Research Thread, Aetherforge

Ok, well soon all the basics and general work for the platformer server will be done, and then i want to start working on the gameplay.

So i thought, for ideas why dont i turn to the people im making it for, and ask them what they want.

ok, so when you join the server, what exactly are you hoping to find/see and do on the server?

Im accepting all ideas, items and quests anything. Feed me with information :)

Pie. Lots of em.

Come up with an inventive and original setting with compelling, unique magic.

Omini 04-22-2006 08:37 PM

Easy to understand systems (eg. taylor)

and easy to understand controls.

Basically nothing complex and hard to understand/figure out.

Keep them coming, every little thing you say helps to develop the server.

It's really not easy to work on the server, because in the back of my mind I know it's going to fail.
Graal's servers can't handle the massive amounts of data we need to send between clients and players. :/

STOP MAKING A MILLION THREADS :frown:

Weapons, items, a storyline, intricate levels, (look at classic mario games), flight ;) , more badguys, etc.

It's a very unique style for a playerworld. I guess it makes it harder to socialise on a server like this, so there should always be something happening. Something always new to look at, and timed happenings. And make it possible to stand on top of other players, like on Graal3D, purely for the fun aspect.

I don't know what exactly you're striving for here. A side scroller? If you've ever played Paper Mario, or Worms Armageddon (holy hand grenade ^^), they had some good side scrolling ideas. These would be great games to base your game on.

Smash Brothers. Custom powers. Spaceships. Teams. Exploration.

CidNight1142 04-23-2006 12:13 AM

A quality sparring system. Could create a whole new genre of graalian sparring.

SilentOne1988 04-23-2006 12:28 AM

The players don't know what they want, taking their suggestions will result in a jumbled mess of a server. Plan your server, and develop it, the players will accept it as it is, you will make them like it.

Yen: Graal handles serverside/clientside. If you want everything synced perfectly, you're better off just making a new game, because working prediction into graal is a *****.

What massive amounts of data?

Try synchronizing a baddy's movement (using a physics system) between every player in the level.

Perhaps focusing more on PvP battle rather than baddie fighting?
