Server conceptualization: Cardboard Heroes

I dont own rent a server, I'm not developing this playerworld, nor do I have any current plans to. This thread is simply a collection of ideas and a chance for anyone to provide their ideas and input as well. The material presented here is not free for use.

After what seemed like an endless car ride, you have finally arrived in Booster Bay; your new home. What a nice little town! Moving in sure was easy. And look! You can see your new school from the bedroom window! They say the Arcana card game is all the rage there... Maybe this would be a good way to make some friends.
I guess it's time to get some sleep. The first day of school is tomorrow, and you sure don't want to be late!

Cardboard Heroes focuses around a card game called Arcana. It basically functions similarrly to Triple Triad from Final Fantasy 8. Each card will have a number on 4 sides which represents its strength. There can also be elemental strengths and weaknesses on cards.

The basic common cards are called Runic cards. These are commonly bought, traded and won. The "1st" in the top corner denotes 1st edition. All cards created on the server for the first week will have this mark on them, and never again.

Cards with a gold edge are called Mystic cards. These cards can be earned by beating harder npcs and completing quests.

The final type are called Archaics. These cards can only be obtained by beating "boss" type npcs and completing difficult quests. They can not be bought or traded

You can see the area isn't very large. The idea isn't to create a huge sprawling overworld.By keeping the area small, more attention can be focused on the places that matter, like the card playing algorithims and beautifying the area we have.

I don't know where I'm going with the follwing image. It's still a rough version. Hopefully this will be the way you can go thru and sort your cards. Pick which ones you want to play.

The idea i'm trying to achieve with this playerworld is to give every npc a personality and a name. Each one will have a unique look, a personality, their own card set and a playing style. I want players to hear a name like Fred Phink, or Blake Porter and know where and what kind of player he is. Cardboard Heroes should be a server you can log on to for a hour, play a few matches... maybe a quest, and log off.

Sorry I cant write more. I gotta go. feel free to leave your thoughts, ideas, flames.

sounds and looks great ;)

Reminds me of Monster Rancher Battle Cards for the Gameboy. Fun game!

UH OH! This is in development on Classic, sorta haha.

Cardboard heros?

On a more serious note, glad to see a server [concept] with such high presentation levels. Ace stuff there.

Sadly I got over card games when I was 12 and I'm sure a online version of it wouldn't interest me to much. Im sure thisll be cool for the playerbase that still enjoys pokemon and yugioh cards and etc.

coreys 06-14-2007 07:42 AM

Oh yes, I remember trying to get made to make a Triple Triad influenced card game on Babylon once.

I'm not afraid to admit that I'm not that great at scripting and I probably wouldn't have been able to do it, even if I wanted to lol
Cool idea, though, would be great if someone used it.

You must not know who haro is. The guy that pretty much made every graphic on Zenkou from the ground up?

Amazing Idea

Curt1zzle 06-14-2007 04:02 PM

"pretty much" every graphic.

And I think those graphics were just meant to be an example, I'm not sure taking a totem pole or whatever would matter in that case.

Did you see the words "pretty much"? Stop reading what you want to read.

haro41 06-15-2007 02:24 AM

yeah sorry about the pictures. actually all the images on the cards are taken from somewhere on google images. I just used them to show as an example.

WE NEED A ENGLISH TEACHER MANG.

xAndrewx 06-15-2007 08:48 AM

If we can't use any of this, why did you make them and futher-more why did you post about it?

Pimmeh 06-15-2007 09:08 AM

sigh...
Because he showed himself able to GFX real cards?

Is it not obvious? He wishes to share a concept with us and has kindly shown some examples to represent the concept. Inspiration makes everything better.

pretty much all = most

At least I've always used it that way.

But, yeah, it's just an example. And an awesome one, at that. ;o

haro41 06-15-2007 10:42 PM

maybe in the future someone could take it and use this stuff. Personally I don't care. I got too much going on right now to do it myself, but I wouldnt want to see ya know.. 13 year old gokusephiroth999 use it.

and Sorry to the people working over on graal classic, i had no idea you were working on the same type of system. I started this stuff in early april. We'll see what happens, maybe you guys could end up using this stuff.

as far as zenkou goes, my reason for leaving was that the project was simply too huge. After working on something for 2 years, ya know you pour your heart and soul into something. You step back and you realize how much you have left to do. zeon myself and the many others who worked on the project I'm sure would hate to see it go away. maybe this project that were talking about now and what we have on zenkou could be combined and create something successful. Who knows.

Looks and sounds great. :)

TalonShriner 06-17-2007 05:35 AM
