Developing the Ministry of Magics
apprentice, sorcerer, wizard, archmage... whopee... how dull.
First, we need to improve the names a little. Then, figure out just what the Ministry of Magics will actually DO other then cast spells at things, what RP background will they have, what will the advancement requirements be, that kind of thing. To start with I'm thinking of Shaman or something to replace Sorcerer. |

Some other names for magician:
archimage, charmer, conjurer, conjuror, diabolist, diviner, enchanter, enchantress, exorciser, exorcist, fortune-teller, genie, genius, illusionist, marvel, medicine man, medium, miracle worker, necromancer, prophet, satanist, seer, shaman, siren, soothsayer, sorcerer, spellbinder, thaumaturge, theurgist, trickster, virtuoso, voodoo, warlock, witch, witch doctor, wizard And wizard: astrologer, augurer, clairvoyant, conjurer, diviner, enchanter, fortuneteller, hypnotist, magician, magus, medium, necromancer, occultist, palmist, seer, shaman, soothsayer, sorcerer, thaumaturge, warlock, witch |
Archmage Is Fine I Believe.
Wizard is kinda vague, try Enchantor Shaman Sounds Fine And Apprentice sounds good too |
Don't forget the origin of the current names. They were bland names hastily thrown together to set up the final format of the ranking system. Fully intended to be replaced in the future.
I'm trying to avoid things like necromancer or illusionist because the name would then force a narrower band of RP then I'd like. I'm not going to have individual Fire Wizards or Lightning Wizards, just "Wizard" and let the person add the Fire or Ice or Dark on in his own personal playing experience and RP development. |
It Should Be Like This
Apprentice: 3 Spells Scroll Of Wizardry Sorceror: lvl 3 Magic 5 Spells Wizard: Lvl 7 Magic 15 Spells Archmage:Lvl 10 Magic 30+ Spells |
Perhaps since I roleplay as an Orc, a Shaman rank can be added. Though, I am pretty bad at making up my own lore, there is many other MMORPG's, where Orc's have the ability to become one with nature, and control the elements. (Which you know I do, with my Lightning spells ect.)
Ranking System --------------- Controller of the Voodoo ( or something. ) Shaman Adept |
Shaman's aren't always Voodoo. A similar rank to Shaman would be Seer, but that's more lore orientated then magic orientated. Think of it this way. I'm looking for a good "archetype" names for magic student, good magic caster, powerful magic caster. The Archmage is a special rank for the ministry leader and is sort of a special case. You don't have to worry about requirements for that rank.
Orc Shaman would be an individual RP rank under the archetype rank of Shaman. You could address yourself as an orc shaman, but to keep the rank system trim and understandable, I would not actually make the Orc Shaman rank. I was toying with the idea of Apprentice, Shaman, Spirit Shaman, and Shaman King, but that would A: Leave Apprentice the odd man out B: Way too many Shamans C: Too many people view Shamans as being withdoctors, voodoo practioners, or medicine men and would create too much of an RP bias. |

Alright, so Shaman for the magic ministry (corresponding with monk for the religion ministry) that sounds pretty good. What comes after shaman?

Look in your previous posts, I really liked the sound of Spirit Shaman, Windwalker would be neat aso.

Ah yes, spirit shaman. Using the full powers of the esoteric self, the 'spirit' to gain metaphysical power over the physical elements.
And which shaman are you referring to, Googi? Native American shamans may have had some decidedly religious overtones, but Voodoo shamans believed and practiced very much in worldly magics, not just diefic powers. (However, since prayer and prayer casting would be an important part of the magic guild (both being spells of some form or another) they perhaps shaman IS good) |

Native American shamans didn't have religious undertones. They were a religious tone. They were religious leaders and spiritual healers.
