Update packages/downloads?

Is there a maximum file size set for downloads? Because, two of the songs on Mythic won't be downloaded with update packages nor normal downloads.. and it's a big problem for us, since we want the players to be able to download the music instead of streaming it from a host.

Skyld 05-11-2007 08:58 AM

There is a download limit of 1mb per file. I think that only the login servers and Graal3D can send larger files.

Admins 05-11-2007 09:27 AM

The limit can be raised, you must somehow prove that the music is public domain though.

Twinny 05-11-2007 09:51 AM

And if you composed it yourself?

If you could do that for us, it would be awesome! Oinkness have been composing music and other sounds for us lately, and it kind of sucks that players can't download it at the moment. And yeah, it's public domain.. I'll tell Oink to prove it for you.

I tried to show you music from Oinkness but you were to busy or something and never got back to me/him.

oinknessx 05-11-2007 10:34 PM

Yes, I made the music. It is public domain because I have not copyrighted it, and I have released it into the public. I think that's all it takes to become public domain...

Mythic Legends performance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBsaWoY9vqU

The above video is proof that I made the music for Mythic Legends.

The quality I've used for the songs in MP3 format is 192kbps CBR. So far I don't think I have really exceeded 3 minutes, but for songs like overworld themes, I am planning to make them much longer and more epic, so they could easily be 15mb for a single song at some point, or even bigger.

And yeah Stefan! Zokemon told you about me and I think he uploaded a bunch of my MIDI files onto the RC at GK. I was interested in forming or joining some kind of "Graal Music Team". :)

No, I just said you wanted to help out with GK ._.

DustyPorViva 05-12-2007 01:42 AM

Wow, 15mb for an mp3 is kind of... excessive...

I was sure you had said that you put them on there before... Oh well. They're still here if he wants to hear them. :) We talked about the idea before, a long time ago... releasing MIDI-packs for the playerworlds to use! It would be a ton of fun.

How big are the MP3s for GK?

Crow 05-12-2007 09:45 AM

Wow thats some nice stuff oinkness o.o

But hey, I think 15mb is really a little bit too much...Graal needs better .ogg support anyways :P

oinknessx 05-12-2007 11:01 PM

Thanks for the kind words, sir!

I wrote a 16-minute long track called "Chaos" that is 21mb in 192kbps CBR MP3 Quality. :p Even if it were only 128kbps, it would still be 17mb. I probably won't make songs that long for Mythic Legends, probably a max of 6 or 7 minutes for the overworld themes, for each one.

I can understand how you guys wouldn't like a 15mb size, since I myself am a dialup user.... but for a decent sound quality, 192kbps is really the best way to go while still being downloadable within a reasonable time limit. With 128kbps, you can hear some of those splashy watered-down sounds within the music.

Ziro said nobody has dialup anymore! Hahaa... :(

Ok will try to raise the limit for the server.
The problem with mp3s is that we just don't want playerworlds to use the server for sharing copyrighted files. We could still remove files when the copyright owner complains, but it is better to be clear with this.

oinknessx 05-14-2007 05:09 AM

Thank you very much, Stefan! How high did you raise it exactly? :)

zokemon 05-16-2007 09:12 AM

Do so on Gileada too please!
(Oinkness also works there)

oinknessx 05-16-2007 07:52 PM

I can't say for certain that I will be working with music on Gileada at this time so don't worry about it yet! I usually sign on to projects with potential that have the ability to become finished. As a freelance musician on Graal, I won't work with just ANY playerworld (unless I'm hired by Graal to do so at some point). Because I cherish every song I write and I always want them to be used. I hate the idea of having a database of unused music. :) And that's what could happen if I work on a playerworld that doesn't make it.

As far as I can tell of Gileada, it's in a developmental slump. There's only one guy with actual access to work on the playerworld and I haven't even been able to contact him in the last 2 weeks so it's all up in the air at the moment.

DustyPorViva 05-16-2007 08:09 PM

Music is so rare on Graal, and so many projects fail and your music may go along with it, I'd say maybe make this stuff free domain for any server to use. But I don't know the work or attachment that goes into making music.

oinknessx 05-16-2007 10:15 PM

I was interested in making some public domain stuff for Graal, but I wouldn't want to do it as a freelancer still, I'd like some kind of "Graal music" position where I could release more music packs in the future as well. x_x

Music IS rare on Graal but I'd like to help it not be anymore....

It's true a lot of projects fail and fall into obscurity, but if I was working for Graal and the stuff was public domain for all PWs to use, they could use it and it wouldn't go to waste. :D

I saw Stefan on GK a little bit ago, and asked to please discuss Oink music sometime, and he said he had seen my youtube video. Hehe! Hopefully we can discuss Graal music someday. :D

Oh, I didn't mean public domain as in any playerworld could use it... It's made just for Mythic Legends! And someday I'm hoping to put these songs on a CD, so people don't really have the right to change the songs in any way or really use them anywhere but Mythic. They're still my songs of course, but licensed for use on Mythic Legends. :p

By the way, you could log on and hear them methinks! :)
