Tree [wip]

1 Attachment(s)
This is a tree I'm working on for Legend.
It's a top down (birds eye) view of a tree. The outline is there so I know where I have to stop, the tree won't be perfect like that. I'm just wondering how my leaf detailing looks so far, etc.

konidias 09-20-2006 05:41 PM

Wouldn't it be better to work from the outside in? I mean the outer leaves are the ones that will be drawn under the inside leaves...

I'm thinking you're making the leaves too small already... if they continue to decrease in scale they will be 1 pixel in size about halfway through the graphic...

excaliber7388 09-20-2006 06:26 PM

I don't want to work backwards, but you;re right about the leaves shrinking to quickly :)

FaLLChiLD 09-20-2006 06:38 PM

It seems what you want to be the top of the tree (where it all splits) and the leaves branch down will need to be up more.

Cool!

The trees lookin' good sofar :)

Draenin 09-21-2006 04:43 AM

Looking pretty neat. Not sure why you'd need it to be at a top view, but whatever works.

Skrobo2 09-21-2006 05:33 AM

Not bad, I'd have to say I like it. Keep at it.

killerogue 09-21-2006 11:06 PM

not that hard :0

FaLLChiLD 09-22-2006 09:22 PM

Technically Graal is already birds eye view seeing as you see the top of the roofs, trees, ect.

konidias 09-23-2006 07:22 AM

Top down perspective. Not birds eye. =P Graal is like at a 3/4 - 1/2 perspective.

Tom 09-23-2006 01:12 PM

Graal is either really, just depends on the way you create the pixels :)

Elk 09-23-2006 01:35 PM

i liek graal

excaliber7388 09-23-2006 08:55 PM

yeah, it's 'top down' I called it birds eye view because a few people weren't sure what it was.

Looks weird in the middle oO

Infernix 10-04-2006 08:55 PM

Excalibur you worked so hard and Im srry to say that I dont see many postive comments comming in your future =(.

Goboom 10-04-2006 09:17 PM

Honestly I think you got lazy toward the end. :\

Chompy 10-04-2006 09:41 PM

I think it looks like, overviewed.. but the outline makes it look like you
grabbed your calculator and used scissor around the outline ^^

oh, and the finished looks more brighter then the "not-done" images longer up,
well I think thats just me or..?

It wasn't worth the ammount of effort you put into it. I hope you learned a valuable life changing lesson - be lazy.

You should have worked your way in from the outside like I suggested. :p

edit: and I'm far too lazy to do this properly, but you should be darkening the leaves as it goes further out, so it doesn't look so flat. the middle of the tree top is the highest point so it should be lighter.

Elk 10-04-2006 10:50 PM

too round

Bl0nkt 10-04-2006 11:54 PM

I'd like to suggest moving the area you have in the center more toward the top. It looks like you're looking directly down on top of it. Compare that to the perspective of a graal character. You never look on the top of their head.

That's how it's meant to be apparently.
Pay more attention, Hachi. :{

Looks more to me like he dropped it into photoshop, did a inner-glow effect and set the mode to normal so he could use black as the glow color.

xXziroXx 10-05-2006 03:34 AM

Am I the only one that realize he only made it for an example so that Ex could get a tip on how to improve it?

I may use that image, but judging by the comments, I will be redoing this.
Maybe bigger, better detailed leaves, with more realistic colors (not a black outline) and better leaf shapes?
Yes?

Yes, definately nicer leafs and less pattern-riffic.
