Sniper

I think this method for a sniper would work swimmingly.

2 handed, S shoot, D brings up a sniping scope. Shows the scope in the bottom right hand corner. You are immobile when looking through the scope. Instead of that stupid UN method. You guide the vision of what the scope is looking at with the arrow keys. In other words. Hit D, a circle comes up with what the sniper scope is looking at. Move around the map with arrow keys. S to pop a cap in someone's head.

Fortunately this method let's you see your character AND who you are aiming at through the scope. After each shot even the scope turns immobile, for around 1 second. Thus the player noticing he is shot at if you miss. A red dot shows whether you are being shot at. I would make this quite expensive as this is the gun people have been waiting for. Anyway that's my 2 cents of how it should works.
Those of you who have played "Second Sight" should know what I'm talking about.

I said read my sniper thread. >_<

That would work wonders, except I think it'd be more balanced if it moved 1 screen toward where your aiming at or X tiles to where you aiming at so you can be killed by people in your screen seeing as sniper isn't meant to be close range.

Well, it says in my thread that you can see "Yourself" AND what the scope is looking at. Seeing as the scope appears in the bottom right hand corner.

I know but someone could just crawl up to you w/o being seen and mortar you...they dont even have to be that close to mortar you either.

You will be quick enough to notice big machine noise, no?
Or another bonus is SEEING the mortar rockets. ;P

Ya, I guess.....

For the control of the scope, wouldnt the mouse be more efficient? It would be faster than keys, but for that reason it would be harder to steady on a person, especially someone moving, I think using arrow keys would be a little harder to move... maybe both would be available?

Sure why not?

MisterMastermind 12-26-2005 05:58 AM

Also instead of being head shot is instant kill, (players now have huuuuuuggge heads) A heart shot might be better...

Vierdman 12-26-2005 06:36 AM

I agree with MisterMastermind's idea to move the screen forward an amount, because the sniper is a long range weapon... but how long of range should it be? and how far should the screen move forward, or instead when using the scope, should it allow the screen to move/scroll for farther away targets?

It can go to any range. The damage depends on the range you are shooting at the target from.

Big head might look a little funny. Heart shot sounds good though.

why is this the only weapon that counts for head/body shots? I think maybe it should have a set damage, like say 100, cause then people might want other guns like that too, and I doubt anyone wants to rewrite all of them

I said it depends on the range of the shot you make. x_x
