Graal 4 Distorts Line in?
 

Why does my graal 4 distort my line in source when I play Graal Kingdoms??
Is this common with other people? Or is it just my PC being odd.

I have an Audigy 2Zs from Creative Labs, I would like to play music from my MP3 player when I play graal, but this is getting odd.

The only problem I've had with audio while running Graal is the recording quality. On two Creative cards (Live! 5.1 and X-Fi) it's done that, but using the Kx Project drivers stopped that, as well as nearly every audio-degrading problem I've had. Creative has gotten themselves a reputation for buggy drivers and software from what I've read, so considering those two things, it's likely the driver. The Kx Project drivers should work with your card, so maybe check that out. www.kxproject.com

Before you consider doing that, try turning off (if it's on) the microphone option in Graal and see if it stops the problem.

Is it recording or playback that's getting the distortion? For playback, the only thing I can think of is if the source is set with a gain boost. Maybe you actually have it in the microphone port? Try the other audio-in port and see if that works. My experiences is that with line-in, you'll have to turn up the volume a little more than with microphone, so the quieter one might be line-in.

The Mic in does not function for stereo signals, and I dont use it for anything

I'll assume the distortion happens during line-in playback, and not recording, though I'll test both soon. The drivers for the X-Fi give the same problems that any other of my cards' Creative drivers did, so I won't be too surprised if this happens on my card as well. I just looked in another one of your recent threads with your dxdiag log, and your sound drivers are dated '03, and there's October '06 drivers out for your card, so updating your drivers might fix it (http://www.soundblaster.com/support/).

Can you give audio examples (recordings)? Distort could mean lots of things in your context.

Also, you said this happens when you play Graal Kingdoms. Do you mean that's the server you play, or that's the only server that causes the problem?

I might be able to, I am not so sure if it is playback or actual distortion of the line in channel. It would be possible that the "newer" drivers for my Audigy 2zs that the microsoft tech told me to use weren't the best. I didnt like it from the start of using it, I just cannot unnistall the new drivers though.

This is Gran Turismo 4 recorded through line-in via composite to 1/4 stereo. Both playback and recording quality is unaffected in this test. I'm using X-Fi drivers dated 2005 on an X-Fi card. Update your drivers and come back with your results. (What do you mean by can't uninstall? It should be in add/remove programs in the control panel)

First time: without Graal running
Second time: with Graal running
Third time: with Graal running and the microphone option on

I've been experiencing really odd annomolies with my XP Home.

Example of what is going on is failing to launch Internet Explorer after login, unless you wait for everything to stop loading. Direct X Registry key values missing, which are not fixed by reinstalling SP2 or Direct X. Failing to boot up at all when it so desires... I dont know about that one some days.
