Path generator

Eh, I figure I should post this here instead of the NPC section. I see a lot of complaining about how people use the path generator and how ugly it is. I couldn't agree more. So I fiddled around with the script and changed it. It doesn't use the ugly transition tiles anymore, and I removed the use of the large rock tiles in the dirt, and toned down the chance of the smaller rocks popping up. Of course the credit of the script doesn't go to me, as I assume Stefan made it. And I know it's been done before, but I searched and searched and couldn't find anything.
Anyways, to use it just save this script into your npcs folder in your Graal directory. It'll appear in the predefined NPCs section afterwards.

EDIT: perhaps I should actually show the outcome

oooor you could just not use a generator at all...generators=n00bs

DustyPorViva 03-21-2007 04:10 PM

Perhaps... but no doubt they will be used anyways. At least this one looks better if they choose to use it.

Generators were designed to save time when you need to do large quantities of levels. They just take some cleaning up afterwards.

Most likely like the level generator. You generate something, play with it until it looks ok and fix it up.

I dislike ANY type of generator, I prefer to do stuff by hand.

BUT, the old path generator was horrible, this version isn't too bad.

Generators are handy if you design them to suit your level style. You should still always go back and do some cleanup. If you're good at it, people won't even know you ever used one.

It's better than the default one, good job.

But they make the levels look ugly to begin with.

DustyPorViva 04-02-2007 03:48 AM

theHAWKER 04-02-2007 04:20 AM

i dont know xD, i put it in the one with the door and the light but it wont work :(

DustyPorViva 04-02-2007 04:24 AM

You have to put it in the folder, from graal's directory:
levels/npcs
You'll see a bunch of other text files in there.

Delete your FILENAMECACHE.txt - when you've put it in the correct directory...

Its a .txt file named "FILENAMECACHE" in your Graal folder. Just delete it and restart the editor.
