Vertical Blank Anomaly
Just now, I noticed that I keep getting periodic lag on all servers, where everything will freeze for a split second, and then continue until about 3 seconds later, when it will do it again and repeat.
I'm using an X800XT, so I know that video lag shouldn't be a problem. So, after fiddling around with my card's settings, turning Anisotropic and Antialiasing all the way down, I figured that that wasn't it. I also run on my school's connection in the forms, which is T1, so I figured that that wasn't the problem either. So, I started to mess around in Graal's settings, and for laughs, I tried turning on vertical blank to see if that was it. However, I wasn't laughing. Apparently, there's something slightly imperfect about the synching of drawn frames. (If vertical blank has anything to do with vsynch seen in various other programs.) There's a tiny increment of time, it seems, where a few frames are not synched correctly, and it causes a brief pause. The program has been running smoothly since vertical blank has been turned on. Anyone else noticed this? |
