Logs

In the history of a PM I think they should add the players account. For example:

Quote:

WanDaMan:!Wan (Tux) (23/09/2005 22:31:03)
I was on UN yesterday and this person called me a German *******. I went to our history and copied what he had said and send it to a GP. The GP asked for his account name, upon asking the individual had logged offline so I couldn't get it >_<

It'll come in handy for stuff like this

Seems like it'd be redundant to add both the account name and nickname to every message in history like that. It might be nice if the account name was inserted just once at the beginning of the conversation after the log is loaded so that it can be copied.

For example:
Quote:

Conversation between Ibonic (unknown) and Stefan (dnd)

unknown (12/14/2005 7:17:33 PM):
fake!
dnd (12/14/2005 7:16:00 PM):
i didn't really type this
Although I see there could be a slight problem if both are using the same nickname. Hmm, "You" and "Opposite" could be used even while online maybe?

Quote:

Conversation between Ibonic:unknown (You) and Stefan:dnd (Opposite)

You (12/14/2005 7:17:33 PM):
fake!
Opposite (12/14/2005 7:16:00 PM):
i didn't really type this
Nah, I don't like that.

Just account names?

Quote:

Conversation between unknown (*Ibonic) and dnd (*Stefan)

*Ibonic (12/14/2005 7:17:33 PM):
fake!
*Stefan (12/14/2005 7:16:00 PM):
i didn't really type this
There are many possibilities. Maybe yours is best afterall; The redundancy can be good when copying and pasting only a part of the log. :)

Anyway, normally what I do when that happens is open the PM history folder in Windows Explorer (if on Windows at the time) and sort the files by the last time they were modified in order to figure out who it was. I used to do that when people messaged me and then logged off before I was able to read the PM, until Stefan acted on my request to implement the "offline messages" in v4.

I agree for history to display account names only. Nicknames to be displayed would be kind of pointless, wouldn't it?

Yeah that idea with the Accountname only is a good idea.
The Accountname is more important then the nick so who cares the nickname :D?
:)

What if you're trying to accuse someone of impersonating a staff member? >_<

Darlene159 12-15-2005 04:41 PM

I like the only showing account name idea.

xAndrewx 12-15-2005 04:49 PM

No editing it either?

excaliber7388 12-16-2005 03:17 PM

How could you not edit it? really the history is hard to use a proof, just as screenshots are as well (so easy to edit, or make a level with NPCs). The best way to get someone in trouble, is for them to admit to it (yeah right) or to catch them in the act :\ However, showing the account name would be a good idea ;) Maybe even allow staff to so other people's history, so they can see the un-edited versions

LOL, how about no?

excaliber7388 12-16-2005 10:19 PM

why not?

Damix2 12-16-2005 10:24 PM

Maybe globals, not every servers staff. I'd rather not have some crappy servers manager reading my PMs

excaliber7388 12-17-2005 12:48 AM

i know they're personal messages, but therer would be no need to see them unless there was a complaint. it could help a lot. I mean, what could you be saying that's so bad XD The only reason you'd be against this,is if you have something to hide. It would be something only high staff on each server could do

I guarentee this would be abused and people use it when they want to, rather than need to.

Perhaps personal information about your life that you don't want other people to know about?

Sacred Shadow 01-09-2006 04:44 PM

The first suggestion seemed like a good idea.

Mykel 01-09-2006 06:22 PM

Logs can't be used to jail someone. Plain and simple. They are way too easy to make up. There really isn't a way around it without invading privacy.

xAndrewx 01-09-2006 08:09 PM

I vote servers holding PM logs!

TheJames 01-09-2006 08:18 PM

Say someone masses and their like "Hiring for my business". The person reads the mass, closes for later..and then the person then has to scroll through the playerlist and find the nickname with the corresponding account. It'd be to hard. It should be Account: Nick format

That person should take note of the account of the player before they close the window! v4's PM windows have Account:Nickname under the titlebar ;)

xAndrewx 01-09-2006 08:55 PM

Or, you can view the event logger (f2)
It says:
Sent PM to player.account
