A little level debate

Okay me and my friend are aguing that my level is "over-detailed". Tell me what you think please.

I'll also take your constuctive criticism.

haunter 12-06-2005 03:45 AM

I dislike it. Though there is nothing wrong with 'over detailed' so long as it's done right, and is made appealing.

P.S. Learn to use the edit button.

Angel_Light 12-06-2005 04:11 AM

What ya mean, "Edit Button" XP

I mean, the button you press to edit your posts when you forget to say something.

I know, lol.Jeesh. I'm just too lazy. Also, got any tips for "over-detailing the right way"?

Yes.

Don't use so many different-colored objects.

Detail with the greenish objects more and the mushrooms/brown things less. While they look okay if there are only a few of them scattered about, they look too cluttered in numbers. By contrast, using the greenish things is kind of like "shading" is in graphics editing. While not a perfect analogy, you don't "shade" with different completely different colors in graphics editing. Likewise, you shouldn't shade the green, grassy ground with alot of pale things or alot of brown things. The difference is that you can use those pale and/or brown things occasionally to add some accent, which would probably screw up a picture if you were making art.

Anyway, just use more greenish stuff and less non-greenish stuff.

Oh, in that case... The next time you're 'too lazy' to use the edit button I won't be so kind as to comp your two posts together. One of them will just disappear, and as for which one, well that will be at my discression. Please don't double post like you did earlier.

xAndrewx 12-06-2005 10:50 AM

Hm, it's odd.

Mykel 12-06-2005 11:10 AM

I wonder who voted 'OMG! It's Amazing!'

I wouldn't say it's over detailed, yes a lot but not over detailed (I see worse all the time).

I think the overall concept of the level is boring. In terms of detailing with tiles like the mushroom and rocks, it prevents a player from walking around.. that is just annoying.

So if there was a choice for boring, I would go for that.

It's not the worst level in the world though.

Eagle 12-06-2005 09:37 PM

Hey, arent these the same as I told you? You told me my advice sucked. Okay.

Infernix 12-06-2005 09:42 PM

Well....IIII think you use to much of that crap that you cant move on which is your so called "detail" lolz. As far as everything else, I dont wanna say it cause its hard to say stuff without making ya mad or someone else mad.

Angel_Light 12-06-2005 10:59 PM

Maybe I should add, The passage in the top is the only way to get up there.

WanDaMan 12-07-2005 09:26 AM

Overall I really like this level >_<

Some errors in the trees what can easilly be fixed. Keep up the good work

Angel_Light 12-07-2005 02:15 PM

I think it's outstanding... I don't like the blue bits though. Ick! :P
He's referring to the walls of the level. He never said he didn't like it so I assume he thought it was good?

Don't ask for any type of criticism if you can't take any of it :\

Angel_Light 12-15-2005 09:23 PM

No, it's not the criticism. I love critism it pushes me beyond my limits. It just I want to know whats good and bad for leveling

Be creative. You shouldn't conform to 'standards' of another person. The best levels are the levels that don't resemble every other level except one tile being placed differently.

[edit] wow, that's worded horribly :x

Angel_Light 12-16-2005 04:46 AM

Hmm, I'll try to make betters levels with "MY" design. Wait. I will make better levels.
