30 minute idler

I'm sure you know about this... so it's just a reminder to fix the broke idler. It doesn't kick you offline after idling for 30 mins. People are just racking up hours from idling for hours, days, and even weeks. It is very misleading cause people have so many hours, and they are not actually playing.

xAzerothx 10-23-2007 08:26 PM

So what if people have more hours then you?

ViperZakuto 10-23-2007 08:33 PM

no not so what. I actually play for my hours instead of idling.

They take up bandwidth because they want to sit there doing nothing just for some hours. Why should bandwidth be wasted for that?

ViperZakuto 10-23-2007 11:08 PM

good point dusty, save the BW for players not idlers

It is a big deal when servers require a certain amount of server playing time in order to be certain staff.

xAzerothx 10-24-2007 12:10 AM

You shouldn't be judged by hours. There's the really good people with hardly any amount of hours and the people who suck with thousands of hours.

kia345 10-24-2007 12:28 AM

"hai guyz, i gots 1000hrs so u can turst me with ur items, i just wnt to test dem"

Newer players generally look at people with a lot of hours as people who can be trusted because [they haven't been banned yet] they have seemingly been around awhile.

DustyPorViva 10-24-2007 12:36 AM

Ya, the whole hours to be staff thing is a bit dumb. I can understand... a little... that you wouldn't hire someone with 2 hours as GP. But how exactly does hours equate to trust or skill? Especially when this forces the person to most likely idle. Want a job as an ET? They should have you prove you actually know stuff by testing you. This stuff should be done by testing your knowledge, and letting you prove yourself via trial positions and such.
Hours should be taken out all-together. All it does it encourage people to idle, which lags others who actually want to play.

I believe disconnecting idle players is a server option (and the last time I checked ... about a week or two ago, it is working fine). One thing I have found is that if someone logs off while in observer mode, and they close graal, that person's account will remain online for a long period of time.

ViperZakuto 10-24-2007 02:18 AM

nope it's still broken. I stayed in the same spot for about 1 hour and it didn't kick me.

Switch 10-24-2007 03:18 AM

He means the option to turn off the "disconnectifnotmoved" in the server ops.

Tigairius 10-24-2007 03:04 PM

I think there should be a way to define how many minutes the player is idle before it kicks, like
disconnecttime=30
in server options.

ViperZakuto 10-24-2007 05:01 PM

hmm that would be cool for devs =D

Ravenblade1979 10-24-2007 07:22 PM

Well we need that idle kicker back. Its amazing. I have seen one person standing idle for a week straight.

Googi 10-24-2007 07:59 PM

Isn't this only on 2K2?

xAndrewx 10-24-2007 10:16 PM

Yea but I think he's saying it's a bug but I'm saying that the staff disabled the option on GK which can be done anywhere xD

Way to spam. Your kingdom and Spam Lord's kingdom (IXI) should join forces :p:cool:

Just think of the possibilities... not worth my brain power

i think it should stay

TalonShriner 10-25-2007 01:11 PM

The reason that you can just sit there for hours on end is because when most people are idling, they aren't in the idle gani. They are usually grabbing, sitting or pulling something, dodging the script. Also, I think that the emotes prevent you from being kicked.

ViperZakuto 10-25-2007 01:27 PM

emotes don't stop you from being kicked... unless it's a bug that recently appeared. Also How come I was standing in the same place for 1 hour with FAQ tag off and didn't get kicked.

also grabbing and stuff like that doesn't actually keep you from being kicked either. you have to move your character around the screen to not get kicked. I used to get kicked all the time... unless I moved my character... no matter what else i was doing.

DustyPorViva 10-25-2007 02:07 PM

Yes, as long as your position is not the same, you will not considered idling. If you have a script that constantly moves your player, you won't be kicked, even if you press nothing at all.

ViperZakuto 10-25-2007 07:45 PM

people idle by holding left and right at the same time with a real life tool that presses the buttons while there gone.

Also, I'm sure if someone used a script to idle... it would eventually be found and stopped by V5. Were not dealing with V3 Graal here.

Switch 10-26-2007 01:19 AM

It's up to the scripter to do it not globals :\ Globals can REQUEST they delete the script but can't actually delete it...

alcatis 10-26-2007 02:17 AM

I hate it on UN. People idle in the spar, and makes it lag like... I live on the moon or something.

Graal's detection is one of the - sorry - worst ones out there. Well, a bad one is better than nothing. Its easy to hide stuff from Graal.

DustyPorViva 10-26-2007 03:11 AM

The more players in the level, the more slowdown. Lots of players in a level is terrible.
