GK Expansion (5x5 map)

**VIEW THE MAP BEFORE YOU REPLY**

Rather simple in the roots of this suggestion. But all gmaps should be the same size anyways. Not to mention you can currently warp around the world in 3/4th the time it would to sail straight through. Not to mention more areas to actually do things with in the future would be nice. For the most part I would actually have to say that dungeons to these other maps should not really be installed just yet. However dungeons with level 30+ monsters Would be a nice addon as well. Round world could be done too, simply sailing far enough west means your on the eastern edge of the map. The same could be applied to sailing north and ending up on the south end of the map. (this would mean no icecaps)

List of effects this could have.

+ New areas for add-on and development to Graal Kingdoms
+ A more reasonable way to arrange the gmaps
+ Areas for more quests
+ Areas for more mosters, perhaps for level 20+
+ Areas for new events
* King of the hill between kingdoms
* Kingdom outposts (Like the original Nighthawk idea)
* Capture the flag between kingdoms
* Water arena map for boat battles
+ Larger overworld for possibility of larger ships
+ Sailing would be more rewarding
- Slightly longer ferries for some kingdoms
- Little more complex to find things
- More work to staff to do (Maybe a small dev team needed)
+ possibility to make a round world

Color Code (Can be rearranged if necessary)
Darkblue = Main.gmap
Darkred = Samurai.gmap
Brown = Dustari.gmap
Darkgreen = forest.gmap
darkgrey = pirates.gmap
teal = zormite.gmap

white,lightblue = outeredge maps for addon or other suggested island uses.
lightgrey = mostly water maps for ferries to pass through to kingdoms.

Did I forget anything???

Good idea, but I got the feeling that wont happen. Just look at Main Island. It looks like they just started to detail it, and you want even more islands? Also, they would get problems with the new monster GFX again I think. But overall I like this idea.

If you don't try to start a project like this, it will never get done. As you cannot finish what you do not start.

Now lets keep these negatives out of the thread please, it won't help anyone.

Hmm

Watch Bjorn turn this idea away because that's how he is. I recommend turning this idea over to Stefan and Unixmad himself because they at least get something done.
Oh, and btw, Dayaa. *hugs you* =)

I would like to help with such things too, but I got too much work atm :[

jonnyrocks2 02-18-2007 11:17 PM

I Stamp the Uri's Stamp of Approval to this...MAKE IT HAPPEN! :D

And I hope those spots between Forest and Zormite has empty land in there or colonization. :O

ReBorn_Spirit 02-18-2007 11:20 PM

This isn't an official idea yet, but you could have skirmishes and other minor battles to take over small islands on the other maps. Event event battles could be done.

Obs311 02-18-2007 11:20 PM

I like it...do it..

You seem to be suggesting that the reason these things don't exist is because there isn't any space for them.

But this already exists. It's only been used once or twice, but it exists.

I've suggested this before, it would be so much fun and active kingdoms could be rewarded. Perhaps there can be some kickbacks from taking control over land as well.

Kudos for the suggestion.

Yes, but even EMs probably can't use it. Stefan held a naval battle event there back in winter of 2005.

Kudos for the suggestion.

Perhaps rare resources, or mines that holds a certain set of minerals? :O

I smell nice little battles and half half controls of islands. :O

And islands for RP events, and exploration. ^_^

I BLOODY LOVE IT!!!

Please Bjorn? Stefan? We need this badly. :(

Wow, never noticed it before. :o

Thats the reason for atlest the core 3x3 area, the ability to expand outwards. We could eventually get the 5x5 grid and have some gmaps for boat battles and other kingdom battle islands. Even capture the flag or king of the hill style events.

Damix2 02-19-2007 12:59 AM

EMs can start the event, don't know why no one does.

Most don't. Not everyone got to see the event.

Believe its just west of bomboria, the river that runs norther directly to the events mountain... or at least that's what it used to be called I believe... Anyway, they held one there a few years ago too, maybe it was changed since then. :p

Anywho, good idea I guess for the far future. But the biggest problem is the system dude. A lot more things need to be changed before these ideas would even be developed. :/

ReBorn_Spirit 02-19-2007 03:25 PM

Wouldn't it be nice to have an entire gmap for a boat battle? Pirates and other kingdoms could train as an inter-kingdom event even.

And don't forget islands to explore. ;p

would be kinda cool, yes, and its not like its a ****load of work, just needs a few minutes to do boat battle maps.

ReBorn_Spirit 02-19-2007 04:01 PM

How big this idea actually is!

its rather easy to load the gmaps to see the actual size of GK's overall world. Main is a little bigger yes, but I do not think it would be to hard to fix this. The kingdom islands could use a few extra water tiles anyways.

Main.gmap is 40 x 40 levels
all other kingdom gmaps 32 x 32

A few water tiles around the edges wouldnt be so hard, its actually just down to the fact of saving a few levels into an expanded gmap.

**Number Crunching
Each kingdom is missing 576 levels around its current gmap
because.. 32 + 8 is adding up to 4 new water tiles on all 4 sides.
40x40 = 1600
32x32 = 1024
1600 - 1024 = 576
576 x 5 kingdom gmaps 2880
and then 5 gmap updates for those kingdoms would bring it up to 2885 files being added atleast

Then theres the completion of the 3x3 inner ring which would be another 3 gmaps.. if your counting thats 1600 level files each... 4800 levels

..K enough gibberish.. actual numbers

an actual 3x3 grid area would mean this to GK
5(32*32) = 5120 levels renamed
5((40*40)-(32*32)) -> 5(1600-1024) = 576
576 levels being added... to each kingdom...
5(1024+576) = 8000 levels being checked/updated
3(1600) additional levels being added
-> TOTAL 12,800

This might take some time, maybe we should have some patience...
In reality, its just tedious work to start fixing the minor bugs and other issues.

**footnote, 5x5 would take an additional 25,600 levels and 16 gmaps being added.

We can't really do a proper king of the hill and no map to do capture the flag yet although we could use items like envelops as flags.

Interesting yes, but still right now actually warping to the other side of main to get to another kingdom can be done in less then half the time it should take someone. Not to mention this is more so a future project. Also I do believe there is some sort of dos batch file that can rename the levels or something rather easily. A small program could be used even to rename.. erm.. thousands of files XD. Am somewhat looking into it, but not really.

I'd easily help, infact I'll even build a few islands if you like. I know how to use the gmap generator for GK maps, rather simple.
