New Updates: For keeping doors open and for kingdom items

In the last few days we have added following:
- fixed a bug that crashed Graal Kingdoms (no crash since then)
- when you are inside your player house you can open the door and type /lockdooropen, then the door will stay open even if the server restarts or whatever, for closing it again just close it normally; this is good for player-ran shops
- we can now restict the use of certain items to single kingdoms or accounts, making it possible to add items which can only be applied by members of one kingdom (e.g. weapons or armour); those items cannot be traded via trade-tables or player-to-player trading
- modified the handling of messages (on the right side) so that the display is faster and is not producing an error from time to time
- when using player-to-player trading (drop an item on someone else) then the right-click-on-item is working again and is displaying the stats of the item, so that the buyer can verify that it is the good item

About existing 'kingdom' items: Those were not locked to a kingdom and we probably cannot punish the people who got them somehow, so the new kingdom-lock will probably be used only for new items.

Finally some good news!

Draenin 01-25-2006 05:26 PM

This update is sweet.

Craigus 01-25-2006 05:38 PM

Nice update! I hope the new kingdom items with the lock don't have good stats, would be sad to see people joining kingdoms for the items the kingdom has.

Draenin 01-25-2006 05:41 PM

Who knows, with a little luck we might get full gear to balance out the kingdoms soon.

dNeonb 01-25-2006 05:50 PM

Well, I don't think we give the items out all at once.

Some nice events kingdom vs. kingdom to fight for the stats could be funny.

Chris 01-25-2006 06:16 PM

I was a little worried for a moment. I was worried that some of my items wouldn't work for me since I'm not in those kingdoms. But Stefan came and saved the day! ^^

CidNight1142 01-25-2006 08:49 PM

Wow, really great updates! Thanks Stefan. The open door fix is great, shops can stay open at all times now! Also, consider the dying idea for kingdom cloaks. Dye your CoMP to look like your kingdom colors, this will seriously solve the issue of losing those important stats in kingdom battles etc. (An effective kingdom mode will obviously also solve this issue)

But can they be dropped?

Yes they can be dropped, otherwise you would need to carry all those kingdom / personal items with you all the time.

Draenin 01-26-2006 04:20 AM

If they can be dropped, why would you disable them from trade tables and player-to-player trading? It should be strictly limited to your inventory. When you go on tag, they should temporarily appear in your inventory and have a reduced weight, so that the burden of carrying them isn't that great. When you go off tag, they dissapear, just like if you were to try to drop god armor.

And Bjorn,

That's one of the most wicked and ill-thought-out statements I've ever heard on Kingdoms.

Why not? Think about it. Kingdom vs. Kingdom fights for the stats of kingdomitems, what's wrong about it? Have some fun and work for the things you want to have. It was just the principle of the idea. You never heared the full one, how it should work etc., did you? No, you didn't.
Maybe you think it's better give the items out all at one?

Just for you to know. This place here is the forum and not the Graal Kingdoms server.

So they still can be traded, so the system hasn't solved anything... :frown:

Its a solution that non members can't use the items, so the items are not valuable for others. Perhaps we can make it, that only kingdom members can pick them up.

Well, if one kingdom is better then all the others, they get all the stats.

No, they can't if the idea will stay the way it is at this point of time.

That would really be the best option. Make them like event cubes, where they cant be picked up by certain people (in this case, all those w/o the appropriate kingdom tag)

Hmmm. Maybe the fact that you are trying to get your jollies out of kingdom members fighting over stat points.

Not everyone thinks that fighting is a fun thing to do anymore. If you want a good example, look at the ratio of pmoders to bmoders. And if there's an idea I haven't heard, why don't you clearly make it known to everyone, then?

You know, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I should be one of the people to know how the forum works pretty well. Also, this is the forum section for Graal Kingdoms, Bjorn. It is for the server. Not for...

Nevermind it.

I assume the only think you can imagine if you hear the word "fight" is some giant battle with swords where people get killed. Well, at least it sounds like that. :whatever:
I'm thinking more about quests, minigames (Matris, Breakout, ...), special labyrinths, hockey and football matches, etc.

Draenin 01-27-2006 09:48 PM

Instead of saying 'fight for stats,' use the word compete. Competition implies good sportsmanship, and is a lot cleaner.

Even still, I fail to see how noble kingdoms playing football for leet gear is much better.

In the end, it all just hinders roleplaying.

I agree. I may be in the horrid minority, but I believe new kingdom items should be devoid of stats.

Items should have stats.
Noone ever say the stats will be very high.

Emily_Cruddas 01-28-2006 01:46 AM

I'm sure folks would like having stats on a kingdom item, but i really would like to start focusing more on how to RP better now and not just stats anymore, it may not be the reason, or it could, but kingdom items were made probably because one person who was in charge wanted to outdo the other leaders and made something with desireable stats (the stats were also grossly high making their item overpowered) and it carried on from there.

Dustari and samurai mainly have boots that add lots of stats, and the recent pirate boots i see have high stats also, if you need stats on kingdom items think outside the box for a minute, any kingdom shield, boots or whatever WILL be a worthy item to own, but instead of having ONLY good stats make a bad stat to them also, such as dex-2 or something similar to the tower shield, it's a great and rare shield but it was probably the ONLY item i admire because it's balanced.

So my suggestion would be add both good stats and bad stats to future items, there are more than enough items without negetive stats already, or just DON'T add stats since kingdoms should try to RP more and not worry about who can own who.

Draenin 01-28-2006 09:24 AM

We really shouldn't have to compete for stats. They should be put on items to fit the kingdom.

You'd think that the staff would have learned that by now, considering what has happened the past. I'll give an example:

When all players was promised capes, they were happy, cause they were told they were for looks, NOT stats. Yet, the staff makes them ridicoulously expensive and PUTS stats on them.

Will you ever learn?

ReBorn_Spirit 01-28-2006 10:46 AM

Hey, who is to say someone won't pick up a kingdom item and sell it off for the money. Or destroy it simply because they dont like kingdom only items.
