Atlantis: No Americans Allowed?
 

Last year I began playing Atlantis with a friend named Domse, and since then I've spent about 130 hours on the server, levelling up with their RPG system, sparring, playing events, talking to my (few) friends there, and... being constantly harassed.

What's the deal with this? It's not just me either, if that's what you're thinking - several other friends who I have encouraged to play there with me experience this problem, namely King Clops and Highlander. It's not in forms of simple verbal harassment, even though there's always "stupid ami" comments floating around, but it's expanding into other things: In events, I can plainly see them plot on screen (with the limited amount of German I can understand) to disqualify Americans or all agree to report to a GP that they are hacking. I don't understand what causes this, on every other server they are treated completely equal. More than anything, it's disgusting, and ruins a very, very good server. I've spoke to staff on the server about it, but only a few can understand English, and otherwise have no explanation or punishment for it. I can provide screenshots if you'd like, anything, log on right now and check the spar champions statue, "XStorm for Germany" after winning it back from me, as if this is some sick race war. What's with this?

They just dont like someone coming to there "home" (server) and being better then them at it. Sure its bad but its human nature really something should be done about it though.

It's pretty much the same if they come to UN/etc and can't understand nor speak english. You just don't hear of it because about everyone speaks english.
But of course they insult you when you beat them at spar or whatever, it's like that nearly everywhere, they just have another insult (as in, "stupid ami"), but guess how many times they get called "stupid nazi" on UN?

I'm going to be honest here, I worked on a PW for pretty much all of its very long time on the classic tab (Doomsday was the server and yes I know there was no classics "tab" back then) and was about every type of staff there you could imagine including Co-Manager and the amount of times I saw racism in the face of those that spoke little-to-no Enlish was extremely minimal. Usually the server was so happy to see new players (and don't try and respond that Atlantis has no problem getting new players) that everyone didn't care if a "stupid nazi", as you have decided to name these oh so often racially insulted, were beating them in a spar, CTF tourney, or whatever else. Perhaps it happens somewhere, but that kind of racial intolerance has certainly never been a part of my long graal experience.

Ah I just read that last section again. UN is probably the PW I would have guessed you'd see that kind of thing at. UN is usually given the bad rap of newbish and brutish players (whether or not its true). But tell me this, does Atlantis want to be known as the "German UN"? Perhaps its time someone had a talk with the players and reminded them that if they want to be treated fairly, they can start by setting a good example themselves.

Don't get me wrong here, I don't like the people on Atlantis either, and neither am I trying to make this insulting sound better or something. What I'm saying is that you can't just point at Atlantis, it's like this on every server with a staff that doesn't really care about what the players say and a major player base.
Concerning your experience on Doomsday: Neither was Graal that "popular" as it is now, nor did Doomsday posess that many players.

I have no idea whether they want to be know as the german UN, fact is they are it, and they are pretty much the same if you ignore the language.

Don't get me wrong, non of that was pointed at you really. I didn't know whether you were speaking for Atlantis, I was simply pointing those comments at whoever is on this server saying these things and whatever staff is allowing it. And Doomsday had a solid playercount of 60 for a majority of its time up and had a pc of 80 for its most popular timeperiod. It lost its popularity towards the end of its life and it had a usual player count of around 25-40. Also, I didn't mean to say you were calling anyone a "stupid nazi". That was a miscommunication.

Any german speaking globals need to go handle that situation. That's certainly not in agreement with the Terms and Agreement for Graal. I think ALL classic servers should take extra care cause they are speaking to "potential" P2P players. tsk tsk...

We do it too. Lets not be hypocrites. Although, that still doesn't make it right.

Nobody is claiming to be perfect, but a good first step would be to eliminate the obvious and blatant things. After that the smaller problems could be stopped much easier.

Get some other people to help you out and pwn them on their own server.

Myself, Highlander, and King Clops were doing that pretty well until they resorted to cheating. Just yesterday, in the weekly tag team spar, I was stuck with a partner who told me, afterwards, he was a 'spy' - when it was his turn to spar, he ran into the corner, slashed at the wall, and let the other team kill him. I got to the finals even with 0 contribution from him, heheh.





Good luck with that, man. I've won their singles tournament more times than anyone already, and was a 7x champ recently until I was 'beat' by XStorm, who was warped out by staff at 1 heart and healed, where then the spar continued, me with 2 hearts, him with 8. Also, when I first started playing there, they instituted a 50-hour limit to entering the tournament, which they hoped would shoo Americans off. That didn't work, so now they just resort to cheating and lying.

Oh, I feel that kind of 'racism' since when I started playing dude, I just don't care. It happens everywhere. x_x

Considering the amount of people that I have seen visitting Atlantis in order to make fun of the retarded Atlantis players or their stupid language, I understand their hostile behaviour towards you guys.

lol even logging onto atlantis made me laugh, but on the other hand, germans harrasing would make me laugh even more.

Actually, I have logged on atlantis just to see what it's like. I found a large, nice server...completely in German. I don't speak a word of German, so I don't play there, it would be wrong of me to expect them to speak english for me. However, I have never accounted racism (in fact, sometimes they try to speak english with me, which is pretty cool) though I've never seen any anti american stuff, (though i do believe you) its still wrong. After all, no one makes fun of germans (or anyone else) on their servers, I don't care what language you speak. As long as you speak Graal XD If you don't know German, oh well. Try to have fun anyways. It's just to bad that their being so close minded to you, this borders on hatred, though some people just don't like america (and i never did get a good explination for that). It's too bad, Atlantis is a nice server.

They've bugged me when I was on there (for being American, when I'm actually Canadian). I simply told them that when they win a war, I will listen to what they have to say.

You dont speak German they could be calling you all kinds of.

Somehow half of the LAT I hire for Classic end up being Swedish. I had to fire my German LAT :(.
