Okay, I suck at cliffs.
Can someone guide me in the right direction?
Other thatn that, how's this level? I haven't done one in a while so I'm even more rusty than usual.
It looks better when you play, because the waves look better, and they move (scripted)
Also, here's a look at some of the stuff I've recently changed about DR's tileset
Remember, wip ;)

Rapidwolve 08-31-2006 05:21 AM

Lol I couldnt do any better :]

Sum41Freeeeek 08-31-2006 05:41 AM

What's a wip?
Like, wipping up a level? lol

I think it looks cool.

I'm guessing Work in Progress.

The level is irrational (why are there stump bits there? And a stake? And a fence post?) and the edges look a bit sharp at areas.

There are also tile errors with the water.

Although it's a good start, as it is, I would not give this level a passing grade. It is not acceptable to go online, yet. Keep working on it.

Smoothen out the edges, make it a logical island, and try to add more variety with the island, with how the land touches the water.

Well...I dont really like it. Lots of tile errors in the water, and I dont like your cliffing. Wasnt there a cliffing tutorial somewhere on these forums?
Oh, and the tiles in the last two screenshots look totally ugly.

Crono 08-31-2006 02:28 PM

Wow, tile errors all over water including tileset related errors. The cliff has tile errors, detail is too UN-like, and may I repeat the cliff has tile errors.

The best way to learn how to cliff is to get the pre-defined cliffs and try to join them together. Thats how Wan taught me. XD

smirt362 08-31-2006 04:57 PM

I think there are too many rocks in the water in addition to what they said above.

excaliber7388 08-31-2006 05:51 PM

Yeah, wip means work in progress ;)
And I'll look around for that tutorial

Updates:

Still too much tile errors in water and cliffs, and too many stones in the water I think. But the details on the little island are better.

I believe I'm fairly good at cliffs XD Gerami if you find anything strike me down! lol but here a gmap I made. Pay attention to the center Island not the ones on the outside (those are made by the level generator not me)

Most are tile errors. The rest just do not look very nice. There may be more.

Alright watch and learn Huwajux. This is how you spot errors.

excaliber7388 09-02-2006 06:32 PM

fixing them is even harder.
I see that they don'took right, I'm just having trouble getting them to look right

WanDaMan 09-02-2006 06:45 PM

My friend Kaimetsu had a saying, "Learn to walk before you run" I believe.

excaliber7388 09-02-2006 07:38 PM

Sometimes though, you have to try to run ;)

Although it can sometimes be possible to learn this way, a sort of "trial by fire", most times it is much better to have a solid foundation to build upon. Learn the basics first (walking) and then move on to the more advanced areas of whatever you are trying to learn (running).

I'd like that.
Unfortunatly, I would like my server to stay alive, and I need great levels for it and being that I have very little level help...I'm trying to learn cliffs (thus, the cliff collab).
