Hosted Tab Requirements

I was talking to bell a few days ago, and since I don't see this mentioned in any threads, I think it would be good for everyone to know SOOOO...

Requirements for hosted tab is to have 2 full hours of something for the players to be entertaining themselves with. A PWA will log on your server and see how long they can play without getting any advice from any staff, events don't count, as well as anything that requires staff to tell you what to do/etc. If it lasts 2 hours and they're not bored out of there minds, they all play, talk it over, and you get hosted.

Personally I think that's fair, but I didn't think it was fair that no one knew this so they would go and make 200 random NPCs of no purpose and 20 events and get nowhere on there inspection because they didn't know, now you know, let's watch 14 playerworlds simultaneously apply because they have like 2x the requirements

Vima 08-27-2007 05:04 PM

Woah, Faded Nation have good chances of getting to the hosted tab :)
Just hope I can get someone to help me with the last scripts :[

Switch 08-27-2007 05:12 PM

Hmm... Graal Legacy should've passed then. Too bad Bell wasn't looking all that hard for the reason she couldn't get the mining stuff:
Money.

Actually, you can get money in this one place but u gotta slash forever to get it.

Horrified 08-27-2007 05:16 PM

:O

G'luck to both of you guys, I'll check out your servers when I get back from vacation :D

Thrashsoul3 08-27-2007 10:15 PM

Who cares? You should be happy there are playerworlds being made on graal.

Switch 08-27-2007 10:17 PM

Thrash that made no sense o.O

He obviously meant the topic as a whole...and is most likely complaining that the globals should be happy that there is even any content developed for graalonline for free at all.

But i think they're fair imo.

How hard is exploring...?

You just walk around on the map until you find something, do it, and then move on.

Maybe Bell was checking how long it took her to find something to do, and she was looking around for a good while and still found nothing, so she logged off or didn't pass you or whatever. Imo, they should be pretty noobie friendly (as in someone walks in, and they should be able to only take a few steps outside and talk to someone, or something like that and have something to do instantly.

Cloven 08-27-2007 11:42 PM

I pretty much agree with this mindset, although to some it may seem like a double-standard, considering that by and large Events and Useless NPCs are what keeps the majority of the playercount graal-wide around. Though there should be some reasonable way to distinguish whether or not said events/npcs are worthwhile enough to merit being hosted.

Events aren't always around, and useless NPCs are only fun now and then.

They look for what can be done in 1 player interaction, I believe.

There's a ... hmmm ... about 3x2, MAYBE, newbie area. You can do quests in it, and all you have to do is look in the different houses.

TalonShriner 08-28-2007 01:28 AM

They also look for things to be doing in the long run. For example: Having goals to buy expensive items, long quests that can be done over time.

Applying again for what?

By "We need more peeps" I meant more people to script and GFX and LAT.

*Looks around and points at self* ganis, levels and scripts is what i do.

Chompy 08-28-2007 03:35 PM

Crow, Sheepy and me do scripts on Esteria :p
Mostly Crow tho..

Tigairius 08-28-2007 06:33 PM

A lot of other things are taken in to consideration when going hosted:
Amount of playable content and the amount of CPU time that most of your NPCs take (Low = better chances)

Seems like you don't treat Chompy/zeo well!
I think my country-neighbour should help Faded Nation, where his work will be appreciated ;D

:p

and Switch, 'arch' means archetype, which is basicly a text file (.txt or .arc)
Simple example of one:
PHP Code:

archname=ironsword
name_singular
=Iron Sword
name_plural
=Iron Swords
type
=weapon
slot
=onehand
weapontype
=melee
icon
=chompy_mud_ironsword.png
value
=80

Ini files can also be used, but would maybe need for example Inverness' TIniFile

Well, the mud does all the controlling of objects and the player (ie. using items, storing them etc..)..

I wrote you guys an explanation ;o did you read it?

Well if you have 20 NPCs that are really well coded but take 20 minutes I doubt it matters...

20 minutes? x_x I doubt anyone would be willing to play any game what so ever if there was 20 minute cpu lag.

I must've said it wrong, I mean 20 minutes of gameplay with the npcs, heh.
