and help increase the activity and playercount of Graal Kingdoms.

We've tried that 2 years ago and it doesn't work. But maybe it works now.

A big part of it is the person you choose.
The person should be carefully chosen.
The person should be a very active roleplayer.
Staff can't have the best point-of-view on who the person should be, because you have to actually see the person on a regular basis. Many people will make themselves look good to you by hosting big RP events, but on a daily basis these people may simply do no RPing. And RPing should be done regularly.
You can't simply do a poll, because the majority of people may be non-RPing and simply vote in someone they like, as oppose to someone who is best for the job.
So a variety of factors, including people's opinions, should be used on deciding.
Maybe have a thorough application process for this the same way that other staff jobs are done.

Zone gets Dan: GK can definitely get the same treatment ^^

Id rather say no as GK is just lacking the critical mass of players to start anything kingdoms-ish.

Pimmeh 01-11-2008 02:07 PM

I believe that neither did Zone before some updates, right?

Ravenblade1979 01-11-2008 08:17 PM

Not many people want to RP anymore on Gk either. a good percentage are there to pk/usd/scam/be annoyances.

Gothika 01-11-2008 08:49 PM

I happily RP while on tag. Espiecialy over GMs. If I'm in bomb trade however. I won't RP unless spoken to in an RP manner.

Pimmeh 01-11-2008 09:16 PM

I went to GK first to hope that there was some cooler RPing then on Valikorlia...But there wasn't. so I quit

It's a kind of good idea, I think we need more players before this happens though.

Maybe if some things were fixed, the community would get more people like this:

Graal Kingdoms has too long of a way to go before it's RPing can be better than Valikarlia.
However, if you define "cooler" the same way I do, then, GK does have the potential to have "cooler RPing" than Valikarlia in the near future with some fixes.
Last I saw, Valikarlia lacked the systems we have which we can incorporate into RPing.
We have the class system, boat battles, many different types of items in the game...

There used to be more players, thus more rule-breaking. But now there aren't, and this will balance all kingdoms leader-wise. And RP-wise.

Also, maybe if there were some ACTIVE police in MOST time zones, there would be less scamming, annoyances, etc. This could also be Player Relations for Police and communicating staff to players, and vice-versa.

GK has RPing but it's more relaxed than Valikorlia and it's really up to what kingdom your in and if the people in your kingdom RP aswell.

I agree, but It takes the players to make the RP not the features.
But what you say is true. RPing can be incorporated into all those things and more. I use my Class for RP purposes, I RP during boat battles. And a lot more could be done. Skills, such as disarm trap ect could be used in RP.
But we really need the players with a passion for RPing. And being so little RP games out there (Online RP anyway) people don't get into it as much.
I know Event Masters used to host RP Lessons. We could do that again to get the ball rolling again.

Sorry that came out wrong i've edited my post.

I disagree with that absolutly. Scamming is in more than in 90percent of the cases the fault of the people who got scammed.
People deserve to loos their items if they are that intelligent and let other one "try" an item to see how it looks or if the stats get any better. You can use ganishop for the exact look and you can count the stats of the weapon to your current ones this is not hard.
Also showing stuff on tradetables you want to sell is a big risk. Lots of people already did cry that they clicked the green flag on addicent. Then don't put your stuff on the table if the other table side is not taken by someone who wants to buy something from you and just gets on in hope you click the wrong flag.

There is a safe way to trade your stuff, if you don't use if wise no other protection can help, too.

Ravenblade1979 01-12-2008 06:56 PM

1) GK Police had some problems and were disbanded. So technically besides EM's being able to pillor..all you really have is EM's and FAQ reporting to Bjorn and Sam.

2) Its not the stuff that needs fixing. I don't know if people realize this but its us(the GK populace) that were the rpers. Even if stuff was fixed I doubt that rping would come back. First step is to get the populace back into it. You can fix all you want but if people aren't into it then they just aren't into it plain and simple.

3) Have to go with Bjorn on this one. In most cases when it comes to scamming its the person who got scammed fault. They either clicked the green flag/were dumb enough to say /dropall or let someone "try" their weapon/armor etc. We need to define scamming clearer so there isn't so many reports about scamming.

True.
But it's not always scamming.
It's people that bother you constantly aswell.

Then thats harrassment.. take some pics or something and forward to bjorn. eventually they will get enough complaints that he will have to listen.

I think it should be up to the leader of the kingdoms to teach, or appoint someone to teach rping, and enforce it. forest, cp, and Zormite should be having wars, making treatries... abd breaking those treaties. eventually if the other kingdoms don't join in on the fun, or take it too far... the leaders will get overthrown if you complain enough.

Answer me this:
Do you want fast action, or something that will take a while?

Oh, you mean that
http://support.graalonline.com/
isnt fast enough for you??

Forum pm Sam or Bjorn if you have an issue, get screenshots for proof too. They won't do anything unless you have actual proof that the person is breaking some rule.

Otherwise all you can do is complain to your kingdom leader about someone not really trading fair or a friend. Alot of kingdoms don't let scammers have an easy time in their kingdom.

I actually do agree with Bjorn, most people just say they got scammed now just so others give them some items. I wouldnt even be supprized if they just stuffed their items on another account.

Ravenblade1979 01-12-2008 11:47 PM

Maybe each kingdom needs a new rank for Rping so they can make sure their members are doing it and are taught how.

Forest allready has its own set of RP rules and guidlines. What most people do not see, is that alot of what people say can be RP, so alot of it is rather grey area.

It IS the "stuff" that needs fixing. "No one wants to RP" is a statement based on the current population. Most RPers won't stick around if things aren't being done for their best interest- RPing. That's why kingdoms need to be better regulated so that leaders will come together and actually do things. If each kingdom is just doing its own thing, nothing interesting will happen.

I'm not trying to bash Forest in any way. But the only person I ever see RPing in Forest these days are Kara and John. Some of the members that were in forest a week or so ago were all anti-RP.

You are right. Right now, I'd say theres only 4-5 people who play that I can have a decent RP conversation with. Which is sad because 2-3 years ago, almost everyone that was on tag would RP. Especialy in events, even if it wasn't an RP event.

About 2 years ago, Alan issued a rank called Trainer and Master Trainer to CP (It might have been there before that but I didn't notice it.)
Anyway, Their job was to show the new guys the ropes. Teach them some basics of RP and the game. We could bring that back. The rank is still there. But no one is intrested in it.

Ravenblade1979 01-13-2008 02:54 AM

I still don't think that fixing bugs will really bring in the rpers. Again it comes down to the players themself.
