New Additions

Graal Kingdoms has been updated today:
- More markers on the main map (for dungeon etc.)
- Fireballs and similar spells fly through the caster now
- Player-ran shops are displayed with a different icon now on the map, all houses that were opened with the /lockdooropen command
- The hit-functions have been moved to script, so that we can completely customize them; if you see problems with the new hit code then please tell us; also there might be too many messages right now when hitting peaceful players or so, will fix that soon
- Fixed minecarts

PS: some people also reported that the glitching of item gfx has been fixed, although we have not tested that yet (so it might not be completely be fixed)

Well, personally, I can't glitch anymore. I'm tired of the ugly green CoMP and want to be able to glitch it to my Sorcerer's cape :(!

Felix_Xenophobe 02-03-2006 09:29 PM

Alot of other people cant glitch either.

=(

CidNight1142 02-03-2006 09:53 PM

I had more trouble with it but was able to pull it off...sort of. The price of the demon shield is gonna skyrocket again, watch out!

Googi 02-03-2006 10:30 PM

How do you "accidently" fix glitching?

Draenin 02-03-2006 11:22 PM

Very nice update. Hopefully there'll be a nice little rebirth in shop usage.

ReBorn_Spirit 02-03-2006 11:23 PM

GOOD, finally we can tell who is wearing what, and there isn't a reason to "Glitch" someones item just so you can try and scam it now.

Draenin 02-03-2006 11:23 PM

Hey, but uh... We should have a thread for spell gfx submissions. :}

ReBorn_Spirit 02-03-2006 11:24 PM

Technically thats a suggestions idea.

Draenin 02-03-2006 11:27 PM

Technically, it's not. It's more like something that belongs in the graphics forum. Knowing the folks there, they'll have it all ready in no time. ;]

Waltz5 02-03-2006 11:32 PM

Great... now everyone on the server looks the same and ugly.

Draenin 02-03-2006 11:33 PM

Wanna cry about it?

Eventually people on this game need to learn to value functionality over prettyness.

protozero 02-03-2006 11:40 PM

But c'mon, some items on this game are seriously ugly.

Draenin 02-03-2006 11:40 PM

A lot of the people holardng the pretty items are uglier, I've heard.

No, we shouldn't.

"Prettyness" isn't as big of a problem as everyone looking the same.

Draenin 02-03-2006 11:56 PM

Kay. Make it your crusade, then.

Hey you, Stefan said in another thread spells will be made using the particle engine.

research mate.

Last time I checked I didn't have the power to distribute some new items with new GFX so there is a good variety for players to choose from.

ReBorn_Spirit 02-04-2006 02:52 AM

Particles huh, how about when the player doesnt or cannot use the high end 3D accelerator options? I don't know all that much about Version 4, but in Version 2, disabling D3D made a big difference in alot of places like maps and the haunted house.

Admins 02-04-2006 03:36 AM

In the next Graal version there will be options for turning certain effects off (script based), but things you need to see will still be displayed. The spells use particle effects, so they will take less CPU ressources. Also they will not stay that long so possibly there will be less graphics to display. The lights in the dungeons eventually lag that much for some people because they are quite stretched.

Draenin 02-04-2006 04:11 AM

What about the physical aspects of the spells, though? For example, magic bullet uses a small orb graphic so that you can se the center of the actual object. Flaming aura uses a small series of flame graphics. Icestorm uses small clusters of icicles. Summon Elemental spells summon entities that are also comprised of an image. It'd be a royal pain to try and make different elementals using particle effects.

Admins 02-04-2006 05:07 AM

The elementals already work fine so we are not planning to modify them right now, although we could add some particle effect to make them look better

ReBorn_Spirit 02-04-2006 06:59 AM

The spell timings are fine allready. The life on the Avatar wasn't even enough as it was, players lay waist to it. The lords are so weak I've seen people at level 7 killing these things. Not to mention when a lord does spawn, it stands there and does nothing. These lords are pathetic, atleast last time they could dodge SOME of the spells, right now you can just stand out of its site and kill it.

The disabling of the spell targeting system has disabled all the magic monsters in immense, that means I could be abusing that bug right now and leveling up. But I'm not going to do that, I have work to do.

The GK NPC server would start 25 time, Grirahan finally got it to run again after that many attempts. Maybe you should start testing these new features a bit more on debug.

Googi 02-04-2006 07:17 AM

Yeah, how is it the staff keep giving us all this stuff we don't want but event cloaks still haven't been released?

The elementals are all the same. There's no difference in them except colors.

cutelilmurderer 02-04-2006 08:49 AM

Glitching items was always wrong. I don't see how anyone can honestly think that exploiting any kind of glitch is alright, especially since it is a severe violation of the terms of service.

That aside though, I've earned my items and to have someone else borrow a hat and wear and unwear it until it sticks is such and obvious exploitation of the game engine. I'm glad it's gone and glad that you people are going to actually have to earn some decent items instead of "glitching" them. I don't want to sound mean but the event coins and unrecycled items sets serve a purpose. If you truly want something better, do the quests or find a new hat. I saw someone today using a bronze helmet. No one has used that helmet in about two years until three days ago. This to me is truly a sign of exploration gone awry. When was the last time anyone saw a Zormite blade used? Or a diamond blade? Why not? They are among the most powerful weapons in the game... all of the weapons and items are accessable to everyone at any time if someone would just use the given resources.

I'm going to make a Broadsword with alchemy, cya later. <----Optimism.

Not really, anymore.

Quests get you Gold Keys, not stuff that changes your appearance. Just your stats.

Wrong.

Wrong again.

awsome..

You probably don't need to wear all those items when walking around in Bomboria ?

About the crash earlier today: that already happened with the previous version of the npcserver, it seems some player is bugged and causes it to crash, running it in debugger to find the problem, sorry for the restart problems.

You really don't have to wear everything unless you wanna kill monsters and such, but it's very annoying that when you wanna wear your armor, you look EXACTLY like most of the other players... What happened to the days where you could CUSTOMIZE how your character looked and everyone else looked different. People were glitching because they can customize they're character more and have it look more like they want it to.

Darklux 02-04-2006 02:26 PM

I love that these glitching loosers lost their outward appeareance.

I hope the price of nice lookin items will rise alot now.

Yeah, cause trying to not look like everyone else makes you a loser .

Also, items are WAY too overpriced as it is already, we really don't need them going UP in value.

I hope that you perish underneath a flaming pile of those even more expensive items.

Seriously. No.

xAndrewx 02-09-2006 10:45 AM

Items shouldn't need to be glitched, if you don't like how you look, get the items that make you look better if you care more on your appearence than the effects...

nullify 02-16-2006 10:08 AM

It's strange, I can kill anything I come across with a sharp edge and -5 ac. Brutals, Immenses, etc.

Oh yes, and Draenin, can we be a larger hypocrite? You used to glitch my items all the time before you got yourself scammed.

'Scuse me, but my account was stolen. I wasn't scammed. I messed with items to get a different appearance available, but I often forgot stuff was glitched on, and wound up getting rid of the effect accidentally in the next five minutes. So I eventually learned to deal with changing my appearance just by using the items I have, which I am still doing today. So, the point still stands that I think gfx should be improved upon, and people should work with the items they have to achieve different interesting looks.
