What DO YOU want?
Well, I was wondering, now Soakath is dead and all, about starting my own off-genre project, where anything goes, and since I have no idea what other people actually want to see on a Classic server, I thought I'd might post a thread about it.
So, what would you like to see on a Classic playerworld? Reasonable, and sensible answers please. |
Dont have something "where anything goes" you'll end up like that playerworld with 3 worlds which is a bit weird if you ask me, take ideas and put them into an overall idea - but set yourself limitations.
|
Aye, I didn't mean it like that. I have limitations, I just haven't thought them out accurately yet.

Never thought of posting and seeing what the players want, Everyone, post what you would like to see on an overworld, or what you would like as an overworld as a whole.
Me personally, id like to play a really well made and designed RPG Server, not like GK, but really pixeled tiles, and nice avatars. Most probably in the style neorice does his work. Just a REALLY good quality RPG, which so far you cant see anywhere on graal, no offense, but GK is hardly thought out, Items, Boats, A few kingdoms, level, random little things, nothing really interesting there. But everyone trys to make RPG servers now, and one thing ive noticed is that the development community of graal has been split with people wanting to make their own server, so theres like 2 per server :P Personally, i think someone like Stefan should assign all his globals and some random graal developers to make a seriously well designed server. |
Why don't you do a server based off the concept of a multiverse. Like do 4 types of dimensions with their own setting. All rather small for developmental reasons and they could expand as like towns or something.
You could have a Forest/Overgrown city/dimension, underwater dimension, stone age dimension and a "19th centuary london" kind of city/dimension. You can wright some back stories on each dimension and have all of the npcs(characters) return in all of the dimensions but in other lives. You can simply link them all by quests and make the server revolve about Questing in diffrent dimensions. You could have baddies in each dimension wich match the scenery. You could do it withouth "rpg stats" so leveling. But with something like for everything the player kills items are drops. Depending on how rich the player is he/she can buy better items. For server expansions you could release a new dimension over time or something alike. Anyhow I know that this isn't a "classic" genre but making a "classic" server is such a dumb thing. I mean graal is just a "game" engine. People should stop using default stuff and take a leap into the unkown. If you'd actualy manage to make a server like it could be a bit success. Anyhow if you might do a server look into the more developed kind of games such as Ragnarok, a nice style and the diffrent "genres/towns" inside of it all match. Codein you could do better than the "easy" classic stuff >.< |
I know, but I'm taking baby steps again instead of jumping in at the deep end, like I did. Starting off with a nice, flowing project, etc.

Yes, I would also like to see an RPG, but only if it is done with high high high quality. Otherwise, just stick with Classic ideas. Quests, lots of player-made content, and a lot of updates that you as a staffmember work hard for, as well as a variety of npcs and a thorough overworld. (One thing that gets me annoyed is a massive overworld with very little places to go.)
When Okiesmokie and I worked on UN together (*Insert thematic clash of lightning*) we worked on the schematics of a basic RPG that we had planned to implement on UN. However, stuff happened, the project got scrapped. Okie is working on it again on his own server, Thamhic. (Although right now, stuck at a shortage of GATs.) However, it is not so much a lack of scripting of an RPG that kills player servers, it's lack of design to the RPG fundamentals itself. Sure, you can have a wonderful RPG script, but if you don't think it out to where it actually makes a balanced and playable game, you get an RPG idea that doesn't allow anyone any flexibility. |
Yeah, well said, i also feel that Codein has done the correct thing, by posting asking what players want, instead of throwing in an idea of what he may, or think players, want.
Instead, he posted this, showing hes doing Project Research, so he is obviously aiming to create a good server, and want players to enjoy every bit of it, i think its a good move. So by posting, we are actually helping something we as individuals will enjoy, post ideas, see them made and used. Im a dream world, wed all work together and make one awesome server, but majority of graal players are power hungry and want their own server. I just got a sort of Mario feeling :O |
The ideas I am looking for are fun things to do. What you would entertain you on a playerworld? What was your addiction to the old playerworlds? What do you love best about them?
That sort of thing. Also, just general ideas to what, in your opinion, would make a playerworld better. |
Also, I've started work on an overworld. Me and Luc should have the starting town (Convienently called Main Village) done soon!
I'm still on the look out for your ideas, and your desires in a playerworld. Keep posting them, please :) |
Yep! Well, Im not sure if we'll determine with the name 'Main Village' but its baby steps right?
Im sorta with Tom. Though, Im completely useless with NPC scripting so It'd be nice to have a NAT Team. We've got some good ideas though. Anyway, maybe we should go with the quests idea. But jazz it up a bit more instead of going for the stereotypical graal classic style. Also I think the classic tileset should be pixelated and done up more, but I think James said he was working on that. Anyhow. I agree with James totally. If we do try fire at our exaggerated ideas we're only gonna find ourselves with empty bullet shells on the floor because we got nothing to support our 'Baby Steps' on. It was an intention to create a dynamic classic overworld which ALWAYS had something to do. Unlike UN, you get up to Level 3 Sword,Glove, shield and 13 hearts and just find yourself PKin' trials in TCPK. Even if the player did complete the quests we're going to provide activities which will show a little more competition. Also quests will be constantly updated. I mean, how the idea of a 'Quest Log'. That'd be cool. |
