This quote inspired my idea =P

Anyways don't get me started on that. My friends are probably sick of repairing my houses, and am I hell going to buy 5 accounts to store my stuff.

He does make a pretty good point there. I know plenty of people who won't play gk anymore just because they lost all there items. Maybe we could combine the bank and tent idea... except in this bank you won't be able to put any items in it. it is just there to catch all your items when your house falls.

example: I go on vacation for a couple months. When i return my houses have fallen... hey wait I still have all my items because they have been stored in the bank. If the item stays in there too long (a year maybe?) it sends you a warning in your e-mail a couple days before deletion?

MasterNuke 01-18-2007 06:34 AM

I don't think you know just how many items some people have in their house(s) :)

ViperZakuto 01-18-2007 06:41 AM

yes i sure do... I shared houses with Draxx =D
there should be a way to get your items if your house falls.
maybe just take the chests and put them in a bank.
Carpet and furniture is easily replacable.
Not too many rare items are left out of chests.

ReBorn_Spirit 01-18-2007 08:02 AM

Interesting but complicated. There are either too many items in houses, or a backlog of extras that still would have to be purged from the "bank" system. Keeping houses and things on graal does take file room on their servers. I do believe that was one of the reasons they have them decay in the first place.

Perhaps someway to retrieve them items up a limited time after the house falls, perhaps something like 6 months before they are completely lost. But to do so is the tricky part. Perhaps instead when your house does fall, you could turn the Key into an NPC and it would warp you to that house level one last time to reclaim your items before the house is completely lost. Or maybe instead a random level generated for your items to sit in a bit chest that you get warped to after you turn in the key. Still not so sure how that would work, considering most items are locked in chests in player houses.
Or there's the alternative, of just dumping all the items into your inventory, atleast then the items in the chest wouldn't conflict with containers.

theunknown 01-18-2007 08:05 AM

Hmm

The only thing I can really say is that a staff member could warp to your houselevel if you remember the number. It should still be in their files. If it isn't, then the bank idea would work if Staff were up for making complicated scripts.

I know the script won't be fun, but the key to each player is supposed to hold some sort of player house ID to unlock the corresponding door to begin with. Therefore you would think that the key would be the link to the reclaimation of one's items. This could also be used to remove all other keys to that house as well, and even mark the level to be removed after a few days. In the event of some odd server annomoly, you could ask a staff member to check your house for things you left, forgot, or we're unable to pick-up.

Exactly, but remember how some GK Staff are. They like to halt on projects as you have noticed before. if they did do this project, it would take probably over a year.

Yes but we should not blame only them, we have as much to do with keeping GK going as they do. Even if some do not think about it, talk to your kingdom leader about adding something you think would be neat. Give out ideas and atleast someone will hear it.

I still prefer the tent Idea, more fun :p but also, this idea is pretty good, how about it takes all the items you have in containers but the containers go? All items outside of containers also vanish as normal (furniture etc)

I would agree but it would be a problem still and some people don't actually use contains in storage houses.

what if...after your house 'falls' you could go to said bank, and there's a door (item recovery door?). you can enter it with your houses key, and it takes you to the level inside your house. just a thought, it doesnt seem as hard a script.

yeah they could just disable dropping items in the house. you would still keep the key, and be able to make multiple trips(incase you can't carry it all.) Maybe after six months it disappears.

Well they should, or they'd lose everything ^_^ it'd MAKE people use containers.

The universe is a cruel place, things are always getting lost. I do not see much reason why you should be able to go in there indefinately for 6 months after your house is lost, that seems like incentive to not build a new one or to not repair it.

I may not be staff here, but I might think it would be more reasonable for just only one trip and the key is lost after you actaully walk out the level. This way you can stay in there as long as you want (incase you get disconnected) and then you can grab things. But to keep you from just going inactive in there once you lose your gold time, only keep the level for about oh, a month or so before it is removed from the server (if this actually happens that is).

Hey I used to play an online game where you had to pay rent for inventory space at the bank. If you didn't pay it on time it would decrease your money inside of the bank. Each time also that you put in and take out items there would be a charge for it.

Maybe something should be implemented along those lines. Other than shops and storage houses can get frustrating. Especially since you have to gather materials from a few different walks to repair it. If you are at one percent and have no parts in your house you may be out of luck because by the time you repair it, it would have already fallen. A bank you could store all kinds of stuff including money.

I imagine that if you could automatically grab the first item of food in your inventory and eat it when your GREEN BAR reaches zero then a bank is just a one-stop fix.

However that does create the trouble of island use. The islands should be restricted to have banks on them (and not on main) and you should have to be part of a kingdom (that kingdom) to use it. Otherwise you just have mountains of people crowding the bank all the time and all of the work that the kings/queens do island-wise would be for naught.

The main reason people already crowd bomboria is for the centralization of crafting and the tradehouse.

(i guess i was unclear but...)

I really like the idea of a place to hold your items. I have so many!!

What happens if you go on vacation for 4 months? You should be punished for this, by losing all your items. I know some people have enough friends to keep their house up... but most people don't. your idea defeats the whole purpose of my idea.

Say i go on vacation for 4 months. come back to find out all my items are gone. I only have a couple weeks or months left of gold. I'm not gonna reupgrade to nothing, just so i can work to get my items that i worked four years to get. x.x

What would be the reason for keeping it up for only a month and 1 trip. that would keep the current players happy. but if you did it the way i suggested you will have multiple people coming back because they didn't lose all there items in a house fall.
