Why don't we have a FAQ team?

Unlike the people who want a reset/updates, I've tried actually talking to trials/newbies/former GK players (the latter being hard to find and get to talk in substantive numbers). Many complaints are due to ignorance (i.e. not being able to level much due to not knowing about monsters other than bunnies/shell bomies/other common overworld ones). Having EMs act as FAQs doesn't work because there isn't an on-tag EM more than 95 percent of the time and even if there is, players don't associate an EM tag with giving advice like they do a FAQ tag.

well googi tell bjorn to give you a tag...

cyan3 09-13-2007 08:49 AM

I agree, GK needs some kind of FAQ to help the newer players.

Sky 09-13-2007 02:07 PM

Ya, FAQ's are something semi needed. D:

Rufus 09-13-2007 02:45 PM

Although I don't play Kingdoms, I never quite could get into things, simply because of the lack of direction. I completely agree with you Googi, Kingdoms probably should have some sort of FAQ team.

dNeonb 09-13-2007 02:58 PM

We thought about that around one year ago already but we threw away out thoughts again. We couldn't think of someone who would be able to do it and also actually do it. The only people who were able to do it were like this...

Person: *Cry* GK is going to waste!
Staff: Want to help?
Person:*CRY*

I'd do it, and I'm sure Googi is a pretty nice canidate for the job too. o_o

Ravenblade1979 09-13-2007 05:19 PM

Yeah well the job got thrown to us EM's. And I am on all day and do help people as much as I can. Wether the other EM's come on or not isn't my problem. I do my job. And frankly you don't need to have the official tag to be able to help people. Just answer their questions plain and simple.

Yeah, the lack of direction sucks. It could be fixed by adding ingame stuff that somewhat show you where to go through quests and stuff. And I'm not talking about the random NPC escorts...

perhaps a random pop-up "help" window when you are just aimlessly walking around and haven't killed anything your level?

halp: hi u y u fitin des monstars lvl 200???? u lvl 2!!!!!!!! u go 2 da bomys or w/e....

Bell 09-13-2007 05:59 PM

While its true you don't need a tag to help people. What about those new people that come on and don't really know who anyone is. Are they supposed to message every player online and ask them how to get started in the game? Usually the response they get if any at all is go away noob..... or worse.

I do my best to answer question. I even answer most massed questions.

I'd do FAQ work. I know when GK first came out I quit after an hour or so cause I didn't know what to do. I eventually tried again and figured it out.

I agree having a FAQ team would help out.

cyan3 09-13-2007 09:08 PM

I answer all questions people ask me and if i were not a kingdom leader i'd do FAQ work as well.

I had a few positions (including FAQ and FAQ Chief) back on 2K1. Although under normal circumstances I don't apply and reject all offers of staff positions, I'd be willing to become FAQ (and only FAQ) on 2K2 out of recognition of how dismal the situation is.

Actually it did but how do should you know, I did not ask you. Maybe some one else did. P ersonally asked Yann and Paul who else was asked I can't remember because it was not me who asked someone else.

I was asked (though not by you) but it was more than a year ago. I'm not saying that you didn't ask anyone to help/become staff, but there are/were a lot of complainers, and offering a handful of them staff positions doesn't mean you get to act like "Want to help?" was a typical response to complaints.

He's more than decent, I was just saying that I've never seen him as staff. As he posted, he's really only been FAQ on G2k1. I see him as one of those players that are seldom wanting to be staff.

He's probably the best GK will ever get, so they should take him up on this offer.

they should unless they are stu oh wait nvm...

No @ FAQ's they will only be corrupt, and abuse their tag. They will... uhm, not help! They will be a hassle to uhh whoever deals with, no wait... hmm they are bad ok? Staff help man, Bjorns on like 5 min a week, newbies just log on then, k?

Down with "paying" players, up with laz--dedicated staff

FAQ's on GK could not abuse their tag because they won't need any event tools or staff powers to anwer questions.

Exactly, all they would need, literally, is a tag to stand out. Simple. Maybe(might not even need) have a head FAQ that can add tags. Though -that- could be abused, to my knowledge, Googi, Draxx and maybe Raven(gotta have a suck up in there) would be good FAQ's. Is this a personal opinion? Yes. Are there other good candidates? Yes.

Though the whole "kingdom leaders cant be staff" is lame for Draxx-_- exceptions please :asleep:

Just because you don't see me that often. Get online on other times and you find me. If I'm not online send me a forums pm. It's no excuse at all, there are ways to contact me and also other staffs even if they are offline.

Ravenblade1979 09-14-2007 04:40 PM

Ricky don't suck up. After what you did I am suprised your still around at all.

Again why do people need a tag to show that they are FAQ...heck I could go start a GK Guild called GK FAQ if you want a tag that badly.

@Bell: Actually a lot of the newer people do mass and ask for help. I usually help them out.

@Bjorn: It is hard to get a hold of you. Most people don't know to forum pm you and they usually come to me to find out if your on debug (which I usually don't see you on).

protozero 09-14-2007 05:31 PM

I think I would be able to be a FAQ, but would need a brain which could process "h3lp i need hlp!!1!! whre do i g2t a pickaxe? plz!1!!" To "Help! Where do I get a Pickaxe" and respond with the proper response a couple thousand times on a daily basis.

Not sure how many people would be able to do that... And to do it just to "help" people and GK's tumbling player count. I could see people not going on tag after a week from the costant PM's, I would to.

Why should I idle one there. I'm not like other ones who only idle there and never do something. If I have to do something I get on RC if not I stay off.

Visibility.

I was going to do this if the staff refused to make a FAQ team, but it's better that the staff make one that appears on the staff list for visibility purposes.

There's no reason that there would have to be a FAQ Chief or any other sort of "head FAQ".

Ravenblade1979 09-14-2007 08:24 PM

Yes I can agree Googi but its apparent they had problems last time so just go ahead and make the guild. Just have a rule that when online they should be on tag for at least an hour or so a day. That way people can get used to them being part of the FAQ. Besides if its player run maybe it would show initiative to the GK staff that they should add one.

The creation of an unofficial FAQ team should only take place if it's absolutely certain that there's not going to be an official one since the creation of an official one after the creation of an unofficial one will create conflict between the two unless every single unofficial FAQ is made an official one.

like googi said visibility. When I massed if you have an zone related questions on zone before I was a faq at best I got 1 maybe 2 replies in a week. If I go on my tag then I get a question within about 5 minutes. If they see staff they know that they will receive help and its easier to find then someone who might be at the bottom of the playerlist not that thats a problem on gk..

dNeonb 09-14-2007 10:33 PM

This "power abuse" thing you guys mentioned is a point actually. There was also something said that they wouldn't get powers or so. But when we talked about that it was mentioned to give RC to these people... as long as they don't abuse it. To stay on player for the time could turn into some problem.

No. FAQ don't need RC or any other powers so don't give it to them.

Agreed.

RC should be for "Staff" and "Graal Police" only. Us Dev's have RC access to Kingdoms Debug and thats fine in itself.

sage_scooby 09-15-2007 05:11 AM

GK RC for GP and workers only.

FAQ doesn't need RC on any server.

jaws908 09-15-2007 06:11 AM

1. Why should newbies schedule their time around you and you alone Bjorn? New players don't even know who you are. It's like writing a book, assume they know nothing and start from there-_-

2. No RC for FAQ's Simple. It's not needed in any way. Other than that, what can they abuse?

3. FAQ Tags for visibility is self explained, someone sees a person at the very top of their player list with (FAQ) in their name they think "duh uhm person with smart smart!!" and ask THEM for questions.

Also, I never said we "needed" a head FAQ or anything. It's not needed, not gonna argue that point.

dNeonb 09-15-2007 02:07 PM

All you guys say is they don't need it. But this is nothing you can agure with or try to change something.
Give a reason for why they wouldn't need it.

FAQ's won't need RC because they can do their job without an RC all they have to do is go on FAQ tag and wait for questions.
