Graal Editor v.2.0

Hello,

I'm not sure if it exists or not but the REALLY need to make a editor that can read GS2. It'll also be neat if they could zoom the level in or out, instead of scrolling (mouse wheel) and when they do update it in the commands description box they should put GS1 with every command then with a BIG and hard to unotice GS2 with :: Do not mix these commands with GS1 :: Then list all the current GS2 commands and when they add more it ""Should"" update by itself like Graal v4 does.

xAndrewx 01-03-2006 09:31 PM

You should really use the 'search' function. You'd learn quite alot.

jake13jake 01-03-2006 09:45 PM

It would be nice if you could place npcs to the nearest 1/2 tile... since that's what the nw syntax will accept as a round.

Angel_Light 01-04-2006 01:05 AM

search function? XD

i know what search is i was just laughing becuase theres nothing on the forums about editor v.2, yes i had researched it many time

Inverness 01-06-2006 01:50 AM

An editor that recognizes and supports GS2 would be useful.
Most of the people in this forum annoy me with their ignorance of a way to say things nicely to others, i'm not speaking to Angel_Light when I say this.

Angel_Light 01-06-2006 10:37 PM

How much work would to take to make a new one

OasaTor_PK 01-06-2006 11:50 PM

Whats with you and the obsession with V2 OMG LEL LEMME BETA TEST IM A FKING LOSER LAWL LOWLWOFWLSLBLBLSDBDLBDLKDBLKL.

How about you shut the hell up. You are the kind of people who I hate and go around and post random crap that nobody cares about. You know there are people on this forum who are wondering about v2 graal editor like myself.

And I don't get how you tried to "mock" him in a context that he never was in. Posting 2 threads about 2 SEPERATE programs does not make it an obsession.

Oh yeah and go away.

Well... I'm betting Stefan will take some stuff that he already put in his new RC. I'm also betting that he might use part of his online editor. I'm hoping that he makes some extra functionality to the editor too, and I'm hoping that he makes it open source.

o-o'
tilex + 16 * tiley

I think..

Alot can be derived from how a game's editor works. That would feed Graal spinoffs.

All I have to say is
"Lol Noob"

Ill tell you this, once stefan says "V2 Editor is out for beta testing to certain individuals" Angel_Light is going to be LOL PICK ME I WANA BETA TEST LEL WATZ IT DO LELWE.

Now, id rather not continue to flame. I am waiting for v2 editor, but hes obsessed :[

sorry sir, may I have another?

Also, angel, when you said "How Long will it take" I believe it will take a fair bit of time, because I am pretty sure stefan is re-writing everything from ruby to C++ or something like that. :]

For the most part, only if you put testing mode in the same exe would that be a problem. Other than that it would probably just be the terrain drawing and the script parser you might want to worry about. A classic server graal editor wouldn't reveal too much.

Delphi, not Ruby xD

The script parser is the big one. The reason I said 'lol?' is because graal has been steering far away from the whole free/opensource thing for the past few years, I don't think they'll take a direction the other way any time soon.

But that doesn't mean you can't release part of it as open source :P

Angel_Light 01-08-2006 12:46 AM

I'm not obcessed, I just hate it when I use GS2 and it doesnt read it

Inverness 01-08-2006 04:32 AM

I'd rather the RC be open source, that way Stefan would only need to provide the ways to get information (like how sendtext() and requesttext() does inside Graal) (the amount you could get depending on your supplied account and password) and we would make the ways to manipulate it.

Admins 01-08-2006 05:30 AM

I don't see a problem with the offline level editor, it is for tile editing, and npc scripts shouldn't be added by level makers anyway, except adding a 'join myclass;' or setting the look of the npc.
The online level editor will be worked on soon, we have a lot of plans for that (including a map generator, online script editing, GUI editor, monster placer).

Angel_Light 01-08-2006 07:10 AM

The only problem with the offline editor is the NPC. I usually test my NPC offline before online.Bfore GS2 came around and I just was thinking it would be nice if the ditor would read GS2 commands

Read what Stefan posted. They are working on an online editor to do all the scriptwork/npc placing.

Stefan, what about showcharacter NPCs? light effects? That's something I really really want my tilers to be able to do. In addition, one of my tilers keeps screwing up join("classname"); because he keeps getting errors and thinking it's wrong. oyy...

It's also quite annoying, graal has a low enough scripter population these days as it is. If scripters can't practice or learn offline, they'll never be much trusted to work online. The only advantage the new scripting engine has that would possibly give new scripters a chance is it's similarities in syntax to C++ and Java.

In addition, I, myself, do tiling, script work, graphics, the whole works. It's a pain and a possibility that one could seriously screw something up with a simple and common mistake in a script online. You know how we all make stupid mistakes, right? Like when you accidentally screwed up all the server names today. It's just a stupid mistake that was unintended but nevertheless happened.

Admins 01-08-2006 09:50 PM

Please use join classname; not some escaped-apostrophes stuff please, if the script just contains that one single command.
Level makers should not add new scripts to the levels, just works better when you always use classes. Showcharacter-npcs and light effects can also be done easily in old script so its not a problem.

yea, you got me on lights. But I would still like to change the behavior of the showcharacter npcs that my level makers put in, and that's a lot easier done in gs2. I am not a good gs1 scripter at all.

Then do it in gs2 offline, and upload it. I don't really see what the huge deal is.

I guess I'll make some predefined NPC syntaxes then.

Angel_Light 01-10-2006 02:45 AM

Offline doesnt read GS2. ._.

Inverness 01-10-2006 02:47 AM

It just pisses me off how unorganized Aeon is with most of their stuff, it would be worse if I hadn't come along :O.
Anyways I do believe an online level editor would be neat and you would be able to customize it too.

Angel_Light 01-10-2006 02:56 AM

I think I founda pic of it. (Online editor)

What in your head gave you the idea that the screenshot is of an 'online' editor. I'm pretty certain the online editor will use Gui Controls, and they don't look like that.

Warcaptain 01-11-2006 03:30 AM

the deal

The only problem with this (and please dont take this offensively) that it really isnt fair to those who don't have/want to buy a playerworld yet.

If a new player wanted to learn how to use GS2 and NPC-Server he/she would have to spend at least $119.00 USD (even more once the X-Mas special wears off) to do that. It's not really right (or fair) to people who want to learn. I heard someone say something about steering away from opensource in this thread; with the way the editor is now its not only steering away, its in the opposite direction. Unfortunately you not only have to pay to play/develope, you also have to pay to learn. I think if there was an adequite offline editor that had some sort of NPC-Server like thing built into it (which really wouldn't demand that much, because it would not have to have even half of its functionality.) and support for GS2, I think you would see a 'baby boom' of new developers. This boom in developmental workers would be the best thing that ever happened to Graal, moreso even than bomys.

Again, please take no offense to this Stefan (and unixmad) because none is intended.

It isn't crossplatform. ;)

I still think that a crossplatform offline level editor should be maintained. A lot of people have laptops and would like to be able to design levels (like they have been able to in the past) without being required to be online to do so.

Either way, though, on behalf of Graal2001 and its staff, I hope we can see some progress on any mac-usable level editor soon.

Angel_Light 01-11-2006 03:49 AM

I have a question about the online editor. Will be able to still read GS1? I mean GS2 is great and all but, don't forget your roots.

The past tile editors are quite less functional, lmao, but fun to look at. If the tile editors aren't supposed to have the functionality of scripting, maybe you should disable all of that and enable only predefined scripts?

The first one is the NW editor, which was actually pretty fun to use.. especially since it uhmmm used layers? Yeah, thats great.
