Half-complete level

1 Attachment(s)
Made with the n-pulse tileset (i originally made and scripted this level in the classic tileset, but it looked horrible).

It's half complete, but before I go on, I want some constructive criticism and what I should place in the bottom half. And i dont just want people telling me that it's filled with tile errors - I know it is, i'm trying my best to fix them.

What I intend to script on this level:
Day/Night System with displayed time underneath stats
Housing System
Reputation System (wheras having reputation with certain people by running errands will reduce/increase the cost of things/quest rewards for you)
A RP chat system that negates the current text-above-head system

Eww, npc trees, fix that, and then maybe somone will grade your level. I can insure you right now, lots of bad comments are going to be "LOL NPC TREES"

The houses and stuff around it is nice, but itsn't extraordinary. Thats the only thing I can say, is get rid of the NPC trees, and use the tileset ones, and randomize it a bit, not strait lines of trees.

LOL NPC TREES!

Seriously though that was the first thing I noticed. Here are some other things I noticed:
  • The door used as a fence gate looks out of place.
  • Some of the horizontal fences are missing their shadows.
  • The dirt to the right of that fence is very plain, add some different dirt tiles (There are three) and perhaps a stone.
  • I don't understand the tree that's inside the house... It doesn't sit well with me.
  • The house on the far left looks wonky... The left half is on stilts, but the right halve's roof is overlaping the left's.
  • On the left most house here's a pesky green bit in the roof's corner. An image could quickly be made to fix this. I'm sure N-Pulse has one floating around too.
  • You've forgotten the tops of the door jambs on the wooden rooved houses. The red roofed house has the top, but the others dont. If you used an image for the top of the door jamb on the leftmost house you could overlap it over the grass and it might look cool.

As for what you could put in the lower half... Perhaps some farming fields? Put some sort of crop in there, that would look neat.

I really like the little bit between the houses with the barrels and the chest and stuff. Keep it up.

As obviously said before, the tree's need working on, im not really a great LAT, but i can try my best to help you improve from an artist perspective :P

Tree's are organic, and if you want it to appear as though it's by or in the middle of a forest, you dont want them all in a perfect line, overlapping each other. So maybe make the trees shapes using the tiles, and if you cant use tiles to create the edges, use the images and add them to the edges. :) " Dont think i explained it too well :("

The houses are quite interesting, remind me of little hobbits for some reason, i would'nt put them in a line like that, move one a bit down, one a bit up, and so on.

It's pretty hard giving crits to a level thats not finished xD

Ill stop my post here until someone else posts, i dont want to drag on about my none-sense rubbish :P

::bunch the grass patch things together in areas:: Test.

Raeiphon 01-14-2006 05:56 PM

Actually, I was thinking of making it hobbitish, this level is mainly a test of my NAT skills (Hoyt's been teaching me) and I cant work on a level that looks like crap, this is pretty damn close but apparently it isnt, so i'm happy.

Why post a half level, you're now not going to finish it either?
Anyway, it's ugly.

Thats exactly what I didnt want to hear.

Keep your abrasive crap off here and at Era, where it belongs k?

xAndrewx 01-14-2006 06:35 PM

No, the level isn't nice. It doesn't make sense either, what would you like for me to do? Lie and tell it's great?

The tree's are NPCs, don't use them
The tree 'inside' the house doesn't make sense, remove it.
You've also placed another house on sticks. o-O [edit]
Detail started nice, but it's also empty. I'd like for you to finish the level and then post it, to see if you're good at taking C+C.

Maybe he wanted some input before he continued? Myself and others have already given him some pointers... If he hadn't come here now he would've had to fix everything in an entire level, rather than fixing it in half, and just following the pointers when creating the rest.

All the fellow wanted was some help on his level. If you're going to be a prick, don't come here.

xAndrewx 01-14-2006 06:37 PM

Read my other post.

Raeiphon 01-14-2006 06:42 PM

And your CC is useless, because it's been pointed out. The majority of it at least. I'll work on the detail, I'm not quite sure what the ground needs though. I'm using 1x2 of the first tileset and some leafish thingy, should I add random rocks and things? I want an environmental aspect of this level.

xAndrewx 01-14-2006 06:44 PM

Add what you think looks good, if it's not I'm sure people will tell you.

Raeiphon 01-14-2006 06:46 PM

Point duely noted.

(on this community at least :P)

At least you can guarantee honesty on here.

xAndrewx 01-14-2006 06:50 PM

For posting my opinion on a level, I'm a jerk?
Great, I see how that works.

The man asked for help with his level and all you gave him was "Why did you even post that? It's sucks."

Yes. That makes you a jerk.

xAndrewx 01-14-2006 06:56 PM

You can have your opinion, I'm not really bothered what you or anyone else think of me.
I answerd half of his question, and the other half in another post.

Raeiphon 01-15-2006 05:47 AM

Amazing, Two wonderful opinions on my level along the track and you come and totally throw it off topic. How on earth am I meant to get feedback on something in this community without being flamed at?

Just leave it be.

Have you worked on that level anymore? I'd like to see what you've come up with so far.

petro1212 01-21-2006 03:08 PM

I'm not even reading what you posted there, if your going to do a level take the decentcy to tile the tree's. This is pure blasphamy... *calls 1800-devine-retribution* smight him.. almighty smighter =o!
