Zone Tileset

Putting this first for all the people who know how to use it.

PHP Code:

Now for you all who are saying "What's this? :confused: ". This here is an NPC script you can put in a level to load the zone tileset in GraalEditor.exe. The script determines what tiles will load determining on what the level name is.

For Example:

Say I wanted to make a Arctic level. I would put this NPC in the level then save it with a name that starts with 'zone_arctic'. Then press the Play button in level editor and hit F4. This will have loaded my arctic tiles and I would be able to make an arctic level! :megaeek:

I hope this was helpful for those who want to take a shot at zone levels. :)

Alternative Method at the request of Bl0nkt:
  • Open the graal folder then go to levels -> tiledefs
  • Open the tiledefsZone.txt file and copy the contents
  • Open the tiledefsOffline.txt file and paste the Zone contents
  • Save tiledefsOffline.txt and close GraalEditor.exe if open
  • Open GraalEditor.exe and save the level with proper prefixes as explained above then hit play then F4.

alright, i go and make the npc, and paste what u posted inside the npc(check attacked image) and then i save the map, then press the play button, when i press F4 to get back to the editor, this is what happens -______-

VulcanP2P 11-07-2005 05:52 AM

You need to have the proper prefix for the level name. i.e: If you wanted to do that level with the tiles used in wars just save the level name as zone_wars-map1.nw, press Play, then F4.

Bl0nkt 11-07-2005 06:00 AM

Why not just tell them how to do it permanently so they don't have to use a script each time? :eek:

Done.

I posted the first method originally because most of the people I tried explaining the method you requested to did not understand it well.

anubis_wing 11-07-2005 02:20 PM

Ok I sent the files and all to the offline thing BUT I can't seem to open the stuff in graal editor.

Huwajux 11-07-2005 07:16 PM

Thanks Vulcan. :)

Robert_H 11-07-2005 10:13 PM

Am I the only one that has no clue what this is?! :(

Did you save it as a proper level name, press play, then hit F4?

Robert_H 11-07-2005 10:56 PM

Um, no.. I just don't know what the whole concept is for..

Pay better attention.

Bl0nkt 11-08-2005 12:54 AM

Let me wrap it up in a nutshell.

Copy everything you see in the PHP Code (the colorful words in the scrolling box). Go to the level editor (Easiest way is to go on graal2 and hit "Editor"). Go to Baddies, NPCs, Chests and click the thing that looks like an outline of a person. Drop it in the level and double-click it. Paste everything you copied into it. Close out of it and save your level with the correct prefix to use those tiles. By this I mean save your level with either "zone_arctic, zone_wars, zone_whatever" in the beginning of the filename (example: zone_arctic_test1.nw). Hit "Play" and then F4. You should be able to use the tiles.

anubis_wing 11-08-2005 02:56 AM

All it shows is Z's every where!

What did you save the level name as? x_x

Its a very simple concept to grasp. Look at the script an see the parts where its ,zone_dropship_, or ,zone_wars, ? Thats what you need to look at. Saving it as zone_anubissfirstlevel13371111.nw will only add the tiles with the Zs. However if you did zone_wars-anubissfirstlevel13371111.nw it would give you the Zs and the tiles used on the Zone Wars map.

anubis_wing 11-08-2005 03:47 AM

Ah cuz you see I saved it as Zone_Tiles

So you understand it now?

anubis_wing 11-08-2005 03:51 AM

More or less.

Shadox 11-08-2005 04:26 AM

i understand it less!...cause im just too lazy to pssibly comprihend all of those exceptionally large words...also i dont get why there is so many

hydralisk150 11-08-2005 04:29 AM

is there a way to get all the maps on it so i can use all the tiles?

Bl0nkt 11-08-2005 05:21 AM

Vulcan, you're helping a dead cause. rofl.

Wait until they learn what development is first.

anubis_wing 11-08-2005 02:01 PM

How do I get a bigger map the map I want to design is much bigger than the one it supplies.

Use a Gmap. If you don't know what that is, or how to make one; Search the forums. All your questions will have been answered in previously made threads.

Huwajux 11-08-2005 07:06 PM

Poor Vulcan, explains an answer, get another question. Repeat.
Explaining to them is like trying to get a sumo wrestler to get a score of 10, performing at swan lake ballet performance.
*Edit
Could you script the doors, seats, TV's and trader areas please?

Doors probably run on actiongrab. Here's what it would be in GS1:

NPC Code:
//#CLIENTSIDE
if (playerenters) show;

if (actiongrab) {
hide;
sleep 2;
show;
}

This is probably wrong, but it might be this in GS2 (sorry for any mistakes, I don't know too much with it yet):

NPC Code:
function onplayerenters() show;

function onactiongrab() {
hide;
sleep("2")
show;
}

God, I feel like a new scripter again. :[

Edit:

Seats are tiles for zone_dropship and the TV is an image.

The same way as on a desktop.

And do you mean Era's tiles?

Bl0nkt 01-17-2006 09:11 PM

Let me try to explain prefixes a bit better.

A prefix is a character that comes before a word/sentence/etc. A prefix in files are what comes before that filename.

Example: Say the prefix is level_. Say the level name is lol.nw.

Now, take the level name, lol.nw, and put the level_ prefix on it. It becomes level_lol.nw.

Question: Who cares?
Answer: Many times, when you see random blocks or unusable tiles, it's because the wrong prefix was used.

Take a look at the tiledefs for Zone.

PHP Code:

Look at the fourth, fifth and sixth lines down. You will see this:

PHP Code:

tileset_zone-dropship.png,zone_dropship_,4,1024,256
tileset_zone
-dropship2.png,zone_dropship_,4,1408,256
tileset_zone
-dropship3.png,zone_dropship_,4,1024,

There are three images listed there, one being tileset_zone-dropship.png. The image looks like this:

http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/5577/...ropship4yq.png

Question: What does that matter?
Answer: That's a group of tiles that you can use for level editing.

Question: Wow! How do I use them!?
Answer: Prefixes.

This is how we will do this. Look at the first line. Notice zone_dropship_ after the image name? Guess what? That's a prefix. Use that prefix in your level name and that image will appear on your tileset. You may have noticed this prefix is also in the other two lines listed. So guess what? Those images will be added too!

I hope this answered some questions.

Raeiphon 01-18-2006 04:20 PM

You can also achieve this by pasting the code from Bl0nkt's post into the levels/tiledefs/tiledefs_Offline.txt, and using the prefix described.

I alrdy new that and actualy tried making zone levels in da past... Didnt work out so well.. Well another shot cant hurt xD Watta we win if the levels REALLY REALLY good huh? :P Maybe a ET job xD

Bl0nkt 01-25-2006 10:04 PM

First of all, how does being an ET relate in any way to making levels? Second of all, who said this was a competition? It was scrictly to present development to Zone players, as they were not learning much about developing. Thirdly, I'm not picking on anyone, but Zone players (or at least what I see of them) are the least compatible staff members you could find. I wouldn't pick them to work on a classic server, let alone a gold server. I could probably make exceptions to people like Huwajux and Nythe, though.

Dante55555 01-26-2006 12:11 AM

Shh Hachi.. Your making yourself look smart.. U dont want that do u. And the only reason zone asnt got any good staff is cause they dont got me :P ... How cud u point out Huwa as 1 of the good staff anyway? xD J/k j/k

I agree with the entire statement, and, unfortunately, that also includes me as one of the "least compatible staff members you could find"...
By the way, don't you mean "competent"?

By the way. I know this is a double post. I also know this thread is a good few months old. But, I need help with this.
I saved it with the right prefix. zone_wars-ss.nw
However, all I get are the Z tiles. And whenever I try to save it as zone_arctic, same things happens. No prefixes work. Help!

EDIT: This won't work with any tileset. Not Icarus, nor Era.
x-x
EDIT2: I've taken a picture of the Editor with the files uploaded. Look at the file name, tell me what I'm doing wrong -_-
NOTE: Of course, I made sure the Zone tileset was loaded before doing this. Disregard the Era file.

That's normal. Zone tileset isnt very large, majority of the things you see in levels are actually images

Have you tried scrolling through the tileset? :p
There isn't a lot of Zone tiles like Raeiphon said, it's mainly NPC images. Trees etc.

Notice that there is no room to scroll.

And notice that I said it didn't work with any tileset.

EDIT: Oh btw I fixed it.

Close please.
