Tilesets..
Is it possible we can extend the current tileset so we can add more tiles to it without using addtiledef2?
|
(I doubt it - it's already 4096 tiles (exactly 64x64, coincidentally)...I find that inside tiles are rarely actually NEEDED outside, so tiledef2 usually does the trick...besides, if you change tiledefs every level, that's another 64x64...you could hypothetically make an entire server wherein no two tiles are ever the same. But I wouldn't recommend that.)

I have already pushed this issue with Stefan, he won't do it. He wants to use addtiledef2 isntead of adding new tiles.
Which I can understand. |
Heh, well one of my staff made around 40 diff types of floors and we wanted to know if we could use them all as we are not having enough space.
And a lot of inside tiles are used outside ;o |
Well, adding new tiles would require extending the interpretation of the NW data files, as well as take more time to load all of the tiles when a lot of them are never used.
It would probably be better to make the tileset smaller, but seeing as there is already huge amounts of implementation with a 2048x1024px tileset it would be ridiculous to do that. |
You can't possibly be using all 40 types of tiles in the same level - and also using all 64x64 basic tiles at the same time - so change the ones you're NOT using. Make really small addtiledefs so you can add just the ones you need to. With the exception of problems stemming from beds, seats, grass, water, etcetera, there has to be plenty of room...and if there ain't, use the water sprites surrounded by plenty of wall, I dunno.
