G4 and Linux?

When is the date for Linux Release of G4? I haven't heard much on this news since quite a long time; apparently, Stefan has been working on it cosidedly with the windows version, however, the only version available on Linux right now is 3.15.

That sums up the thread, really...

pacMASTA 10-02-2005 06:38 AM

Yeah and 3.15 really isnt that great, I've also tryed WineX, Cedega, and Wine no luck their, But yeah G4 on linux would be great.

Mac and Linux versions were supposed to be released a couple of days ago, but im guessing the reason for delay is the amount of bugs being reported.

Skyld 10-02-2005 09:37 AM

I believe the Linux version is being released soon.

Give me V4:mac D: I've just been told that I'm supposed to get my iBook Friday. (They actually have them now. Wow)

Anyway... It shouldn't be too hard to port the Linux version from the Mac version, or vice versa, seeing as how they're both Unix based... No?

I heard a rumour that V4:mac was low on Stefan's todo list, and that Linux was even above Mac... 0.o;

Probably is. Stefan can't do seventy things at once, y'know.

pacMASTA 10-05-2005 09:47 PM

What do you mean "Even linux is above mac" of coarse it is, Tux, and daemon pwns that apple. But i think it may because theirs more demand for Linux then their is Mac?

Admins 10-06-2005 02:18 AM

Well v3 and v4 have been developed on Linux, so the first version always exist for Linux, but since there are not a lot of people playing Graal with Linux and Mac yet it isn't the highest priority to release Graal for those platforms. It basicly means v4 exist for Linux and Mac, but there are a few things that are not working but need to work before being released, mainly the options window.

Velox Cruentus 10-06-2005 12:23 PM

If the only things not done is trivial things such as the options window (That you can probably redirect that temperarily to the console on terminal and likewise ), don't you think you could release it pretty soon? ( I've been on Linux for a while now, and programming my server for G4 when I only have G3 hampers my ability to test. )

Admins 10-06-2005 09:10 PM

The options window is not trivial, some people need to disable udp, change keyboard configuration etc.

Hope it's release for Linux soon, G3 is rather laggy on my Linux PC.

Also hope G4 is release for unpaying Graalians or expired Graalians such as myself, soon.

I know originally that Stefan told me there would not be a v4 for Linux, but I'm glad that has been changed. I use my linux box religiously. Actually, of the 4 windows partitions installed on my desktop, somehow zero of them work :( My laptop sadly has an intel i810 which does not run openGL for crap, so looks like when there is a v4 for Linux, it'll be played strictly on my desktop. I did play it for Windows a few times (mostly restarted just to test it), and it was nice. And now, back to hibernation for me.

Im rebuilding my linux tower, And yes im brave enough to usa an ATI Radeon Series :). Along with Novell Suse 10.0, And i can't wait for new version Graal3 on Linux is horrible.

bef 10-10-2005 03:42 PM

I use an ATI Radeon video card and it was automatically detected and natural Linux drivers installed... Couldn't have been easier.

It's most of the time not installing the accelerated drivers though, because those are closed source. So you need to install the drivers from NVidia or ATI before being able to play games in good speed. You can test if the good drivers are installed by typing "glxinfo" on the command line, if it says "direct rendering: Yes" then everything is ok.

Knuckles 10-10-2005 07:08 PM

Yeah, just hit up the ATI website and download the most upto-date drivers. They usually help improve things alot.

pacMASTA 10-11-2005 02:34 AM

Well, Suse10.0 has good performance and looks good running the KDE 3.4.2. Just wondering will Linux Graal4 include the online editor? But after playing with it, Im geting great FPS.

I think the online editor might be some kind of GUI/weapon script.
