Surely a temporary message could have been left on the site.

Not when the website is being pointed to a new dns because the server changed....

You (or your host) could not leave a page at the old server announcing the move?

I'm familiar that a message could have been left under normal circumstances, but I personally could not leave a message.

This was a 24 hour deal.

I know that messages can be left, but the trouble of doing it for a 24 hour switch for a server's forum is just not worth the time spent.

Then don't say it can't be done.

They gave me two options:

Option one was leaving the site up and posting a temporary down message, yada yada, setting up the new one, then, once the new one is set up, transfering the data. This option could take 24-48 hours longer.

Option 2 was completely move everything at once and wait 24hours.

I chose option 2. It was not possible with option 2.

What, 'duh' replaces good arguments now? That doesn't answer my question about how "what happens when you try to visit that domain" is relevant to "what could happen were this change executed differently."

There isn't any point in trying to explain to you lance.
You didn't view the page when it was down, so you wouldn't understand.
I don't exactly take snapshots of each page that doesn't work for me.
