graal4setup 64-bit problem
I have tried a few things now, unless I got some weird error or virus, I cant get the graal version 4 or the setup/installer program to even run.
Oh the irony of that lighning storm yesterday when it did work.... **XP Pro. x64 is seen on my network as 5.2 instead of the normal 5.1 for the regular XP pro. (32 bit) |
Do any errors pop up, or does nothing happen at all?
|
hehe, only when I try to run it in compatibility mode for "windows 95"
other then that, nah, its doing everything else normally. |

Yes of course, you name it. Windows 9x are all in the compatibility list, and all of the Win NT types. (Win9x - Windows 95, 98, ME) NT of course being all the different Windows XP, 2000 and of course the original windows NT 4.0
But that isn't the issue really, it seems to be a problem with the setup installer being a bit picky on its bit type and the windows (WOW32) emulator that XP x64 uses. It ran once allready, so something was done right. First time it booted up and ran just fine and normally. After that, I couldn't even get the Graal4 or the setup launcher to run, even after redownloading them. ..Oh the tempting smell of Linux os again... |
The sweet aroma of Linux.
|
Looking for a hand here, this is not working for me...
|
A little bit hard to test, we don't even have Windows XP on 32 bit.
A few questions: - it doesn't even open up a window? can you see Graal4Setup.exe in the task list / process list ? - When you rename the setup to Graal4.exe or so, does it open then, and eventually create the files graal4config.txt and FILENAMECACHE.txt ? - Have you tried to run it in several different compatibility modes, Win2000 should work best I guess ? BTW: Graal should work on Windows95 if you have installed InternetExplorer6 and DirectX7. |

Well its a difference if its the old Intel Itanium or the new 64 bit processors from Intel which are compatible to the 64 bit extensions of AMD, but I guess it is an AMD
|
I tried making it compatible to Win 98, it worked for like 5 seconds then it stopped.. Then I put it to 95, then 98 then I installed it quick. Now when Graal4 opens it closes too.. Maybe I should make it Win 98 Compatible?
Okay, I tried it with Win98 and it stilled stopped working when the log on screen was up.. Can you fix this? I am using 64 bit too |

You mean this file, or from the console.log?
Edit: Just remember to change the .txt to .log extention because you can attach .log files. |
What's all the talk about Vista, has it been released? I thought it was just in private beta testing. o_o

Are your graphics drivers up to date? What version of DirectX (use "dxdiag")? |
I got DirectX 9.0c
|
Hello, skyld? I still need help.. And my directx is version 9.0c

It seems I have encountered the fate of the dreadded x64...but ill talk about that another day. After installing the game which actually ran fine I ran the game, which loaded fine and I enjoyed playing on graal kingdoms..Until the next day, I turn on the computer and goto double click on Graal 4.exe and nothing happens. I checked to make sure the shortcut was right and that it was loading the right thing but there was no login screen. I opened up task manager to see what processes are opened after clicking on graal 4.exe and I do see the graal process open but then it just disappears. After a few restarts and a few times attempting to open the client I might be lucky and the game actually opens but even if I do open the game sometimes the client will just close for no apparent reason.
I have the latest directx installed (december edition) and also the latest catalyst drivers for my graphics card. I have also tried all the different compatibility modes which dont work either. |
And v2 works fine?
|
Yup, v2 works great
|
Well if v2 works fine then is there any chance someone could post a link to the v2 installer.
|
I think it is still available at http://www.graalonline.com/downloads/setup.exe
But the question is why v2 works and v4 not, since it is packaged the same way, uses the same DirectX version etc. If the program just closes without errors then it might be the anti-cheat detection, but we already had that in v2. |
Maybe since the hacking thing prevents hacks, maybe it thinks 64bit is hacking so it closes automatically?

I have found some rather disturbing news about EXE's under 64 bit windows. Since the EXE is oringally intended for 32 bit, the windows 64 bit has an emulator program that seems to rewrite some of the EXE Coding like it was trying to make it fit better something. Most of the EXE files on my harddrive when I went back to a 32 bit mode would not function at all, because they were said to be "corrupted".
|
Hmmm I don't think that the exes itself are modified.
You could try following: - disable the Data Execution Protection for Graal v4 - disable the sound in Graal: open graal4config.txt and set all volumes to 0 (mp3volume=0 etc.); the sound library has changed since v2, its the same as in v3 though (does v3 start?) |
I'm going to have to get my 64 bit disc back, a friend wanted to see what it did on that pc. But yea I'll see what I can do. Was rather annoying that V4 only worked once on the 64 bit system.

Btw, I think the EXE modifying thing was true. I redownloaded the setup and redid it, but before I used it I made it compatible with Windows 98/ME. I can get on v4 right now but maybe tomorrow it won't work so I'll enjoy it while I can. EDIT: Nevermind.. It just shut off on me and I didn't get to check out Graal 3D EDIT 2: I got d/ced from Graal3D, and it gave me the Windows Firewall and I unblocked Graal. It worked, but I have to get Gold/VIP to use Graal3D. Maybe the reason why Graal4 would always crash is because of Windows blocking Graal without giving it the warning? EDIT 3: Nevermind, it keeps closing on me, so I doubt it is the Windows Firewall problem. |
I don't know how the Data Executiong Protection (not sure about the exact name) can be disabled, but I have heard that it is enabled by default on AMD64 Windows.
|
So anything new about the 64-Bit problem?
|
Simple my friend, I would love to help Stefan out and get Graal into the 64bit arch modes, but right now, its all 32bit, and 32 bit only.
hmm... *nano's graal4setup in linux* lets see.... |

Well nothing to be blunt about it, except for one thing. I need to figure out WHY it messes up my computer when I try to run it. And now that I know, I can report the issue to you all. Unfortunately this is the Linux Version or GraalV4 and I wont post that issue here. **No I did not edit the installer, I was just looking for what it was doing that could cause me an error.
