Way to disable PMs per-player

Just was the title says, I would like some kind flag on the serverside of the player object that indicates whether or not PMs are enabled. If they're disabled then the player would only be able to send PMs to staff. The reason for this is that I wish to implement an in-game way of communicating that doesn't allow players to blast things across mass-messages that shouldn't be told. There needs to be a feeling of isolation at certain times.

Its of no use to be able to jam enemy communications if they can open up the playerlist and send messages.

Seconded.

According to what I've heard, it probably won't happen because they feel the PM thing is what makes Graal, Graal. Or something along those lines, so shouldn't be possible to disable.

Sorry, but what makes Graal, Graal, has been ended for about 4 years now.

Don't tell me, I didn't make the decision. I think it's stupid myself.

It isn't so much the PM system that bothers me as is the system that lets you see what level another player is on. That is a horrible way to stymie staff from catching bug abusers, etc.

Custom profiles =D

Should be a way for staff to stay 'hidden', from players and such.

Sending of pms, mass pms and unlimited pms (no 1-minute limit) can be disabled with the next gserver update by setting a player flag

Can we get the level display via profiles and the playerlist toggled on a server option too?

Oh god, please, I just cant live with the F7 menu on Mythic. It will ruin all of our player communication ideas.

Stefan has saved the day once again. If shipping was free I would send you some cookies. :D

Wait, how did No-PM jail on 2K1 work?

DustyPorViva 05-29-2007 05:01 AM

I think it used to be a built-in thing, you'd put the jail levels in the server options or something like that.

Is it still possible to do?

DustyPorViva 05-29-2007 05:19 AM

No idea, I can't say I've seen it done recently.

I don't see why they would add the functionality and then intentionally remove it unless it somehow conflicted with something else.

Most definitely. The option is jaillevels.

zokemon 05-29-2007 06:30 AM

But most developers with these new generation servers don't want to put every level in jaillevels=.

Deadly_Killer 05-29-2007 06:31 AM

You can script something to get a list of a folder, but yeah, I think jaillevels ****s with level links or something.

Tyhm 05-29-2007 06:45 AM

Yeah, the jaillevels list blocks PMs. However, it also blocks warping, level links, baddyspawning, certain scripts like putnpc...

Although I must admit, the jaillevels PM blocking is an attractive option. "You can only F7-PM admins." Exactly the people who you'd need to contact when one little glitch destroys the scripted PM system...
