RC Rights - PCID and IP.

I've thought about this for a while and I'm not sure if anyone has suggested it before, but why not.

Recently my PCID got banned from Era for duping items, and I know for a fact it wasn't anyone on my computer, simply because I'm the only person who logs onto it and I don't even play Era myself. I know that it's extremely easy to change your PCID, and to mimic others (although it is extremely unlikely) and that leaves people who have started using PCID for rights at risk.

Currently the RC rights look to see if you're matching in any field you enter, on multiple id/ip's if applicable. Personally I'd like to see it depend on both your PCID and IP matching as a combination, rather than just any one from the list of ID's and ranges. If you've only got an IP listed obviously it would check with that, and the same for PCIDs; but if you've got an IP and PCID listed it should probably check both before giving you access.

You make a good point.

CRAP IT THOUGHT NOONE USED THAT PCID!

Anyway, I agree ... partly with what you're saying. I wish that MAC address was used instead of PCID; but what do I know about that? My IP changes A LOT, and not in ANY pattern AT ALL (##.##.*.*, etc does not work). Therefor, I use PCID for my IP ranges.

I support this, except with a PW owner account.

PCIDs are made from MACs, in certain situations.

I think Stefan should just improve the PCID system... use stuff like mobo/hard drive serial, bios identifiers, mac and a fewe other unique identifiers in a combination.

MAC alone is one of the more easily changed identifiers.

I use a pcid because my IP range at home changes a lot. However, I also have an IP address in my rights for when I access RC from a computer on campus. It would cause mayhem if it had to check for both.

If you really want it, then maybe something like:
(pc:12345, 127.0.0.1)
Where you use parenthesis for a pcid/ip pair would be better.

I think the pcid system is better. It is extremely hard to get your graal pcid to change to a specific number. However, it is fairly easy to set your MAC address to pretty much anything you want.

My IP is dynamic... I ONLY use my laptop. pcid is great for me.. By coupling ip/pcid... You'd defeating the point of having a pcid in any case (maybe unless you have wildcards, in which case, *.*.*.* should be allowed. )

Stefan's working on some improved checks for PC id's I believe (as I remember him saying this in RC sometime), but I'm not sure.
