Help me with hair!
 

I'm drawing this picture and I want to get a really nice hair effect to match the image... it's gonna be like shiny blonde but I need to find a really nice way of doing a semi-detailed hair effect... like tons of hair strands with different shades of color and clarity... I wish I had an example of the kind of hair I want but it's basically like that uber detailed anime hair. (if you know what I'm talking about)

Also some critiques would be nice. Before anyone says anything, I don't plan to keep the dark black outline around the face or on the hair. =P

Its just like pixel art...but you get to use more colors.

Lighten / Darken tool if you're lazy. Layering / Alpha Blending if you're patient.

Yeah something like that... but does anyone have any idea how to go about this using photoshop? I mean... do you just sit there and draw thousands of lines or what? >_<

There's gotta be some shortcuts or a method of doing this...

lol... yeah but I mean... even a tutorial on it would be nice... should I start with a dark base and do light lines? Light base and draw the dark lines? Draw every color on a different layer? Use opacity for layers? I'd like to learn how to do this as easy as possible... Any tips at all would be helpful.

Well I finished it. I'm happy enough with it. I still have a lot to learn with photoshop... It's freaking hard for me to do anything with just a mouse... I wish I had a tablet PC. :p

I sort of rushed after a while because it is seriously way too tedious to sit there and draw lines of hair. But I like the end result anyway... Oh well.

Except, her chin is kind of abrupt :P

her face looks a little to "long" or something...but i really like the shading, and the outlines on everything except the face :D

Nose and mouth are a little bit too low. Otherwise its nice.

Only a couple of things..her body seems to disappear on the left side.
She looks a little blurry...or maybe it's because I just woke up.

Not bad, but you could have done that as vector art and achieved the same visuals... only with vector art you could resize it indefinitely, it'd be a smaller file, and you'd sleep better at night knowing you're almost as cool as I am. :cool:

He still would toss and turn for not being as cool as you are though, Stephen. ;)

Kind of similar to Christina Ricci's forehead. ;)

The camera angle is above and slightly angled down, which is why the mouth and nose seem lower.

I think it might need some kind of, even a very subtle, shading of the nose bridge. The huge blank area there is a little distracting.

really nice work dude, one really simple thing to change. Either the background or the inner aprt of the ribbon. They are very similer and seem as though they are the same thing.
