Legend Hirings

For info on Legend, see this thread:
http://forums.graalonline.com/forums...41#post1219341
A few things are still up in the air, but that's basically how the server will go. I've only just started it, so unfortunatly, I have nothing done yet to show you.
I normally would not post this kind of thread, however, I do plan to do this, and have almost everything figured out. There shouldn't be many scripting obstacles in the way, however, I would like a good scripter. Obviously, we're gonna need a lot of gfx work, levels as well. The top down perspective can be hard to make unique levels, but I think with a good looking tileset, we can manage. In fact, it should be easy. We will also need some good sound fx :)
So anyway, we're hiring all dev positions. I'll post content when I have it.

Skyld 09-18-2006 06:18 PM

I hope you don't insist on posting another 6,425,839 threads about hirings. ^^

excaliber7388 09-18-2006 06:21 PM

Of course not.
As long as mystic doesn't spam this one too :p

killerogue 09-18-2006 09:50 PM

I believe he's still banned. And if he isn't IMO he still should be. But all in all good luck Ex as with drive you can do anything. :]

MysticX2X 09-19-2006 03:12 AM

Suprise stan. And i havent even spammed half your dr thread you dip. But wtf is with legend, be more you know, original.

excaliber7388 09-19-2006 04:56 AM

Well, Legend is all the ideas I, or other people had before, but was either too lazy to do, or it would have been too difficult.
There will be multiple overworlds, because there will be multiple planets. You'll have to fly to them.
There will be nations controlling certain planets, or parts of others. There wil be fights to take control of a moon. I'd love to see if it was possible to make a 'global' map, basically, it loops around like it's wrapped around a sphere. But I don't think its posible.
I plan to make so many vehicles, a huge overworld, where you can go below ground, above it, over the sea, flying, or even going into space. Shooting down an enemy plane, blowing up enemy fortresses with a gps guided nuclear missile. Break into space stations owned by the enemy, etc. Eatch 'match' would last a few weeks, giving time for a lot to happen.
I after the matches, any changes (like one nation took over a moon, or stole a supply of missiles) they will keep them even in the next match. Players would be stuck on the team the whole time, however I will allow requests to switch if there's any problems (Mystic, you and I wouldn't be on the same team ;) ). If he teams get unequal, then I'd switch it around a bit. You'd have to buy replacement tanks, planes, etc for your team. I plan to make it very realistic, and it will take some strategy, and of course, skill.
As for the exp system, I don't think it's going to be extreme. There won't be a huge difference from a noobs stats, and a Legend's stats (Legend=highest rank).
I want there to be some nation loyalty, but also a competition for most kills, hghest rank, etc. I think with all the ways you can play, it's going to be really awesome

warp2ukew 09-19-2006 05:49 AM

Sounds cool, I'd help out if I thought it would be completed.

Show me some stuff in first person from the client, and it'll make me a semi-believer.

excaliber7388 09-19-2006 06:13 AM

I'll post it when I have some good looking stuff. Right now I have just that crappy person I used for making the movement scripts, and a few street/sidewalk tiles.
I'm gonna need a good gfxer, as it's a little hard to tell how big a building is, etc from a birds eye view. I may put the 'camera' at a slight angle, but it would loose a bit of it's ease of gameplay, which is not something I want.
After playing with it on my laptop, I've decided there will also be a second set of controls you can use, for when it may be hard to use the mouse/keys.

warp2ukew 09-19-2006 06:18 AM

To be honest, you need to learn to program and make a game.

Infernix 09-19-2006 09:23 PM

Just named your server The Next Failure V.2 . Analyze what you did wrong with your last server because it seemed you never wanted to admit that. Just like George bush and telling lies.

DR failed because:
It was not unique enough
It was not being developed quickly enough (to become unique)
Because it started out crappy, and no one was willing to check it out after that.

Angel_Light 09-21-2006 04:38 AM

Hey if you need any help with scripts/Sound effects/Graphics I can help you. :P I have finally mastered Fireworks MX

Quick screenshot.
The character is a test one, this is about the size of the character, but they'll look better. I just made it quick to test the scrips, etc. The tileset is a work in progres, and so far, I've been the only one working on it ;)

Luda 10-08-2006 08:20 PM

horriblex_x I liked your old idea with midevil stuff or w.e

Crono 10-08-2006 08:27 PM

tiles are perspectively wrong, well some of them

Darkyoshi12345 10-08-2006 10:01 PM

Eww, Up and Down towards the mouse, and Left and Right to strafe. Those are BAD controls. It will get confusing. Just make W=Up, A=Down, S=Left, D=Right. That way it gives less confusion with the movement and enables more maneuvers.

They're actually quite natural. And if I can figure out the math, the strafe will be an arc around the mouse. It's the way many 3d games work. The mouse also controls your field of view (where you're looking/aiming). Because I plan to make you be able to see best straight ahead.
What tiles are wrong for a top down perspective?

You forgott something; this is a 2D game, keyarrows are optimal for it.

asd

excaliber7388 10-09-2006 04:21 PM

The ones on the side of the building's roof I'll give you, but the others are top down perspectives of the classic graal door

I played around with a mouse based movement system before on graal. It's actually quite natural, however, I plan to allow for multiple different movement systems, so people can decide what they like best

Crono 10-09-2006 04:32 PM

That's one thick door. Hehe

excaliber7388 10-09-2006 05:00 PM

I wanted it to be obvious, because the entrance would be hard to tell otherwise.
I can shrink it if you think it it is too large, it's not set in stone yet.

xXziroXx 10-09-2006 05:50 PM

Oh wait, this is a top-down server? I only read like the post before mine.. mouse movement for sure!

Me and codein attempted a server making it able to take over bases and such but in a much better setting. And personally i wouldnt even want to be on the same server as you rather than the same team and you, and then you would try to ban me for some idiotic reason. Your perspective is ugly btw, change it. I hope you get a nice Gat while you're at it too.

I think Badlatino is coming back ;)

MysticX2X 10-09-2006 07:40 PM

Oh yes your most prized Gat, where is he? Please, that kid couldn't pixel up a straight line

excaliber7388 10-09-2006 07:43 PM

Lol I knew that still would piss you off XD
Somebody still has a bit of a grudge, after an entire year :p

Tom 10-09-2006 07:54 PM

I really dont like the top down view, but its good that your experimenting with different things. Plus its only my personal opinion.

Yeah, I was thinking of using an NPC for that, but I may work it into the tileset to reduce lag. :)

Tried what crono siad. There's still some tile errors, and I didn't make the doorways for the grass. Also, I didn't fix the perspective on the walls yet.

killerogue 10-09-2006 08:51 PM

I think this really looks good so far.

excaliber7388 10-10-2006 06:13 AM

Thanks.
I'm working on a better body/head/hat/gun images for the character, however it's more difficult when I don't have an offline gs2 editor, as I can't get on the client (well, I can, but NPC updates take well over a hlf hour. It's not graal's fault, it's my netwok !ppissed!).
Anyway, I'll probably make gs1 versions of the scripts for offline testing, then convert them to gs2 all at once, and screw trying to see the updates.

warp2ukew 10-10-2006 06:16 AM

Yeah that looks great, wow good luck.
