Increased Global Activity?

I've noticed globals on at least 4 or more on more than once a day. Since the little uprising the forums had and in the past few days. :O More activity is a good thing? Right? And we also have a new PWA who's on almost everyday which makes for quicker answered to Playerworld issues. :O Life's getting better on Graal I'd say. :D

coreys 02-10-2007 02:00 AM

Too bad I quit, then.

Inverness 02-10-2007 02:01 AM

Uprising?

I quit Graal altogether. Or rather I was forced to.

Surely after how long you've worked with me you know that I certainly don't consider that a cause for uprising. ;)

Sadly, it was because you did not succumb to fate and become my Graal Developer Slave. :( Your fault.

To bad none of the servers provide solid gameplay.

Irrelevant but accurate.

Inverness 02-11-2007 12:47 AM

What do you consider solid gameplay then? Please enlighten me.

Draenin 02-11-2007 12:50 AM

Something more than "You have a sword, go kill."

Tom 02-11-2007 01:11 AM

Inf is dead on, only a fool would even try and disagree with that fact. :D

Devil 02-11-2007 01:27 AM

So they read the forums? Is this what you're getting at?

Elk 02-11-2007 02:36 AM

Devil 02-11-2007 02:51 AM

Yeah I only see graphics artists saying that, sounds silly and just a cry for more useless global positions.

Something like
"Go to the castle.
Escort the gnomes.
Defeat the invading lizardons. (Horrible idea btw, starting with the meanest enemies on Graal...if I were to redo Classic from scratch, it'd start with enemy soldiers).
Return to the castle.
Go to Babord.
Find the barrel.
Buy the fishing rod.
Go to Avalon.
Fish out the conch shell.
Disable the earthquake machine..."

You know, quests. Quests can themselves be primarily "ZOMG A WAVE OF BADDIES!" for the most part, provided they Have baddies and there's some end to defeating them (even if it's just Hey look, a door opened). If you have a Quest, you can have puzzles, bosses, mazes, key-hunts, secret rooms...a game, in other words.
For the most part we just have expanded PK Arenas now.

That makes me remember the pyramid quest.

Oh, the evil pyramid quest.

Draenin 02-11-2007 07:09 AM

The pyramid quest was a pretty good example of a well thought-out quest. Same goes for the christmas quest that was done a year ago on Kingdoms, as well as a select few on Zodiac.

There are only a few on Zodiac to start out with :p

Anyways, a server that actually had really good quests in my mind was Shaded Legends. In fact they even had a nice storyline to go along with it as well.

And putting in 50 baddies that you have to kill in order to open a door is not good quest content...it's just annoying D:

Sometimes that's what a quest needs, though. The only thing is, it shouldn't be like that with every quest.

Why thank you!
I was rather proud of it, despite the many (MANY) problems I had with those bloody push-pull blocks...literally, every version I had to rescript 'em from scratch because they walled...
Never did get the rest of Classic on the same Continuity though. That woulda been sweet if I coulda - had an actual Plot to a server for a change, instead of "You help these gnomes, fight these dudes, get this stuff, theeeen ZEROMUS ATTAX YOU!1!"...find a way that "Getting this mace puts you one step closer to finding Azazel" and so forth.

It doesn't all need to be connected to the main plot. The mace was just cool to have, so it made a good side-quest; same goes for the Knife of Judgment. And things like the lode glove, although not connected to the plot, were necessary to get stronger and continue with the plot.

Classic had the best quests ever IMO. And now that they have that stargate type thing there is so much potential for quests there.

Tyhm 02-12-2007 03:41 AM

The lode glove! I'd completely forgotten...that could be really impressive with the new system NPC, since they have to custom-do all the drops (from what I can tell) anyway...
I saw their stargate once. It's awesome, but too out-of-the-way; something that central should probably be centrally located, under the castle or whatnot. But that'd require the castle work, generally. :-P

Classic's generally moving in a positive direction - the quests can be augmented without being overhauled, add some standard baddies and explanation to the Castle Quest and you got a great start - the newbie is given a key, goes to a cave, gets a lamp, goes to the castle, fights some Gray Armors, solves some puzzles...that's what Graal's all about.
