RC Suggestions

Suggestions for the new RC:

1) Viewing a player's profile should be an option when right clicking them in the RC's playerlist.

2) Clearing NPCs should also be an option.

3) Giving rights to a folder that doesn't exist shouldn't create the folder. There should be a new folder button or option in the right click menu.

4) Folder rights might be better as checkboxes.

5) Summoning players should be a right.

6) You should be able to set an amount of time when you ban someone. When the time runs out, they are automatically unbanned.

7) Classes should show in the list even if a script hasn't joined it.

8) Server Options should use checkboxes (for true/false) and text (for everything else). All usable options should be on the list.

9) Database NPCs shouldn't need a level (like the Control-NPC).

10) The Admin-Playerworld# account should only be able to change it's password if it has the 'Change staff accounts' right.

11) The right for setting your own attributes should be labeled 'Set own attributes' instead of 'Set the own attributes'.

12) The 'NPC-Control' right should be replaced with 'Weapons', 'Classes', and 'NPCs'

13) Shouldn't the new RC be called RC3 (instead of RC2)? The RC we use now is version 2.

14) An option to make scripts colored (like in the scripted RC) would be nice.

15) Script sytax checking like in GraalEditor.exe.

16) An 'Ignore' option when you right click a player in the RC's playerlist.

17) A checkbox option in the Weapon script editing box for making it hidden istead of naming it something starting with a '-'.

18) Same as #17 but for weapons starting with '*'.

19) This goes with #8. A text box that you type a filename into to change the NPC Server's head.

20) RCs and the NPC Server shouldn't be on the map.

21) Another that goes with #8. There should be an option that lets you choose which items can be found in bushes and which items can't. Maybe a button in the server options window that opens a new window with check boxes for each item and a text box beside each for a number (percent) to set its rarity.

22) Another that isn't really RC. There should be a way to make the whole map show instead of all the areas you haven't explored being black.

23) This one is for the forums. The 8 hours between posts for classic accounts should be less than 8 hours or Admin accounts (Admin-Playerworld#) should be allowed to use the forums.

I'll add more later :D.

Doesn't it do that for GS2 enabled servers?

The main thing I would like is draggable folders, and some way to get rid of older folders that still show up if you use wildcards as folder rights.

Already implemented.

No, but custom rights should be! :p

Agreed. Timed banning has been suggested since 2000 or earlier, a bit surprised it hasn't been added yet.

12) The 'NPC-Control' right should be replaced with 'Weapons', 'Classes', and 'NPCs'
Simply giving the NPC-Control right lets people connect to, interact with (via RC), and "control" the NPC server -- it's not just about scripting (weapons/classes/NPCs) in all cases. I think the current name fits well.

And what exactly would giving these rights do anyway? You would still need to set folder rights. For example: you check all 3 of these rights (weapons, classes, and NPCs), but only want the person to have read access to a single script in each section. It just seems redundant. And using checkboxes for script access also doesn't appear to be a good idea, since using wildcards (e.g. rw WEAPONS/MyName/*) is somewhat common.

File version for the current RC is 1.1.0.0, where do you get the idea that it's version 2?

16) An 'Ignore' option when you right click a player in the RC's playerlist.
Normally staff aren't supposed to ignore players, even if they are annoying. It can be handled with other, more 'professional' methods.

I don't like post nitpicking but since this post is broken up into segments I'll do it anyway.

You mean on a menu? /clearnpcs works fine...

No. That is not how folder rights work.

Er, what? Since when is summoning a player an RC feature?

No. That'd make things messy. And what would you do for comments?

Er, what? That's what folder rights are for.

That'd be abusive. Not something the RC should have.

Why?

Or a serveroption would probably be better. Does it really matter what head the NPC server uses?

Why? This would remove the ability to use the map to open PMs from RCs/NPC server.

Or you could rescript it.

Before this current version, RC and NC were two different programs. I used the older version for about a week and then this current one was released. It was around '01 when they were joined if I remember correctly.

Make a script that echos all players' version to RC. It says 2.

I never said it was. I'm saying it should be added. Just like saying warpto <player> you should have a right that lets you say summon <player>.

A text box for comments maybe? Use your imagination.

Press F7....

I'll post again in 8 hours :frown:.
(Please let Admin-Playerworld# accounts use the forums. For $100 I should at least get to post every 2 hours :frown:.)

EDIT:
Reply to the post after this one: (because I can't post for another 8 hours)
I didn't say anything about the PM icons appearing on the minimap. I just said they shouldn't show on the map (when you press M). It looks like a player but when you go there, there's nothing.

EDIT 2:
Zelph, Use a script to echo all players' version to RC. It counts RC as a player and will say it's version 2.

EDIT 3:

But, you have to push F7 just to see if you have a PM? I like looking at the minimap to see if I have any PMs.

That's not true, not all players are using client version two. Besides, we're talking about RC version here, not client.

Which is what he's talking about. If you use "version" on an RC it says 2.

o.O never tried that, but RC property does say "1.1.0.0" though.

talkingnoodle 01-01-2006 11:16 PM

i like the check box idea

Sum41Freeeeek 01-03-2006 04:22 AM

Why do you need to know someone's version when everyone will probably be using g4?

That is not what they were talking about at all.

I think the RC is saying version 2 because it mimics the behavior of a v2 client when connecting to the server.

The only idea I'd have to say that I like from there (that isn't already implemented) would have to be the server options as checkboxes, except it shouldn't be checkboxes so much as property-sheets similiar to that used in VB.

[EDIT]
And also, I don't think Admin-Playerworld accounts should be granted forum access. If you do that, we will have a lot of snotty people like Malinko who think they are cool because they have the word 'Admin' in their account.

jake13jake 01-03-2006 09:48 PM

Oh cool, only one page... someone might listen to me.
For people that can edit folder rights:
A button in the file editor to toggle viewing all folders. Usually I just want to view a select group of folders, but if I want to get stuff from staff members that had their own folder and quit and I don't really want their folder showing up for me, would be nice to have a show all folders button

RC2 has functionality to delete folders.

I don't really mind about deleting folders; I just like to focus on the ones I'm working with

Inverness 01-10-2006 02:56 AM

I would like the folder configuration to be upgraded, so 'online' files don't have to all go in the levels folder.

I would not like having only checkboxes and text fields for the server options, because they're a good place to be news and notices that are easy to read and can't be changed by normal staff.

Using a checkbox to determine if a weapon is hidden or undeleteable would be nice and would make the weapon names look better in general without the - and * in them.

Folder rights would not be better as checkboxes, I imagine that the way of detecting the list of checkboxes would be by the folder configuration, something that only shows 'online' files and not anything outside the levels folder. So that would be bad.

Why not? Weapon name field is for the weapon name, it should not be used to determine wether its hidden or not, that should be seperate, it just ruins the 'look' you could say, if you have to put a negative before all hidden weapon names.

I would like to see the Style button
in the NPC code edit window, as well as a gs2 version
of commands.rtf on the side, to better reflect the GraalEditor.exe npc edit window.

Speaking of GraalEditor, and the default npc, also the default npc charachter and its modes, please update that npc code to gs2.

Also perhaps a separate application, which could maybe even be done in php or perl as a web page:
Two textarea boxes side by side in a form,
on the left you enter in your npc in old gscript code,
click Submit,
a parser goes through line by line of what you pasted in,
and returns the text of your code formatted in gs2 in the right hand box.

This code converter would be a huge time saver for the likely hundreds of old extensive original gscript npcs that are in need of conversion out there.
I got at least a dozen long scripts that need extensinve reformatting, and I for one would make use of such a converter.

Except it would likely not be as efficient as you think, and it promotes laziness.

Just learn gscript2, or find someone who can.

There is a /style command (or similiar) on RC, but if you use it I suggest you look through your script that it styled as it sometimes creates errors with quotes and whatnot.

Admins 01-18-2006 02:53 AM

Yes the /style thing is more made for new scripting style :)
