Event Monsters

Maroku's events are very popular. Whenever he holds them in the Event House Dungeon I get flooded by requests from Zormites (Yes, we now have members, big surprise, huh?) to plead with Maroku for monsters on the Kingdom Island.

He declines, saying his monster spawns are for 'everyone'. Alright. I ask Bjorn and Sam long in the past, they say either talk to Maroku, or put in the prior effort to create/summon/charm the monsters myself.

Problems being its impracticable and recently impossible to remove the higher level monsters from the maps. So that won't work very well.

I suggest a type of archetype staff which allows kingdom leaders wielding it to summon monsters similar to Maroku's events. The individual staff types will be one for each kingdom. Such a weapon will allow for the development of RP's, and the fix for the "mass battle" desire of various kingdom members.

Scripts already exist to create monsters that drop no treasure, and give no exp. It's what happens when monsters become charmed. It's also true of summoned pets. Shouldn't be too hard to have these monsters automatically have those scripts.

These monsters will niether follow or attack the summoner. The summoner is invisibile.

In order to prevent other abuses, I propose the kingdom-specififc tag used on the doors of castles be combined with the monster's 'who to attack' script to gear them to only attack members of the kingdom they have been summoned for.

This will allow for kingdom leaders to set up the 'monster bashes' in their own backyard for their kingdom to get together and have fun. It wouldn't be unbalancing in a positive way (no drops, no exp, cannot be used to defend against outside kingdom members, or make guard quest npc spawn areas hazardous). All they will be are hazardous to are the members of the kingdom who's leader spawned them. Not having monsters purposely kill all your members into oblivion would be a small task in responsibility and ration for the kingdom leaders who are any good.

(by monster, I do mean bomies, all map monsters, and even exp-less lords. Things such as elves would of course... not be part of this deal.)

P.S. Debug can be used to test new monsters for glitches, this add-on can be used to test the new monsters against the server as a whole before actually adding them to the game.

EDIT: This is intended to be a temporary improvement until something else better is figured out and implemented. This isn't supposed to be permanent, just something to let kingdom leaders help set up fighting events involving monsters for their kingdoms for right now.

This will be abused the same way as the pillory was abused. If you want to host an event for your kingdom with a few monsters ask some EM for help. That's my suggestion.

Drakeero 12-31-2006 06:31 PM

Pillory? Oh, you mean like adding a person to the nation then pillorying to them?

That is a legitimate problem that I had not thought of. However this doesn't make the idea lousy.

Adding people into nations against their will is a problem in general, not just with just idea. The solution to that, is when a person is added, prompt a message on their screen saying "<account name> wishes to add you to the kingdom of <kingdom name here>. Do you Accept? Deny?" If the person denies, an add attempt can't be made for 24 hours for that account.

Not only will this fix the abuse in general, but will also prevent the abuse from becoming a problem with any later suggestions as well.

alarid0 12-31-2006 06:39 PM

I like it....
Asking Events Team for help could work too
But this suggestion would make the kingdom leaders into their own events masters within the confines of their own kingdom (I'm assuming the staves only work on the islands of the corresponding kingdoms?) which I think is a much better idea. Events Team can't always be around to help at all the role playing that the kingdom members want to participate in.
All this roleplaying stuff shouldn't nessesarily have to be a big huge thouroughly planned event every time... so you can't always tell the events "I need you on at x time please"
The solution to that would be adding more events team....
but this suggestion takes care of that :)

Drakeero 12-31-2006 06:45 PM

Free up the official ET team to better work on their own events. Let the kingdom leaders keep their members happy with the 'trivial' events.

Admiral Uri muchly desires to fight demons. It his part of his RP, he is a huge Inuyasha fan and it means a lot to him. So why not take some far corner of the island, spawn 30-40 demons, then let him run in, get killed ten times, and then make it a kingdom team effort to finally get rid of them. It enhances the gameplay for Uri, and it provides afternoon stress relief for the other kingdom members, and no 'unbalancing' takes place.

If a quest npc accidentaly spawns right in the middle of the demons, King John, or Googi, or anyone else can just walk in, and walk out without getting attacked.

cwc money 12-31-2006 07:00 PM

I agree with Drakeero. This is a great idea, and Bjorn... it wouldnt and cant be abused like the pillory, because as Drakeero said, only the king or queen could posses this wand of the sort. I think the kings or queen could be trusted enough. I, myself as a princess, and about to do quite alot of kingdom events for Forest, would think that Royalty could get it, but i dont think that should be implemented. As i trust myself, but not quite so much the others of kingdom royalty is some kingdoms. Drakeero, this is a wonderful idea. Bjorn i think this could work, and help out alot on Kingdom's roleplaying and activity, don't you agree? i like this idea, this could just work.

i didn't really have an opinion on this until that post. he has a point, and it'll make gk abit more fun for everyone. i now say this is a great idea, there's not much wrong with it, if anything. :D

schnukelmaus 12-31-2006 07:50 PM

I like it, that is a very good idea!! It makes a lot of sense. Besides, it will take a work load off of requests and such for EM's. I know I have asked Ravenblade to help host kingdom events as well. Kingdom events help promote morale and it will make kingdom members stick with their particular kingdom since being in a kingdom seems to be a popularity contest anyways.

Wolfey 12-31-2006 08:08 PM

I agree With the Event Monsters Idea.
It will make Kingdoms More Unique and give the Diffrent Kingdom Leaders More Power and Duristriction with in there kingdom with out worring about a EM having to be on through out the whole thing which free's up the EM's Time to Host Events's or come up with Better Event's to be hosted in the Future and keep the people on Both sides Happy.

I support this idea. You've got some good points and it will make a great diffrance.

Ravenblade1979 01-01-2007 12:16 AM

As good as it is. YOu have to remember that it takes a lot to earn this right and being kingdom leader shouldn't give u automatic right to summoning monsters. I am afraid that you might abuse it and screw us event masters only. I have worked long to get it and don't intend to lose it.

Yet at the same time it would be cool then you could hold big events on ur respective kingdom. But what about us events masters after that? will we be obsolete?

Drakeero 01-01-2007 12:27 AM

As NUMEROUS people have pointed out before. This will FREE you from routine events, and allow you to work on better events for the playerbase as a whole.

I'm NOT asking for the rights to give away powerful items. NOT asking for the rights to the mini-games on Event Island. NOT asking for the right to summon event coins. Those are all still things that only true Event staff can do.

I'm asking for rights for the kingdom leaders to summon monsters on their own respective islands (balanced to only attack members of that kingdom to prevent the obvious abuses). If nothing else we still wouldn't be summoning 100% 'live' monsters like the EM team wherever we want. The system is self-balancing. What other kinds of abuse are there that can't be handled?

What about killing all your members with monsters? How would that be different from any other position abuse that runs the kingdom into the ground? Putting anyone in charge of officially recognized kingdoms rights and abilities programmed into the game creates the possibility for misuse, but its still done.

If the wand idea isn't too hard to stomach. Then just make the kingdom leaders limited EM in their own rights. As long as the monsters they can summoned are altered in the way I specified, the type and degree of possible abuses is very much limited, if not removed.

Googi 01-01-2007 12:33 AM

Just upgrade the summon pet monster and/or activate the summon cult monsters spell so that we can summon map monsters if our magic level is high enough. Also make it like create food where we can specify what we want to summon.

Drakeero 01-01-2007 12:39 AM

That suggestion is a good idea, but not really part of this conversation. The EM team does not use summon monster to spawn the monsters for events, and the purpose of this is to make it possible for non-EM kingdom leaders to do better events for their own people.

Then again, that becomes different if Kingdom leaders become partial EM's. Either way, we (the kingdom leaders) get more ability to keep our people happy.

If it was implemented then it would become pretty much redundant to have to give the power to create monsters to someone just because they managed to become leader of a kingdom.

cwc money 01-01-2007 01:16 AM

Googi, to some extent you are right. Yes just becuase you become a kingdom leader, if this is added, you get these rights. But if you honestly think about it... is that trully bad? how many real kingdom leaders where bad? i'm not saying not good in ruling, but were acually bad. Bosh maybe? i cant think of anyone else in the last few years. a kingdom leader, 99.999% of the time, is trusted, alot. As well as very well respected. Here's food for thought. Kingdom leaders get debug right? well thats ONLY reson, only because they are the leaders... not because thier staff, or EM, or anything else. and the point of them getting debug is...? so that they can work on stuff to help thier kingdom. This is the same resoning... i still find this a great idea, with very very little to no flaws. Drakeero has done a wonderful job thinking this up, and spent alot of time destroying all possibilities of abuse. Also, i like the new idea of partial EM status, but i think maybe with a difforent name. Not Events Master, or people will get confused. I'd say something with the tag name of Kingdom Event Master or something of the sort. the wand, wasnt such a hot idea... it could easily be traded. But this new tag idea, great.

Want to tell me what actual power come with debug? I guess you get the power of talking to staff who have actual real powers. But the point isn't that it's subject to abuse, but rather that kingdom leaders are normal players who just happen to have gained control of a kingdom. Why should powers get dumped on them just because EMs don't feel like making some monsters for them? Especially seeing as the problem can be effectively dealt with by expanding monster summoning for everyone.

Err ok let me get this straight first of all. We event masters don't make new events. The ones that do that are Bjorn, stefan and the gk dev team. We events master just host them. Granted Cube wars was a em made and so was rp event.

I like ur idea but on the flip side if you get rights for monsters it will be the ones on the list that we have and u cannot change them in any way..at least bjorn wouldn't allow it.

I am willing to suggest maybe bjorn or sam hire on kingdom specific em's with summon rights. Like kingdom leaders. But there is no guarantee you will be on when the event is going on. Take cp for example..usually alan isn't on when events happen. So maybe the kingdom leader and one trusted backup person who you know will be on to host.

As a EM i will support this idea as it will take kingdom events further but i will stick to my opinion that maybe its not such a good idea.

Drakeero 01-01-2007 07:14 AM

Actually, I do believe my suggestion entails the kingdom monster summoners getting less summoning variety then regular EM's. I asked for overworld monsters, dungeon/HH monsters, map monsters, and Lords, all of which would provide absolutely no items or experience.

Once told to, you main EM's can summon elves, pumpkin lords, grim reapers, and other things.

It would work in favor of the kingdoms. Who do the players turn to when they want to have an event, or see an event in the game? Us, the Kingdom Leaders. A good Leader who listens to his people is far more aware of what the people want and desire, and is far more capable of custom tailoring events to them. And sometimes, when people just want to have a monster bash that's challenging even at medium levels, its just not possible to set up a monster event. Summoned monsters can't be released cleanly in large numbers, and its very expensive mana crystal wise. Also, with the disabling of removing map monsters from dungeons many kinds of monsters are now impossible to use for monster events unless you bug the map somehow.

Also, Googi. If Kingdom leaders are 'just another regular player' then why bother giving us any rights at all? We are players, we do play the game to have fun like anyone else, but we assume the added responsibility of leading other players and enriching their gameplay. We don't just enjoy ourselves, we try to help others enjoy the game. We have debug access to help the staff search for bugs in new updates, as well as to develop the lands entrusted to our control. We are not normal players, we have dedication and responsibility above and beyond those of normal players. Whether or not we're good, depends on how well we carry out these duties. To me this is a small request for something that I can use to help make being in Zormite more fun, and obviously it will allow other leaders to make their respective kingdoms more interesting as well.

I also don't like the idea of a specialized EM hired for each Kingdom. The whole purpose of this is to try to shorten the distance between the players who want the events, and the person who can give it to them. Another EM may be slightly easier to contact (assuming they don't get bored and spend all their time on another server), but is still not the person that people go to directly. With this proposal, the person who listens to the people, plans the event, and requests/authorizes it, also gets to be the one who summons the monsters as well.

"I can use it for my members" can be used as a justification for trying to get just about any power. Surely members are going to want to play other events as well from time to time. Why not give the power to host all events to kingdom leaders?

In reality, the best solution is to allow players to play any event without an EM if they want to. Back on 2K1 almost all events (survivor being the notable exception) could be played without an Events Team member simply by getting a group together, going to the place of the event, and having half the players there say "start".

So stop being cheap and/or lazy about it. Mana crystals are cheap and it's easy to summon monsters, release them, and then recharge and summon some more a little bit away. If you want to use mana crystals but for some reason don't want to pay for them then get some money from the members to pay for them if they want to fight monsters so much. Do things for yourself instead of relying on special powers.

Which is why I'm saying that summoning should be retooled to allow for their summoning.

Kingdom leaders have powers that pretty much amount to trumped up guild leader powers, which is fitting because kingdoms pretty much amount to trumped up guilds (inevitably someone will reply "BUT KINGDOMS HAVRE RP!!!1" which is true but not really relevant when talking about the position they occupy on the server in this sense.)

As I said before, defining debug access as a true "power" is contentious. At the very least, it's clearly a "power" in a very different category of power than the ability to do things on the main server that a normal player cannot.

In order to do this you would need someone to script a totally different thing for the summon thing. We can't summon anything over the occasional lord. only sam and bjorn can do things like grim reapers and other things. we have stuff from mushrooms to panthers to demons to elves. I can give u a detailed list of what we EM's can summon.

I know it would work in favor for the kingdoms. But I know when I have done event dungeon i have gotten nothing but complaints. "Oh how exciting..you just summon monsters to kill". When i do a rp event though its actually cooler..ppl tend to like it when i summon monsters. But you have to take the good with the bad. If someone found out that you had the ability to summon they will bug you non stop to summon them. i have at least 1 person every two days asking me to mass summon trexes or some other monster for them for fun.

Actually you are a regular player. Just because you have debug access to make new levels and add ppl don't mean a thing. Its like me owning the MMT. I have rights to add, remove, kick and redo my levels. But difference is i am also a events master. Like Bjorn explained it to me one day (paraphrasing) "you don't own MMT..you just own it in RP". The same thing applies to all kingdom leaders. You don't really own it..its just a huge rp guild. You can do what I can (well more rights) but its the same..its just a rp guild.

Well the idea was to target people who would be on. Like say for cresent pirates...you have Alan and say Felix who has hosted a lot. you don't want to give it just to the kingdom leader. What if the leader is barely online. Like Draxx. He's barely online anymore. So why give him the summon rights if he won't be. Its a waste. I say find the people who spend the most time online and give them the summon right. That way your guaranteed to have a rp event that will be done no problemo.

Just a normal announcement. I will probably try to host a rp event tommorow so all show up who are going too.

ZuperZeb42 01-01-2007 02:49 PM

Hmm, well this idea certainly seems harmless enough, but then, the CP members are all going to be generally richer and have more fun in their events due to the sheer mass of their Kingdom...smaller kingdoms like Samurai which I am a member of will not be able to make use of this. Unless you can go to another island and join in the event just for fun? It just seems a little unfair from my point of view. Although I see what you mean Drakeero, if Zormite can use it...:p

Ravenblade1979 01-01-2007 05:04 PM

Here is the list of my regular summons:

mushroom
Evil bomy
T-Rex
Iguana Baby
Iguana
Skeleton
Demon
Cyclop
Evil Dievil
Evil Heavil
Panther
Sabretooth Tiger

add onto that the holiday specific monsters like elves or halloween monsters. I can't do other summons unless i summon myself and even then at best i can do a mushroom with my magic level. Don't go thinking we EM's have that much say. We don't.

Zeb its a idea but at best they will be looking at a big NO for the time being.

Here he was suggesting that when a player with the right to add another player in a kingdom adds the such player. It has to be confirmed, or denied, by the player that is being added... so people can't just add people to the kingdom without them knowing or approving.

Can't you take the script for the kingdom gear and modify it so that only the king, queen, and an events person can hold the item. The five different kingdoms can make a special tag for each of there own kingdoms for the events person.

I really like this idea. Yeah it may have some bugs when first release. Just about everything "new" will have abusable bugs. Thats why this game is BETA. What harm could you really do with such an item. summon a bunch of monsters that attack your own player, give no exp, and drop no items. When we deal with kings and queens. We're dealing with Adults. not kids. (occaisional acceptions apply)

>_< This had nothing to do with the orginal suggestion. I guess he was refering to the pillory abuse trying to say that people with rights added players to ther kingdom and locked them in the pillory.

Can't you take the script for the kingdom gear and modify it so that only the king, queen, and an events person can hold the item. The five different kingdoms can make a special tag for each of there own kingdoms for the events person.

What
Maybe you read what I quoted first. He said he was not asking for such things and I just said that this rights he did not ask for will never given away and that not even the events staff like he said got them. Please explain me now what you want to say with restriction of items to a kingom refering to what I talked about?

I really like this idea. Yeah it may have some bugs when first release.

I did not say no to the idea but what you said makes sense in my point of view. But then why even release something if you already know it has bugs? That makes no sense to me.
