How come level. var's can't be read clientside? :(

It was planned to add something like this together with the tile layers, but I cannot say yet when it will be added.

They are not always shared between the serverside and the clientside though.

Ahh but his original question was "How come level. vars can't be read clientside" which one could interpret him saying that he set a level. var clientside and wasn't able to read it while still on the clientside ;)

I was just trying to point out to him that he should state in his first post

It depends on which side you set it. If you set it serverside, you can't read it clientside, vise-versa.
