Graal 3D (The Lost Server)

WTF ever happened to Graal 3D? was it just a fail, people got lazy, or what?
What happened to graal 3D?

Rapidwolve 12-18-2006 11:44 PM

Its under development now. They took the preview off

Devil 12-19-2006 12:47 AM

Yeah it's still going.. I wish they put a new preview on.

VashX20 12-19-2006 04:07 AM

I liked the preview...it needs more items tho...if they make it thru, graal will be a bigtime MMO.

Devil 12-19-2006 04:24 AM

It has the possibilty of becoming a decent MMO, but not instantly bigtime.

I can't wait to see how much Graal will charge a year to play 3D.

VashX20 12-19-2006 05:25 AM

The cheaper the better because then more peeps will buy thinking "Hey its cheap!" or what not then owner of graal will get more profit. (its in a few business books i have. LOL) :D

Devil 12-19-2006 05:31 AM

Your business books should put out the overheads aswell.

It's all well and dandy to make something cheaper than other things, so more people will buy it. More people = more bandwith = larger costs for company.

Luda 12-19-2006 06:02 AM

:/ I wish we didn't have to pay

Devil 12-19-2006 06:06 AM

I can't wait for it to come out, I don't mind paying as long as it's playable.

it does tell that stuff too but if you have alot of peeps paying at a cheap yet managable price then you'll be able to pay for that stuff and still have more profits...I love doing business.

Devil 12-19-2006 06:35 AM

It doesn't really work like that lol...

It's not that simple.

It's more than just that though. Because the number of new players is diminishing and eventually your initial burst of revenue will be depleted but the total cost will remain the same, which is where Graal is at now.

Using a market penetrating cost strategy isn't very effective at all, if anything Graal should use a promotional pricing strategy, or start high and then undercut the prices slowly. Because if they start low they're not going to have anywhere to move.

or make it straight up u need to be p2p to get it and no newbs allowed to even test it...and on the website you can get video and pix of G3D (what do you think of that?):D

Devil 12-19-2006 10:28 AM

I downloaded a game yesterday which will remain unnamed, and it didn't say it was P2P, when I loaded it, I was pissed off because it wouldn't let me even test. So I PMed a GM and he said "Yes it is p2p, 10euro's a month".

I wasn't impressed.

Now thats just a 5#!7 site with no info about the game such as if its p2p only or not and how it looks (screenshots, gameplay videos, etc.)

Devil 12-19-2006 11:42 AM

It's very much worth the money, I just couldn't be bothered finding my credit card :P

ROFL!! Now thats a post! :D - You never know tho...it could happen. LOL

Tyhm 12-20-2006 05:49 AM

Ya know, for all this talk of The Existing Graal Is Going In The Wrong Direction, I sure hope they start out Graal3D in the right direction. It's been well-evidenced that it takes a bloody act of congress to fix anything on The Graal That Is.

ViperZakuto 01-13-2007 06:41 PM

bah

i thought G3D was pretty lame. How can you make graal... 3d? It cuts out the aspect of Graal in general. yes it might be fun for a few weeks or even months... but i doubt that it will keep people around for years like gk and some other servers.

Crono 01-13-2007 06:42 PM

They're not making Graal a 3D game. They're just making a 3D server/adding 3D support.

ViperZakuto 01-13-2007 07:00 PM

i know this... i'm not stuipid ya know. But them spending too much time on something that isn't really gonna do them any good. Is just a waste of time and money.
spend less time on lame stuff and update what needs to be updated, and keep the current players of graal happy.

Tyhm 01-13-2007 08:55 PM

The classic "Graal is the best 2D game on the market, why make it the worst 3D game too?" argument. It's valid...I think it'd be interesting if they did manage to keep the 2D style in a 3D game. Of course, most of Graal's charm is that the 2D style also encouraged 2D development, giving us stuff like the Gerudo Tents, etcetera..."I has paint, I makes graphics lolz", which you can't do in a 3D game. It'd either need a ridiculous buttload of predefined objects to skin (or a very clever small-load?) or an enclosed editor, as the average Graalian isn't even going to download a free editor to work on things - poll how many LATs bothered to download Flash even though Graal supports it now, the number won't be high.

But all told, it's an interesting concept. Could wind up like Futurama, mostly 2D with the occasional 3D flourish just because they can - use a locked camera angle for most of it, then as the player walks through the door the camera pans in after them...it's the Standard Classic Overhead View until they draw their bow, then the camera darts in for FPS mode...the player approaches the mountains and it pans down to Platformer View...might be more trouble than its worth, but we'll see.

Devil 01-14-2007 03:37 AM

I don't really like the look of it, in that christmas card thingo, it looked too much like other games, and lost it's "Graal Appeal". I'll still play it though, until everyone goes back to 2D.

I'd hate to be a stick in the mud, because I'm sure Unixmad & co. don't appreciate these sort of comments - but I really don't think it'll be that great.

I wish they would concentrate on their current content more instead of spreading themselves thinner and thinner.

Devil 01-14-2007 08:27 AM

Yeah I don't think you're wrong there.

kia345 01-14-2007 08:41 AM

what'll come first, the new delteria or graal3d...

zokemon 01-26-2007 09:49 PM

Graal appeal?
Graal culture?
"It would take away what is Graal"?

That just plain stupid people. Graal lost what ever "culture" it had along time ago. We all know the Graal is what it is because it is player run for the most part. If they make 3D support and allow players to develop 3D world then it will make tihngs all that much better.

As the Manager of Maloria I have constant problems with getting a decent graphic artist. If we could go 3D then we wouldn't have to worry about that as much...why? 3D modeling is much easier to learn and pick up then pixel art is (at least from a scripter's view point). I have worked with the Torque engine alot and developed some things using it.

So unlike you guys, I am THRILLED to have Graal 3D come out and feel it will be a definate boost to Graal in general.

I do think Graal needs to take a better approuch to it's business and finance aspects though. Instead of charging for playing the game, Graal should develop 'perks' on every main server. So if you bought a VIP account it would give you bonuses on all the Classic and Gold servers that are substancially better. The MMO market (in terms of money) is not about the number of people that you find that are willing to pay, it is about finding the people that have the money and support those who don't. If you have a larger player base, you will attract more people. Simple. Seen the major free MMORPGs today? You find people who are insanely rich and are willing to spill tons of money out for 'perks'. They start the game out as free and aren't restricted because they didn't pay anything. They go "Oh, look at this cool bonus I could get if I paid money. Mom can I have your credit card?" They are little kids but hey, if you can exploit them and create a stable, successful MMORPG? Then do it!

Kirika 01-26-2007 11:15 PM

i cant wait to make mesh and textures ;)

Tyhm 01-27-2007 04:16 AM

I fear editing 3D. I like editing 2D.

ViperZakuto 01-27-2007 04:47 AM

i guess i could give it a chance. seeming how kingdoms is just left to rot and die. Who's to say they will spend the time needed to keep a 3D game going? they definately won't be able to do it with the team they have for gk... they would need tons more people
