Wandless Casting

Well, it kind of get's annoying having to equip your wand and cast a spell, so I thought maybe after training say at level 10 the mage feels adept at spell casting and may persue a quest to master the ability of casting without a staff, but once they learn casting without a staff they can't go back to using a staff because they adapted to casting without a staff. At first the mage is not used to it but the more they cast the higher level it gets and once it's level 3 in hand casting then you will do more damage then you could with a staff, the person also casts a wee bit slower without the staff. This quest would say only be open once a week so it's sort of a special thing.

This is my idea

no

Googi 10-23-2006 04:13 AM

Casting while wielding nothing might be okay, but casting while wielding a weapon is a big no.

anubis_wing 10-23-2006 01:28 PM

Well, more like free hand casting, sounds better

Draenin 10-23-2006 02:34 PM

No it doesn't.

Admins 10-23-2006 04:30 PM

Well its techincally possible and in some movies you see wizards casting spells without wands, but it would make wands pointless somehow, and equipping a wand is not really that hard I think. You can also fight without any weapon, but it is much weaker.

Crono 10-23-2006 04:54 PM

It should be possible to cast without the wand but the "power" of the magic would be as much as the "power" of someone using their fist as opposed to a weapon. I guess it would be all for show. :P

Yes I agree.

Also a new "wand system" would be nice.
Why do we have lots of rods and wands, but they have "only" different looks, but same function? Wouldn't it be nice to improve them, or give some wands a specially power for some sort of spells?

What about int, wis and pow + on wands or magic resist or some thing along them lines sort sort of like the Sabre of Glamdri but on a wand.

I think that would work, but If you give a wand to much stats it will be unfair.
Maybe have +1 pow,wis or int a wand or some magic resistance. If there was +2 stats on or more than 1 perk on it might make to much of a differance.

See for the wands pointless they don't add much as it is. But to stop it from getting out of hand that's why I said they'll cast slower and make it a quest.

MasterNuke 10-23-2006 07:03 PM

Nothing out there says that a mage's spell focusing instrument must be a wand. Hell... technically, you shouldn't even need one. I've always used an RP reason as to why wands have to be used.

xAndrewx 10-23-2006 07:47 PM

Hmm, Graal Kingdom's need some idle gani's, like just swinging a rod around, making each rod have something new other than an image. I think that a stat on a wand would pretty much ruin wand's on GK =s

Admins 10-23-2006 07:50 PM

It could be made so that casting without wand takes two or three times the amount of spell or grace points

People wouldn't use it then... Well, I wouldn't.

Holy shnikes (random nonsense) dude that's way too much. Maybe you can only cast certain spells like 1 target spells such as magic missle, or magic bullet instead of the larger onces such as icestorm, and lightning.

Also, another way to beef it up is take suggestions maybe certain wands and they add special abilities, like casting speed reduced or spell points +15 or make it so not all wands have the same gani, cuz I mean cmon holding a stick infront of you seems kind of.....dumb, maybe add a little chanting, words come above their heads or maybe say flames erupt around them, maybe make it so at lower levels spells can backfire and they take 2x as much spell points and do 1/2 the damage, but maybe only until the player level is 5 then they are better. Just some suggestions

MasterNuke 10-23-2006 10:19 PM

I think the reason why people would want to use something else besides a wand is because currently, wands give no benefit other than the ability to cast spells.

anubis_wing 10-23-2006 10:29 PM

Hello? My suggestion mean ANYTHING!

That's what I've been trying to say by giving them a stat or somthing like that. Prohaps make some new wands and staffs. Like big Quater-Staffs that you can use as a weapon aswell and hit people with it aswell as cast spells.

Yes and maybe the "Quater-Staffs" can have a elemental attack on them so the fire staffs can do fire damage or maybe a healing staff so if you hit some body they will get healed (Yes i know this is on Final Fantasy so dont put the idea down becurese of it).

anubis_wing 10-24-2006 01:31 PM

Don't ignore my suggestion......
Anyways I thought it was a Quarter-Staff

Bloody love it. :p

Crono 10-24-2006 05:36 PM

Different rods should have different bonuses. If not I still think wandless magic should just be a show-off kind of thing like I posted before.

anubis_wing 10-24-2006 09:55 PM

Well, maybe if wandless casting took 2x as much so it's sort of a quick access thing, but it still leaves the option open for wands. But wands need a major upgrade.

UltimatheChosen 10-25-2006 04:13 AM

I support the quarterstaff idea. Staves rule.

anubis_wing 10-25-2006 04:29 AM

I hate when I'm ignored. I bring up a topic and you all go on to say how fun staff's are instead of reasons to tweak my idea to be acceptable.

MasterNuke 10-25-2006 06:18 AM

But it brings up the issue of casting not only barehanded... but holding a different weapon such as a light blade or a dagger.

anubis_wing, I kinda stopped reading your posts after you sudgested serious nerfs while not using a wand.

anubis_wing 10-25-2006 01:14 PM

Then why not suggest how to make my idea better?
Casting barehanded isn't the same as casting with a weapon.

Gothika 10-25-2006 10:14 PM

If I can find some spare time in between all my college work and Development work on a Graal Server I could throw together a few gfxs for a Quarter-Staff.
I could make a few. ect. 1 for each element, and maybe some kingdom ones.
If I do find time to make them I'll post them on the forums so you all can give me some feedback and tell me what I can change.

anubis_wing 10-26-2006 10:33 PM

I still wanna see casting without a wand, not with anything else but just without a wand.

bgumeny 10-26-2006 10:50 PM

Its really kind of easy to just hotkey your wand and cast a spell. I don't see what the big deal is or how handcasting would make it easier.

It will not make it any easier only for people to cast magic and use a sword at the same time but that will kind of suck.

ViperZakuto 11-09-2006 09:18 AM

why not make some new wands with 1-3 slots
1 slot would be rare
2 slots would be rarer
3 slots would be rarest

and make some certain types of mana stones that if you forge it in the wand give extra stats or bonuses. Pow, Int, Mana boost, Spell point Boost, resistances, attunements, ect.

Also you could make a mage who forges the wands for you at a pesky price.
or maybe make a spell of forging, but i like the mage that does it for a pesky price better.

these could all be located in the Mage Shop =D

lordbosh 11-09-2006 05:04 PM

hell yes then i can get even more powerful and rich by hoarding all the slotted wands and making them evil wands
