Graal Online Gift Cards

Essentially a number which identifies a card in a database, the database entry defines the value of the card. Could be used to purchase upgrades, or items from the shop (if we still have one?).

Would be handy for inviting friends to Graal.

Devil 02-15-2007 12:50 AM

I like it!

Stephen 02-15-2007 12:52 AM

Rather than email the card number to them, you could just have it print out the number on screen and send the purchaser a copy in email. Then it's entirely their decision to distribute it.

Guess you could make a simple PHP script to overlay the number on a image :)

zell12 02-15-2007 12:53 AM

cool idea :p

Here's an example of the image, although it may not be very "graal themed" (cheesy pictures, bad colors, etc :p)

Personal Jesus 02-15-2007 01:26 AM

Fast, easy, simple, make it happen.

Devil 02-15-2007 01:32 AM

I really like this idea Stephen. Make a nice graphic!

Like in Tyhm's threads a while back on 'How to save Graal' I said..

With a surge in potential players writing out their Christmas lists, planning what great gifts they would like this year for their parents/grandparents to buy, a good start would be to implant the idea of a Graal subscription making a wonderful gift. Friends and relatives giving gifts are more interested in being able to physically give that gift and then see the reactions, you can't really have that satisfaction if there is no physical aspect to it as it is not at all fulfilling. Psychologically speaking, it is more satisfying for both parties to see the tangible gift. This "physical gift" psychology could be easily achieved simply by introducing subscription gift cards. The idea is pretty simple and could be useful for more than just for Christmas, as I personally have wanted to pay for an account for someone who could not afford it, but have not been able to do it legally..

So yeah, I agree completely!

killerogue 02-15-2007 01:35 AM

Sounds like an excellent idea man. :D Go with it!

Ibonic 02-15-2007 01:40 AM

Although I'm not trying to take credit for the idea, I suggested it years ago. And I'd definitely like to see it implemented.

It should also help cut down on people upgrading accounts for other people and then 'stealing' them. That's probably the main reason I thought of it, from having to deal with those situations.

I didn't want to play favorites, so I used her in the example.

Infernix 02-15-2007 02:07 AM

You all would seriously buy a gift card in order to coax someone into playing graal? I managed to do it back in the day buy just saying "go get it I play it." But they all usually just quit in 2 weeks.

Don't forget the possible uses in contests and such.

Same happened to me, some people I showed got hooked like a crack addict, and others just laughed and played for 2 weeks, got bored and deleted it.

Demisis_P2P 02-15-2007 02:40 AM

I would never try to convince anybody to play Graal. I'm just not that cruel.

Devil 02-15-2007 02:48 AM

This was when Graal was good, 5+ ago.

Tyhm 02-15-2007 04:14 AM

I approve of this concept.

Hey kid, I'll give you a graal subscription if you get into my van.

Infernix 02-15-2007 06:35 AM

Have they not already given out prizes for contest? Why not just give them a damn account.

Well, instead of giving them a new account, they would be alloted gold/vip playing time.

Tyhm 02-15-2007 09:52 AM

And this would supply a simple mechanic so to do.

Kirble 02-15-2007 04:19 PM

Nice idea. People could be handing out free gold time to their "bff's" in no time.
Ahh, the confusions of internet relationships. :oo:

Gambet 02-15-2007 07:58 PM

Sounds like a great idea.

Bell 02-16-2007 02:44 AM

A great idea and a definite problem solver in more ways than one.

1) Not supposed to upgrade other peoples' accounts (I'm lookin' at you Angel!)
2) Can't revoke it this way (cancelling the account/changing the password since I'm the one that upgraded it, nyeah!)
3) Can offer a smaller increment (For when you want to say "Thanks", but only $5 worth)...

Darlene159 02-16-2007 03:09 PM

Good idea, especially for people who want to upgrade other peoples accounts. This is a much safer way to do it.

excaliber7388 02-18-2007 12:14 AM

I like

Mafukie 02-18-2007 07:03 PM

I'm sorry but I came up with the gift card idea! even before restaurants and other video games used them! *cough*

Its a solid idea, but its really not worth going through the trouble if it isn't going to be in actual stores. If the problem is people upgrading other peoples accounts then just use a LiveJournal type system where other people can upgrade someones account as a gift.

Like, http://graalonline.com/members/viewp...ccname=Mafukie
would show the profile and if they have vip, gold, whatever and if they can get an upgrade or something have a link on the profile page like "Upgrade their account as a gift!" or something silly

and when they go through the process have the ability to say who its coming from or if you want it anonymous, and they can add a comment too if they choose. After they pay the payer gets an email saying it was sucessfully done and the receiver gets an email saying You were upgraded or whatever with the information name/comment what type of upgrade ect.
