Idea for DUAL WEILDING swords or daggers
Simple idea, The ability to DUAL WEILD UNPREPARED swords or daggers.
Just to give a cool look to the game. Possible to put the sheild on the back or maybe not have the ability to have a shield while you are dual weilding. The way I figure it, you could already right click menu certain items like hat and robe so why not maybe change the shield slot to SWORD or SHIELD. That would be so awesome! (dual prepared weapons would overpower things) |
Or the offhand weapon would only add 50 or 25% of it's damage.
So the mainhand dagger has 100 damage and the offhand dagger has 100 damage but your total dmg would only be 150 or 125. |
Fantastic idea! Nullify a bit of the power of each weapon to prevent it from being used!
That is exactly what I don't want to see happen though is someone dual weilding prepared weapons or it being overpowered. Maybe even a new scroll to add it as an ability for all classes. A non-class restricted ability but must be learned after melee weapons kind of thing. I think at most this requires only a new script and new gani, all of the swords and items are already made with images right? |
uh...bad idea in my opinion
two broadswords? two morningstars? two maces? some weapons are too hard to get or not avaiable enough or too strong on their own, let alone wielding two. sure its a good idea at first, but what about that new people that dont have two decent weapons? or that prepped their few weapons? dual wielding would be a neat extra, but its not exactly a revolution for gk. EDIT: in the end, its just another way to set the older players and the newer players further apart |
Well you misunderstand, I meant that preparing a weapon or dual weilding would be "either or", not both. For example if you have two inferno swords, wonderful, they just can't be both prepared and held at the same time.
So my idea entails no maces, axes, or morningstars to boot. Specifically swords and daggers. What is wrong with dual broads? They are already not two handed weapons, they just have a large image. Weilding two prepared weapons would be way too overpowered. Draxx was telling me how this should be a starting skill for thieves, they don't have enough skills and they don't have enough cool stuff to make anyone really want to pick them. Dual weilding could be the reason right? How would this set beginners and oldbies further apart? The skill would be something cool to find later on, something to strive for when you see another player with one. They revamped magic with a huge overhaul so a script and a new gani should not really be that much trouble. Think like a newbie, You see someone walk by and they have a pair of flaming swords. The first thing you think is "Man! That's what I wanna do!" So your points are valid but I think this would only bring that gap closer. The name of the game is items anyways why not give beginners an edge with two swords!? So awesome! You could have any combo you wanted, Ice Flaming sword in one hand and Thunder Sword in the other. In a game with no tree-specific skill sets and class-only restrictions, I am actually astonished that this hasn't come up yet. PS: You actually made me think about how the gani should be fixed for weapons like the broadsword and actually make it held in reverse or over the shoulder like a two-handed weapon should be. It swings like a regular sword, and just as fast. |

I thought the magic system implement was fantastic, especially since with just a click you could switch to the old manual target system.
Magic is always powerful, but since you could build up any skill tree you could make your character a badass mofo at around level 20-30. What I think is the most common misconception with Graal Kingdoms is the class restrictions. There are none. You could build up any tree and build up any skill and have as much magic as you want. Automatically people will say "No, that's not true, you can't have any skill and you can't have whatever you want." Look at me probably one of the protaganist players on Kingdoms and I have never past level fifty. Morgan played for two weeks and got to level 65. Another player Used scrolls to up his mental and used alchemy to level himself up to 110 in two days. My other character leveled his wisdom tree from 1/0 to 18 in the span of three hours with Balor. The truth is you can level up any skill and up any tree and up any type of magic that you want to. I really don't want a good idea like this to be avoided because it seems like it will be hard. Half of the players don't even know what the personality tree is for, the other half of the players don't even know how to use the mountaineer skill. I know I know, it sounds like a complaint but for those that look for it can see a game that really shines. A lot of things go VERY unused that should be more active (player houses having stoves and multiple floors etc). If you disable particle effects and use the old system you have it back to the old way while not sacrificing the new. I have to say that was a genius move on stefans/bjorns part (i dont know who actually wrote it) making the magic system have both but I don't see why the sword system implementation should be any worse. In fact I think it would be a lot of fun. I certainly guarantee you will see a lot of arena activity. The magic system is a perfect example of taking an old script, turning it around and making it freakin' awesome. If an Ice Flame sword is going to just sit around in a chest in someones house then it is useless. In fact that kind of sets up another bowling pin, The resistance menu items. If I could use fear and blinding damage and you have a resist to blinding but not fear then I could take/give fear damage. It would most certainly give me an excuse to wear my Ring of Thunder or Ring of Fire in the arena rather than the over-used Ring of Theives that everyone has. |
This sounds like a pretty good idea. looks like you summed it all up
|
You've really thought this through, haven't you!
I always thought dual weilding is what kingdoms should have. Also, I think that it would have to slow down the attack for daggers. Although I know some of the staff are to Busy and probably wouldn't get round to it, I gani for a server so I could have a stab at doing those ganis. EDIT: LOL have a stab XD Stab? Daggers? Hehehe....anyone? aww.... |
Will the dual weilding be S is attack with normal weapon and D for the other weapon or is S for both weapons and D is blocking with the weapons?
|
Unless you're swinging both at the same time, what would be the point? Holding a sword in your offhand isn't going to magically add damage to the one in your main hand just because you're holding it there. It'd just let you switch between weapons slightly faster than hitting a hotkey and waiting for the animation to play.
Graal 2002 had dual wielding back in the beginning, but you could still only swing one sword at a time. |
It would be cool if when you pressed the guard key you held the swords in an "X" to guard.
Crossed flaming swords. Damn. |

you could also make it when you hold and press the left direction. it swings with left sword. and when holding s and pressing right direction. it swings the right sword. back could be a spin attack lol don't know how hard all this would be to do though |
The images already exist for all of the weapons and mud images right? Well all you would need is a good gani and a decent script to execute it.

Did 2002 have a blocking image? |

This Dual wielding also brings up the idea of two handed weapons, meaning the inability to use a shield with it. |
I absolutely agree with you. The unprepared thing is just for an edge. I would not mind whatever dual weilding comes about but someone mentioned online that having dual prepared weapons would be ghastly expensive and would turn the tides of a dual in an instant.
Even with the armor class loss of having no shield and two weapons in hand prepared weapons would overpower a lot of players and make them impossible if not indestructible with two prepared weapons and would further the gameplay out of balance. The goal is not to make a player more powerful or more advanced, just to give an overall choice of damage OR armor class. I also think that there really SHOULD be two handed weaponry. Some weapons like Waraxe are already so heavy and do so much damage that having a free hand for a shield is almost rediculous. Honestly I think that even the rare item Warhammers should be two-handed. Someone brought up the broadsword, it is such a large instrument of destruction for it's weight, it really SHOULD be two-handed. The weapon system is one of the last things that needs to be brought up-to-date with the already flourished technology of the game. We have a handfull gani's with over fourty-five different weapon types. (axe, sword, morningstar, spear, bow, crossbow, dagger, and hook) Dual-weilding is just the beginning. I expect a following of all kinds of item variety. Halberds, beheaders, kodachis, tonfa, bo, and whips. -And what the hell, while we're at it why not make use of the mud images of monsters and put that net and script to use for people with high personality traits. There is already so much diversity in weapons, crafting, and creating; why not have the option to have diversity in styles of fighting altogether? |
Ok, the first issue to deal with if this "idea" does come about. The Gani file for dual wielding, and then the scripting options to actaully make the GUI work properly. Would the user be able to simply click on another weapon to bring it up to that offhand? Or would you right click and and a little menu comes up that says "Examine" "Dual Wield"? Or would you actually have to drag it up to where the shield belongs?

Do people just ignore the suggestions forum?

I'm sorry, just that it is time for revolution. I didn't post it there because I wanted to make sure that everyone saw this post.
That aside, Yes I imagine that you would right click the shield area and a menu would pop up just like the cape and hat. Maybe just change the slot right before you equip the next weapon. There might be an issue with trying to bind dual swords, or maybe it automatically switches the offhand weapon first, who knows. I wish I could script really well so that I could do it myself and then just give it on over to Stefan or Bjorn. Same deal with the gani. |
Could add a second weapon as a BLOCKING weapon... >>
|
I only like the idea of new weapon types like for example Halberds
|
But then we'd need a good two-hand gani
|
ganiing isnt that hard, people just dont work =(
|
Gani-ing is easy.

I have tried dual wielding and with an image template that has as few angles as the one on GK has (Maloria had this same problem), your attacks will look very....how should I say...'similar' to the last. Let's just say that once you start dual wielding, you need more of a "3d" look to your weapons.
|
I think I might try to make my first gani using the already provided templates. I really like the idea of halberdiers, and whip users. It makes more sense to have whips for people who want to up their personality attribute IMHO. Dual Weilding is very important to the community, but I am a weapons fanatic. I wish it could be like seven thousand different weapons and all of the weapon types in existance. (except for modern weaponry of course after all we have zone)
I mean the battle axe has to be one of the coolest looking weapons in kingdoms but it swings funky so I am never tempted to use it. Stone axe is cool and the flails are REALLY cool. Just needs a little fine tuning and that was what this post was all about. I see Kingdoms going the way of classic and becoming a lifeless server. I really really really don't want that to happen. I don't want to switch online games for something free now and I don't want to give up on graal kingdoms just yet. |
