Bomy Island Updates

2 Attachment(s)
Okay, starting a new thread to post updates on things that we are working on, and stuff that's already done. Not going to show everything but just some stuff to let you know what's happening.

The past couple of days we've been working on movement stuff, and setting up classes for use with other npcs and levels.

- I made the updated ganis for swimming, grabbing and pulling. (still need to do pushing)

- Twusk made a very nice pushing/pulling script for moving some objects around. It works serverside so the object is moved in front of everyone, not just the player moving it.

- Tool ganis and graphics have been made for catch net, shovel, pick axe, and scythe. The catch net is basically complete including the script, as well as the shovel and scythe. The pick axe is part of the mining system which I have not made yet, but have the gfx for. :)

- After cutting so many bushes, they have a chance of dropping something. Usually one gralat. (remember, five gralat is roughly the price of one roll of bread, so don't assume you can just cut bushes for all your money) :P It's just there to give bushes a little more purpose.

- New sign/message system with the addition of having multiple choice answers. You scroll the message with the left and right arrow keys and select an answer with the up and down arrow keys. The color of the message background is based on what type of message it might be. (blue for NPC, green for SIGN, etc) Also, the image of the sign you're reading is displayed, or if you're talking to an NPC, the head is displayed with a talking animation. :)

- wooden body and head for clothing to be placed on for display. these will be in shops so that you can better see what an article of clothing looks like while worn. you'll be able to rotate them to check the other directions as well (not implemented yet)

- several hairstyles from old heads have been converted to the new system, there are roughly 20 different hairstyles in the works which I have dug out of the heads folder and will turn into graphics for the new bodies. Each hairstyle will come in a wide variety of colors. also each hairstyle will have two different graphic sets. one for normal use, and one for "hat hair" this way you can still have your hair displayed while wearing a hat (if you look in the attached screenshot you can see an example)

- waterfalls look much better with semi-transparent animated falls, with a splashing water particle effect and even mist. it looks quite amazing when you see it animated.

I really like your sign message system you have there. Very neat. I am going to have to say the tileset looks pretty bad now that I've seen a little more of it. I like the bushes, I guess that is a positive, but the cliffing is horrible (you didn't even change some of the cliff tiles to your new style). The posts for the dock/water entry stick out a little too much, like they're too detailed for the surroundings. I still hate the default grass tile too.

As for your ideas, I think you're on the right track, just don't let this be another Oasis.

zim5354 05-04-2006 04:28 AM

i like the tiles from what i saw i just really hate the grass the waves are ugly.

xAndrewx 05-04-2006 09:42 AM

Going great :D
nice work

NeoJenova 05-04-2006 11:38 AM

lol... the tiles are not finished... half of the cliff tiles aren't done. these are just updates to show what's made so far. don't take them as completed work.

Skorne202 05-04-2006 02:22 PM

It all looks awesome so far. =D Will be glad to give it a test when your finished. Still don't see how the king npcs will work but I'll trust you on that. One question though. How will the recruiting for kingdoms be? Have to get in favor with the king npc or will players actually get to be the recruiters?

Waltz5 05-04-2006 05:19 PM

Gotta say I like what I see... in my mind if 2k1 is succesful now, it needs to be a reworked version like this. Kudos and good luck.

My only concern is if you're still planning on going with NPC kings?

Kuza 05-06-2006 01:37 AM

You have my attention. Konidias, I'd be glad to help with levels. I've tried contacting you on AIM, but it doesn't look like you need the help so good luck. I can't wait to play Graal2001... err, Bomy Island... ;)

Infernix 05-06-2006 03:10 AM

..Ima hope that isnt the usual excuse when someone says your tileset isnt good
(Excuse ="It isnt finished")

Just revise on the looks cause Im thinkin your gonna smash on the gameplay part. I like message system, Ive never thought of doing that on graal.

NJ, I think you can color the regular black one white. Also, I dont get how it will be different hairstyles and stuff. Will this be like kingdoms but with classic bodys? If so, thats gonna be cool. :P

konidias 05-09-2006 04:50 AM

okay I just got back from my weekend trip and it's late so I'll be resuming work on bomy island tomorrow, and then I'll update either tomorrow night or the next day.

Mykel 05-09-2006 09:12 PM

It all looks good, but with no offense intended, I refuse to get my hopes up. Nice work though.

konidias 05-13-2006 08:49 PM

Alright short update time! Well my vacation threw off the staff I was working with, since I haven't seen them on lately... Anyway, I started working again myself. :)

I removed all of the bomy moon and placed an outline of where I want the Pirate Cove to go. I also started fixing up the mining town area. Updating the graphics and adjusting some tiles and just making the levels less bland but still simple. I'm working mainly on the mining area because I'm getting ready to update the mining job and all that goes with it.

I found out I'm going to be moving next Saturday so I'm really pressed for time. May has been a busy month for me. Hopefully I can get in touch with the people who are helping me out so I can at least give them projects to work on while I'm without internet.

konidias 05-19-2006 09:42 PM

Okay here is a quick rundown of what we've been working on recently...

- finished the basic graphic directions and ganis for new horse
- new watercan graphic and gani made
- mining mini-game/script 90% completed with many new ganis and graphics and sound
- birds movement script redone and improved for smoother movement
- twusk is re-scripting my old inventory script to make it much much better
- I've updated quite a few more tiles and smaller graphics

I'm moving today/tomorrow and probably won't have internet until the middle of the week, so progress might slow down a tad.

Our next project is farming and I'm also wanting to test out the hit detection and fix up the HP system properly. Oh, and lots of levels have been updated I just don't care to list them all, and I figured that was a given. >_<

Progress IS coming along nicely though. When look at all the files that I've created from this, it's easier to feel like I'll get finished with this project. :)

brock128 05-22-2006 04:54 AM

Is it just me or do you always post updates before you're about to leave for some reason or after you come back for some reason?

Good luck moving, I moved last year and it wasn't fun. :(

Brad 05-23-2006 07:44 AM

brad will return to the graal scene if this project is completed

you're giving me hope koni, don't let me down

oh by the way i'd like to help out with whatever I can so get at me sometime via forum pm since i dont give out my regularly used aim to graal ppl since im afraid they will stalk me. Keep in mind im not tryin to be one of 'those guys' who makes posts like these trying to get in on a project, but 2k1 was my favorite place.

konidias 05-23-2006 06:36 PM

Alrighty, well I'm finally moved and I *just* got my internet connection. So things should get back on track shortly. Twusk has hopefully been working on some scripts while I was away. :) I have a heck of a lot of unpacking and stuff to do. Thankfully my net connection here is like a thousand times better than before.

So anyway, I'll probably get back working on the server in a day or two... I still have to put furniture together and I'm waiting on a bed to arrive and all sorts of other stuff. But fear not, the project is not going to die. >_<

xAndrewx 05-23-2006 07:50 PM

yay

kojicolnair 05-24-2006 04:41 PM

sounding good =P I believe in konidias!

konidias 05-29-2006 02:58 AM

Updates time. :)

Twusk has been working hard on many things. We've tested out the hp/hit detection system. I remade the sword attacking and hurt ganis. The sword is completely attached to the hand now so it looks a bit smoother IMHO. But it's still the same old classic slashing that you know and love. The hit detection is pretty darn accurate but we've yet to test it with many people at once and possible lag situations.

There's also a neat new technique which should make fighting interesting. You can use your shield to actually block attacks. When your shield gets hit, sparks fly and you bounce back a little bit. It's very fun and useful. If you hold down the button you can face in any direction with the shield out. But you cannot walk with the shield out.

Pushing and pulling is completed with new ganis. The watering can and seed bag are totally functional now, and I think the watering can looks a LOT better now. We've gotten halfway through the apple tree farming script.

I won't go into details about it but we have all the graphics done for it basically, and the trees grow and you can water them and stuff.

Once we finish up farming we can move on to fishing.

Oh, and plans for new quests and old quest revisions are in the works. I hope to have a lot of innovative and fun quests for everyone to enjoy.

JinZero 05-29-2006 06:35 AM

Holla!

With all these updates.. can you take one thing from lance?

Keep the server in the same idea Graal2001 was back then. Don't just replace, I wan't to still have some memories of stuff :(

Brad 05-29-2006 03:33 PM

cant wait til we pk and abuse the shields to block ppl in unstick me

I'm trying my best to keep the feel of the server like the 2k1 I remembered back when it first started out.

Of course new things are going to be new to everyone, but I'm not going crazy and like removing bomboria or changing names of all the towns, or getting rid of all the old npc characters and stuff.

Lance's idea of 2k1 was nothing like what 2k1 was... as far as I'm concerned.

lol Brad, I think that won't be possible. It will be interesting to knock someone back against a wall while they are using the shield though, because if you keep swinging at them, they have no choice but to let their guard down to try and get away. ^^

Infernix 05-29-2006 04:35 PM

lol "memories", Im sure he wont remove all the old content. And if this server could survive off memories alone, people would still be playing it. Im pretty sure some actual "fun" needs to be thrown in here and there.

but when you are rollin with your pk guild you get ppl to block with shields and others to dominate them when theyre slashin the guys holding shields

watch I gurantee we will be able to abuse it to pk in gangs

Welcome Back ( I guess)

Konidias: Why haven't you recieved mod of the Graal Bomy Lands PWA if yours is the only one being developed?

konidias 06-30-2006 10:38 PM

I contacted Darlene and told her to get in touch with whoever could do it and she just tells me who to contact... I haven't contacted them yet so that's why.
