Does anyone have unused/spare server

hey guys, i realize that this topic will get my flamed, but thats ok. If you have a spare server, or even one you dont ever use, please let me know, because i would like to start a server, and will pay for one in time, just cant right now. If you plan to flame me for this, just remember, im only asking people, so your flaming really doesn't mean a thing to me >_<

so yeah, if you have a spare/unused server, please PM me, letting me know details and such xD

Angel_Light 01-10-2008 01:10 AM

Not really trying to flame, but do you know who Jigga is? If not, talk to him first. :/

xXziroXx 01-10-2008 01:10 AM

May I ask what kind of project you would run on the server, if someone were to actually provide you with one?

This post wouldn't exactly encourage people too it, since you've shared zero thoughts about your idea. Come on, do your best, blow us away and convince someone out there to help you.

Mystery0llama7 01-10-2008 02:15 AM

lol, ok, my ideas (without giving too much away) are to make a shooter, that has a 1940s look to it, with a lot of mafia type things going on. Im tired of modern or future, and western is blah, i think the 1940s look would be a different approach to "modern" style playerworlds.

Not only for that reason, i also want to expand my experience with this engine, so that i may think up more creative ideas:)

Sands of Glory was based in WWII-- 1940's.

Whatever you make, just remember that you can never live up to Sands of Glory's name. Good luck :)

MrAnonymous_P2P 01-10-2008 03:46 AM

lol Yes you can never live of to SOG's horribly corrupt staff and crappy server graphics. Ahh yes.

Exactly. :)

And I was one of those "horribly corrupt staff", you ***** :(

Just kidding, it was crazy, though I still work with most of the staff from then (Jave, Drake, sometimes even Darky)

Tracker180 01-10-2008 04:36 AM

Mystery0llama7 01-11-2008 01:18 AM

lol, still, i would love to create a server :P

gemini2 01-11-2008 01:30 AM

I liked the earlier version of SoG, when it was mostly brown wooden walls and floors and sand on the inside portion. My first developing job ever was on Sands. It was the only shooting server that I liked at all z.z

I liked that too ... I've been working on SoG for like three-four years now ...

I don't mean to be an arse but you're failing to see the difference between his idea and the SoG concept. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but the weapons on Sands of Glory were horribly out of era (not the playerworld, the time frame).

The mafia thrived between 1928-1934, then started to dwindle around the 1940's (due to WW2), then picked back up around the 50's and 60's. :3

they changed it?!?! oh yea, it was that stupid urban thing, Iliked the one where is was only one map where there were two teams and an independant option

Mystery0llama7 01-11-2008 01:25 PM

my plan is to make 2 or 3 families that you can join, with bases, and missions that hurt the other family. this way i could make events based on that too. not to mention, your rank would REALLY be on how you were, because i would use an NPC for the Overlord. then you do missions, and get rank points. Im not sure what im going to do for the missions, yet, but i know ill come up with some interesting ideas :)

I've never been fond of developing a server with someones kindness of hosting it. You run the risk of them claiming the server as their own and loosing ownership of it. You're much better off waiting until you can afford to buy it on your own and starting it yourself. Or at the very least using the 3 way shared alternative with a couple close friends.

first off, i would save it along the way, and store the files on my computer so i could put them on another server if needed, second, even if they did that, it wouldnt last long, seeing as they have NO idea how to do anything if they planned to steal it all along, therefor it would fail in time, and the server that is rehosted would prevail in the end xD

Switch 01-11-2008 11:20 PM

Copyright
AFK.
No one's allowed to do that or they could get reported, for one, because it was YOUR idea, no one can steal it unless you fail to start.
Peeki told me that from a Microsoft meeting plan thing presentation.

Hmm, would be funny if Microsoft copyrighted all the computers in the world and could claim your computer whenever they wanted because you didn't download updates for windows :(

Except you can't because you don't own the server. Same thing happened to Utopia.

Works for me. Would make people switch to Mac I suppose.

firefury 01-14-2008 10:51 PM

What happened to SoG Really... I used to play it like all the time... I was the first PLAYER to Get to see the "Era"ish modern world... I won one of those tickets in blackjack...

Horrified 01-20-2008 05:20 PM

It would be cool to see something that isn't gangs, maybe based on a war? You can have a server based on the beginnings of the Americas for example, the 13 colonies and such, and make that really old style of fighting where soldiers would march in rows and shoot only on command, even a real way to reload the gun using the mouse to put ceartin parts in ceartin areas, not just pressing R.

Interaction is the only way your 2D server can survive.
