General Question (Plans for a Roleplaying World: Zamarrah)

Would people help to start a world from scratch for adult entertainment, which has nothing to do with porn or adult topics, but with mature roleplaying -

I will probaply need coders and gfxers, as it would be a lot of effort.

Aim:

-A roleplaying world, with background storys for everything
-Class system: Worker, Mage, Warrior
-Special Races: High Fantasy (Elve, Werewoolve, Vampire ...)
-Dungeons
-Unique Skill System
-Quests consist of new storylines and are made up by staffs with stafftools (you dont need rc for everything)
-You are forced to roleplay, if you dont roleplay, you are forced to leave the server
-Forging system for tools, several kinds of wood, metal and leather, and other crafting. Ores, woods and leather which are rare or common and determine durability and power of swords, bows, and armor. The skill of the smith, tanner, tailor or tinker determines, if he can use the raw material at all, and the chances for crafting success.

As you can see, the idea is that the world is a place for mature roleplay, without a world based on smashing things together and trading dungeons for usd-sellable weapons.

The scriptingeffort will be enormous, so I dont think the project will be realizeable - but feel free to contact me if you are interested. Maybe we can start it up.

--< Zamarrah >-- (beta concept, yet to be finished. take care of bad english)

Zamarrah is a Planet, quite similar to our.
The difference is, that because of the count of Suns and Moons, only one Side of the Planet has Day and Night, while the other side only has night, furthermore, the dark side of the planet is mainly inhabited by monsters and dangerous creatures.

1. Setting

The setting consists of the towns mageach and galeach, which both once were one town, the mythical chamballah - a second garten eden.

When the sin was introduced in chamballah, the town broke apart, and over the centuries, both halves drifted slowly away near the border to the dark side of the planet.

The setting is - that both towns are close to armageddon, as there would be no life possible in the dark side of the planet - as its not heaten up by the suns. Thats why both towns try to stop the drifting.

Legends say - that the drifting is caused by the tension between both towns - and can be stopped, or even reversed, if peace can be established between both towns. Sadly, both towns are political unstable, and the monarchs and regents fear a loss of power, if the towns would reunite. Other people try to establish peace, and a last group, even tries to annihilate mankind, with accelatering the drifting up again - which slowed down as both towns signed a no-attack treaty several hundred years ago. Yet, both towns are far from piece, and the treaty was broken several times - each time, both towns drifted further in the direction of the dark side.

2. the towns/islands

2.1. Mageach

Mageach is a town with a medieval european setting. The ground is fertile, and the climatic is mild. In opposite to this, there are hardly minerals in the earth, so that findind ores is hard, and has to take place deep in the underground.
Mageach is officially ruled by a king, but the real rulers are 5 barons, who only care for their power and try everything to stabilize the position of Mageach, as they fear a loss of power - in both cases: the reunion, and the end of the town.

As the king comes from a old family, that already held alot of influence in chamballah, he tries to reunite both islands.

2.2. Galeach

Galeach is a town with medieval oriental setting.
While Mageach is rich of rain and fertile ground, it hardly rains in Galeach, and the heat only allows few regions of the islands to grow food. Water is rare, and of value - water rather than gold indicated the wealth of a family, thats why most tribeleaders wear blue cloth.

Galeach is ruled by a council of tribe-leaders, while the island is inhabited by 5 tribes, who brotherly rule and take control over the regions.
Still, all people of Galeach envy Mageach for it's water and fertile grounds, and several attempts have been taken, to conquer Mageach to take control over these grounds.

In the sands of Galeach, miners can find alot of ores and other goods.
This value is yet absorbed by the need to constantly buy food and water at bad conditions, as Mageach and smaller islands try to take profit of the islands situation.

2.3. Smaller Islands

There are several other Islands, which are inhabited by the dwarves and the elves.
Most of these islands are neutral, and partly inhabited by humans, too. But a groupd of evil elves tries to incite a final war between Mageach and Galeach, to gain control over the whole habitable side of Zamarrah.

3. Racial Groups (yet to be written)

3.1 Vampires & Werewoolves

3.2 The Dwarves

3.3 The Elves & The Drow

3.4. The Darklanders

4. The crafting system

4.1. The arts of crafting:
4.1.1. The tamer&farmer
The farmers job is to grow plants, crop and everything needed to live.
Young players can start as helper of older farmers, and if they are skilled, they can buy their own farm and sell their own goods.
Furthermore, farmers know a bit of tailoring, tanning and alot of woodcutting and producing cloth out of wool and cotton.
According to his place of living, he can tame different animals, like sheep, horses, or other mounts like giant lizards.

4.1.2. The tinker
The tinker is an Important person:
Everyone needs tools to work, and he is the person to craft these tools. The better he is, the more often his tools can be used.
Furthermore he can use gold, silver and gems to produce jewels.

4.1.3. The blacksmith
The blacksmith is the most important person for warriors, as he can produce armor and weapons.
The higher he is skilled, the more kind of weapons and armor he can craft, and in more sorts of metal.
Grandmaster blacksmith can even make armor of the hardest and rarest metal.

4.1.4. The miner
The miner is an important source of raw material, as blacksmith and tinker need metal, and everyone who wants to build a house, needs stone.
As there are rare ores, the miner needs alot of experience to find them and especially, to be able to melt them to ingot.
Furthermore, with a bit of luck, they can find gems and diamonds which can be sold to the tinker.

4.1.5. The tailor&tanner
The tailor&tanner has a alot of jobs - as everyone needs cloth. Good tailors can produce good and special kind of clothes,
especially for richer players and players with experience.
Another important job for the tailor/tanner is to produce leather armor out of the different kinds of leather.
The better he is skilled, the more kinds of leather he can use.

4.1.6. The cook
The cooks job is to produce food out of the ressources grown by the farmer, which can be crop, potatoes, and so on.
Furthermore they can produce bacon and beef.
Later, cooks with experience will be able to produce wine, met and other drinks.

4.1.7. The bowyer and carpenter
The bowyers/carpenters job is to produce weapons and armor out of wood (which can be wooden training swords, shields or bows and crossbows), furthermore he has to produce plans out of logs, which are needed as raw material for housebuilding.
Good bowyers can produce powerful bows and crossbows out of rare kind of woods.

5. The arts of fighting
5.1. The mage
5.2. The archer
5.3. The warrior
5.4. The priest
5.5. The paladin

6. The raw materials
6.1. The ores
There are several kinds of ores:

tin
copper
bronce (composition)
manganium
molybdenum
iron
steel (composition with non-ferrous metals)
silver
gold
arkadium
endurium
azurite
rubinite
titanite

6.2. The kinds of leather
6.3. The kinds of cloth
6.4. The kinds of wood

Sounds very interesting. It seems that Developers want to work for a newly created playerworld rather than one that's been online for quite some time.

All playerworlds so far aim for kids.. who want to spar, solve simple quests and so on.
This is more or less a life and social simulation, which aims for rather mature people (15/16+).

All current [classic] playerworlds. It is only a matter of time before the tide of newer servers come in. Have you heard of the newer things being developed?

Nothing of interest for me, as iam usually playing mmorpg who are more based on roleplay. Why shouldnt that work as graal playerworlds too.

+ iam thinking of making this game d&d based, as its useable under the conditions of the Open Gaming License.

It should in theory, but social dynamics often limit the application of any otherwise sound idea. x_x

Iam thinking of reaching this aim like this:

Every account which logs on, is only an account online, no player.
You can then create up to 3 characters. If you want to play mage, or with another race than human, you have to applicate via email at first.

If you log in again, you can just choose your character and play.

This is practical for the prevention of unwanted disruptions in an RP setting, however, I would caution you to consider that presumptive exclusion tends to be rather uninviting to the general population.
I don't believe that your proposal is 'bad' so much as it lacks the positive aspects you plan to work on, specifically where drawing in your desired playerbase is concerned.

Well.. this is for people who can behave in a mature way.
So even if this prevents me from becoming hosted or public,
this is the right step for me, to guarantee good roleplay, or roleplay at all.
I think people who finally want a working roleplaying world in graal will appreciate this. And roleplaying is not hard, so everyone would be invited to try it.

Agreed.

I'm simply analyzing it more from a business perspective. I applaud anybody who stays true to their convictions. :)

No actually, both things that you are saying here are already being done.

I'm not calling you a noob nor saying you can't make this happen. I'm just saying that it isn't like you are the first one to try any of these ideas on Graal.

Pimmeh 05-25-2007 09:06 AM

I admire the idea but you have to keep in mind that there are mature players that can be really immature (coughsomeValikorliastaffcough) and that you'd need a really strict rule system for the staff members.

The idea for the staff is this:

The developers are allowed to play like normal people, but every use of a stafftool will be logged - and abuse will result in ban, independent of staff position and reasons.

When online, there will be another type of staff, the socalled seer, who whatches over the roleplay, starts quests, helps players and so on.

Pimmeh 05-25-2007 11:53 AM

Just like the Role Playing Administration team on Valikorlia?

Darklux 05-25-2007 11:59 AM

I never played valikorlia, but if you say so.. ;p

Pimmeh 05-25-2007 12:21 PM

Lol you should, it really gives an example for how it shouldn't be :p
But anyways. Could we get some screenshots or is the PW still in offline planning?

Because of the high chance to get no gfx or coders at all, its still in planning.

This is not orientated to graal playerworlds, rather to freeshards of games I can't name here. And it works perfectly over there.

Wait, you aren't advertising for a Graal playerworld? .

nope, it will be a graal playerworld, but it will rather be like an more rpg orientated mmorpg, as i prefer that system and would like to bring it to graal (more rpg, of course the system is intellectual property and ill use d and d instead)

xXziroXx 05-25-2007 10:00 PM

A male cross dresser is still a male.
A D&D Graal server is still a Graal server.

I commend you for wanting to make a server using the D&D ruleset but sadly, I have tried this before and it seems almost no one likes D&D on Graal. The closest I could come successful with would be a D&D hybrid. Just take some of the rules that best apply from D&D. You don't need them all :o

I rather ment to use the basic fight calculations as basic point for the games fighting and everything else systems :D

Yeah, I find the stats (Str, Dex, Con, Int, Wis, Cha) and their applications to HP and stuff to be the most useful part of D&D when applying it to a MMORPG.

Yeah sadly I think its not realizeable due lack of gfx and coders ;p

If anyone actually has a similar concept, we could merge :O (obviously graal people dont like rpg's too much? lol)

Graal people do like RPGs they just don't like to merge x_x

I love how you guys always want to make a very advanced and dynamic server when Graal barely has any decent simple servers. I think this is a little out of your league if you made this on Graal.

I think people who know me will know that i quite have some experience ;p sadly no project came to its finish for now (for example vs:c, god be clement to its soul).
