ATTENTION STEFAN RC2 Bug FIXED

I've figured out the RC2 bug , it has to do with the way your encrypting the passwords in the reg. I took screen shots of a clean install of Graal and RC2. I first ran RC2 and took a screen shot of the reg (see first picture) then i got a copy of rc1 and ran it, i noticed a slight change in the encryption of the password (see picture 2) after that i ran rc2 again and it worked perfectly and the same string was there as the password from rc one once i checked the reg again

my thoughts are it must be something to do with the encryption of first time users inputed into the rc.

But ether way theres your problem. Hope it helps ya out.

P.S. I've already changed my password before posting this =p

What bug is fixed?

I think he possibly means the problem with the "Illegal data" problem.

What illegal data one?
RC2 uses better encoding for the password, like v4 does. It's not compatible to the old RC password encoding I guess. It doesn't have any impact on the server connection though.

when you clean install graal and launch the new rc for the first time and try to connect to a server it will say illegal data from connection and disconnect you right away. BUT if you run rc1 first enter your password and connect then close that out and launch RC2 (note the password encryption from rc1 still stays in the reg i suppose RC2 only writes to the reg if the password field is changed), so the password will still appear in the password field box and then connect with RC2 without changing the password field at all and it'll work fine, the only thing i can think of is that the new encryption is not handled by the playerworld servers yet in terms of the remote control.

What do you think Stefan?

There shouldn't be any problems when you have never installed or started RC1 before, that will not change how the data is sent to the server. Also I have never had similar problems, still would need some more information about the problem if there is one (which server, account etc.).

I'd just like to report that I had the exact same problem as Sern here, and his method fixed it.

- New computer (Windows XP)
- Installed Graal 4, then later downloaded the RC package
- Tried to connect to playerworld ProjectR with RC (RemoteControl2.exe) using account Silent, recieved this error: Illegal characters in the outgoing data detected!
- Recieved old RC (RemoteControl.exe) from a friend and logged on successfully with that
- Logged out with old RC and logged in successfully with RemoteControl2.exe

Hmmm And when you change the password manually again in the RC2 start window, does it give the error again ?

Yes, it does (made it blank, tried to open serverlist and got incorrect password error, put in proper password again, tried to connect to ProjectR and got the illegal characters error)

Admins 02-28-2006 11:39 PM

Hmmm does it contain special characters?
May be you can make a test, when you type your password as nickname, connect to the serverlist, close the RC, start the RC again, is the password correctly displayed in the nickname field or is some character missing ?

My other account DarkFireXZ3 gets that when it's just connected for a while, i'll get up come back and it'll be saying 'Illegal characters in the outgoing data detected!' doesn't matter to me though that account will be out of gold soon although this account also does it frequently, and gives the message 'the password is wrong' or somewhere close to it.

Sounds like when it tries to decrypt an old password it gets junk binary data (decryption failed)... which then gets sent to the server on connect, which then gets you booted for bad data.

No, the problem is that the GTK text field not necessary filters out the newline character (which is weird), and the RC2 didn't expect newline characters in the password. It has been fixed though, update it via v4 update tab.
