Magic: Interrupted Casting

I've noticed that I cannot interrupt casts like I used to be able to.

Since magic is now so vicious I think it would even the playing field if, once again, we could interrupt spell casting with physical attacks. It seems you still can interrupt another person's spell if you attack them with magic - But what good is that if they cast first? ;)

Anyways, what I'm proposing is that we enable spell interruption with physical attacks as it was previous to the new magic system.

Hey, sorry to dissapoint you but it still does with melee and magic. The problem where you get stuck casting is still there, meaning you are stuck their for 3 seconds letting them hit you, which is costly or even fatal.

That's weird - because I was sparring with a person this morning who had very little AC and my WC could break his... and I was following around trying to attack him when he cast... but it did nothing.

I have modified it slightly, check if it's better now: when being interrupted while casting it should unfreeze you.

Yeah... not getting stunlocked.

Edit: But... now something needs to be done about our damage output.

What aspect of it...?

The aspect that a lot of my spells are now so ineffective that I would never cast them in real situation. The aspect that my damage spells are doing less damage than before the magic changes. They were only overpowered before because the hit detection was borked.

So, in short, they need to be more powerful? That sounds pretty fair, so long as they're not ridiculously over powered.

Faster or stronger. I can burn out all my spellpoints and it WILL kill someone/something, but I definitely don't live long enough to do that in a serious situation.

And... it's not so much the base effects of spells... but the additional benefits of higher magic levels (and higher spellpoint costs) are too low.

Example... a level 1 icestorm at 6sp cost can deal maybe 7-15 damage total. A level 43 icestorm at 27 sp cost can deal 25-60 damage.

Level 1: 1.16 - 2.5 damage per spellpoint.
At ~3 second cast time, that is .38 - .83 damage per second.

Level 43: .93 - 2.2 damage per spellpoint.
At ~3 second cast time, that is 8.33 - 20 damage per second.

This is considering that there are no interupts and all spells hit.
At level 35 physique and 22 strength, I can swing a regular unprepared sword (not factoring in resistances) at around 15-25 damage per second (only an estimate due to high range of damages).

If they make spell casting quicker it would totally make interuptable casting pointless.

MasterNuke 03-20-2006 11:09 PM

Sorry... was busy going off topic.
If you can be hit more than once per second, you can be interupted even with faster casting.

I like this idea.

It's rather annoying because I can't kill a wolf(level 4? 6?) in one shot with icestorm(level 43) even though it freakin walks faster than my spell so I miss all the time AND it's not dealing enough damage to kill it anyway. Should I be wasting 50+ spellpoints to kill something more than 30 levels under me?
