graal editor not liking .png tilesets

I've been trying to use several different tilesets in the level editor, and none of them work. They are the right size, I have the filename right, and it's in the graal folder. I tried uninstalling then reinstalling the level editor with no avail. Then I used a .gif version and BAM, it worked. Why aren't .png tilesets (other than pics1 of course) that worked for me before, suddenly not working?

are you making sure the .png tileset has been converted down to 256 color (8-bit)? If its still in full color, it won't work.

I thought graal accepted other png formats now? And it was working before, but it suddenly stopped. It is 8 bit btw.

What are you actually doing to try to load that .png file into the editor?

WanDaMan 10-17-2006 09:06 AM

Move the tileset in to the same directory as the levels.

Use the special key combination.
> < ^ V > < ^ V A

Or try making sure it's .png and not .PNG, caps usually matter.

Wouldn't it be that the tileset will only work online and not offline since graal editor is still technically V2? o.o

:asleep:

Open your Graal directory, you should have gif2mng.exe there. Drag the gif version of the tileset into that icon and a png will appear in the folder of the gif.

Try that png, I bet it works.

Another suggestion : I'm not sure why but when I play with tilesets it normally goes gray my tileset (No tiles, just gray); add 'removetiledefs;' above the addtiledef command.

Crono is right. The reason it doesn't like 32bit pngs is because it's using v2. The 32bit png will work fine online, you just can't use it in the editor. So either make a dummy 8bit png to load the editor, and upload the 32bit one to your gserver, or just switch to 8bit completely. (Or you could always script an online level editor, and use 32bit pngs completely)

Yes the editor is basicly v2 without the online part. It only supports gifs and 8-bit pngs.
v4 suppots gif,24/32-bit pngs,a subset of mngs,jpeg,jpeg2000,bmp,tga,dds. An online editor is in the work, but not finished yet.
