Graal and Technology
As the years go by new/improved technology is introduced, which then creates more gaming consoles and better quality games. So, I have a question to ask. As newer and newer technology is introduced to the public, does cyberjouers plan on updated Graal to keep up with the current technology? Doesn't necessarily mean that Graal has to go to game consoles only, because Graal wouldn't be the same if it were limited to game consoles. I think it would be nice to someday play on Graal (as it is today, online) with graphics that make things seem as if they were right infront of you. Ever since Zelda Online was turned into Graal back in 1998, not much has changed with the graphics. Recently, Graal 3D was released to the public, but there's only so much Stefan can do. I'm not sure what other programmers are programming Graal 3D, but from what I've seen, only Stefan is working on it (the programming part atleast), and that really puts a huge pause on the development of Graal 3D, because Stefan also has to work on improving the clients for regular Graal.
So, the big question... Is cyberjouers planning on keeping up with the technological advances each year brings, and improving Graal to fit the new technology? |
Why should it? Newer flashy graphics, and higher system requirements do not always mean more fun. Look at how even now the 2D vs 3D debate rages on in the world of gaming. (Look at what happened when they tried to make Castlevania 3D after all)
I think Graal looks and plays fine the way it is. What needs to be worked on has nothing to do with the technology. |

How would it move forward? New versions, such as V4 are comming out soon, so isn't that moving forward for new parts of the Graal client that we'll eventually keep up with?

I'm the type that still enjoys going back and playing my NES, which debuted...oh...almost 20 years ago. There are game consoles coming out in the next year that have the power to render individual beads of sweat on character models. Do sweaty character models add to the fun? Of course not. Frankly, I don't give a damn how a game looks. All I care about is how it plays, and whether it's enjoyable, as games should be. |
Torque's developers are presumably working on their engine.
But as others have said, Graal doesn't need to be photorealistic. |

I love 3D shooters & RPGs, but there is something about Graal that always brings me back. Some people say its the drugs they put in our water, but I think I always come back because of the style.

i like the way graal is

I think rarther than asking about the development of new technology, we should instead be questioning development overall. Graal needs a lot of updates of content to keep players happy and I'd like to see more development of content and possibly also technology slightly, but both are lacking currently, but content is extremely important.

gameplay is nice but think of it if your just browsing the internet and come across it unless you really feel for games you would dismiss graal and go buy some other game i mean graal is a good game (gameplay wise) but gfx wise i have seen some better games on handheld gameboy games.

Graal needs to stop jumping around and stick to something they're good at, and improve on it. I can't see Graal3D keeping up with anything else similar out there on the market... I can't see it doing well at all. That time and money put into Graal3D should've been invested in creating a smoother running Graal engine, better machines to run servers on, something that's going to improve the original Graal.
That's not all Stefan and the others in the office should be worried about though. They should be paying more attention to the quality of content being displayed on the playerworlds in their game too. I've seen some pretty terrible stuff out there, and it may be in part because there's not much reason for people to try and get quality above and beyond. So long as there's enough, and it's good enough, they're happy. I believe it's also caused in part by the shoddy way Playerworlds are distribuited. All someone has to do is shell out $100 and they have their very own server for a year, where they have complete power over everything in their own little world. This causes the people with any sort of developing talent to split up, instead of working together to make a good server. I've lost my train of thought... I think it's somewhere near the beginning of my post. o.o; |

To be ON TOPIC: Yes. Graal has always tried going on all possible operating systems, as well as maintain the effectivity of the game. It developes new languages, better support overall, and a lot more flexibility.
