So I made a level.
Well, as the title says, I made a level. Sorta went for a bit of a realistic feel. Look at it if you will, comment on it if you want to. Rate it if you want to. Its here for the public to either enjoy or scream as their eyes are burned by my terrible LATing.

Need to work on your design skills a bit, the best way to learn is by practice so you are doing fine if this is one of your first levels but it seems you got lazy in the process... just keep improving on this level editing / changing it, also keep this screen shot and different revisions screen shots so you can see how you've developed a better leveling skill :)

Not a bad start. There isn't really any visual tile errors but it is quite bland.
Try mixing up your ground detailing a little bit more instead of having big groups of the same thing. Also try not and use to many of the bold tiles like mushroom and stones.. they can take away from the level a little. Try making a small group of trees, it fills up space and gives it a nicer feel than several single ones (then add 1 or 2 single). 1 other thing.. with the water lining, try and mix the directions up a lil more.. so you don't have to many of the same tiles in a row.. and to many stones in water too.. in a small area like that maybe 2 or 3 max. 4/10 |

Actually, I sorta put the stones around the cave to show that the cave had been dug out semi-recently by non-natural methods and that often, stones don't just disappear into thin air. Maybe they even threw some into the river.
That, or I'm just lazy. |
Detail is 'packed' it seems that its only in spots. Too many rocks, in the water and out, spread stuff out more ^^ It's not a great level, but it's a start, keep it up

Simplistic, but a good start. Very simplistic though. Little to no tile errors and some very minor experimentation with some interesting stuff. I'm not going to rate it, instead just say again:a nice start, keep practicing.

Bunches of the same thing is bad, especially bunches of blocking things. Those dirt tiles are extra bad. River should be a little deeper (less shallow tiles), and have less of those rocks in it. Riverbank (grass-to-water edge) should be more randomised (looks too blocky at the moment). Make the cliff.. do.. something (symmetry in geography is rare).
You have the beginning of the right idea with using small mushrooms next to large mushrooms in clusters (on the left of the level), but you've overdone it a bit. I look forward to seeing a revision of this level and/or new levels from you. ^^ |
