Graal2001 remake... what would you...
What would you really like to see? There are hundreds of idea threads and whatnot but I'm really not up for going through all of them. So to save some time, I'd like to know what you would really like to see on a revised 2k1. What do you envision the server to be like? What would make it better? What would make it worse? What should be removed? What should be left alone? What should be changed?
Please try to be as descriptive and detailed as possible. It will help a lot. For anyone who isn't aware, I'm throwing around the idea of remaking/revising 2k1 and trying to bring it back to what it once was. But of course, it's easy to bring back old 2k1 with no changes. But nobody would want to play it as we've all seen the graphics and levels and everything far too much to be impressed by them. I'm not sure if this belongs in this forum or in playerworlds. I just chose the 2k1 forum as this is related to 2k1 and this is where people come to talk about the server. If it needs to be moved to playerworld forums or something, please do so, instead of closing it. I honestly don't know where the thread belongs, so don't hold it against me. |
No permadeath systems, pls.

Old bodies :-( The new ones are ugly with the old heads.

This is sorta vague, but here goes anyways.
Storyline -Same original storyline, the bomy planet (Mt. Antora) crashed on Graal. Bomies run around. To account for the lost time, an intro will be run when the players first start off. “One day the bomy sun grew extremely hot, much much hotter than it has ever burned. The extreme heat caused everyone in the land, even those inside, to lose consciousness. Everyone arose to a changed world… one much different that the one they used to know and with much more mystery.” (Just an example but something to account for the lost time.) Overworld/Tileset/Bodies - Keep the overworld layout, however expanding the overworld, clean up existing levels. - A lot of custom tiles. Each town will have it’s own house tiles. - Each kingdom will get their own tiles. - Use Koni's old bodies with all the different attributes. Economy - Current jobs revision (no more button mashing, more steps, less serving NPC shopkeepers) - More steps in jobs (eg. product from job A + product from job B + product from job C = gralats) - Job additions - Eg. Fruit Picking is a job that requires bomies with bomy spin to collect fruit that grow on strange trees. The bomy slams into the tree several times before any fruit can be collected. Kingdoms - Kingdoms will start as small new kingdoms of people after the bomy sun blast. - Kingdoms will battle over lands where jobs take place. They will receive a small hidden percentage from the jobs done in their controlled areas. This money will be used to expand their newly formed kingdom and to gain supplies to gain the upper hand on opposing kingdoms. - Tower Idea – Kingdoms will also battle over towers placed around the lands. Mages go to towers during RP battles to help heal their members, protect kingdom, etc. This will make for interesting strategy to either keep mages at the battle, or send them to the towers. - You can buy kingdom only bombs with kingdom funds and throw them at the other kingdoms walls and knock them down which can then be rebuilt by crafting with durbys and stuff by the kingdom. Skill System (taken from Loriel's past idea) To make every player not the same, we could have a skill system. Most activities could have a corresponding skill to pursue them. These skills would allow you, for example, to fish bigger fishes, to find more rare minerals or to deal more damage to enemies. I certainly do not want, though, to have such an exp- and level controlled system as GK does. Without adequate skills, you shall still be able to do things, just not as good. They are just there to allow people to specialize into certain tasks, and make their characters have more dept. I do not intend an open-ended character development either, as GK currently has, but I expect characters to be at the maximum of skills in just some weeks. Items - More advanced item system - Players will be able to obtain different outfits, accessories, weapons, and other items. However all is for looks and have no effect on damage, health, etc. - Artifact/Treasure Collecting (Hunt for rare & lost relics, combine with others etc.) Certain quests that give your job specific items. - Cut down on number of hats (we don’t need 50 different shoguns or a penguin hat) Other Ideas - Bomy Battling - Different ‘unstick me’ points to help control PKing - Development of “Bomy Moon” (meteor in center of overworld) - Develop bottom right of map into a desert town with new tiles due to the Bomy Sun Blast - Replace Railroad Park - Get rid of Draisine. It was too easy to get around. Make more use of the trains - Magic (Complicated, but Gryffon had it all mapped out) - Sleeping to heal gone? Bomies only allowed to “shell” for a certain amount of time. |

As far as in game how to do that, I don't exactly know and haven't thought about it much. This is just a general idea to throw out there. |
I think that more directions should be given out for item locations and job locations. When I started, it was hard to get going because I had to ask where everything was and sometimes people wouldn't answer :[.

1. Playable bomys
2. Rocks with owner tags |
- Use the new Kingdoms, they're decendants of the original 2k1 kingdoms. On the topic of how to fill in that time gap between kingdoms... I'm short on ideas.
- Expand the overworld, but do not "develop" it all at once. Start with just natural forests, etc, then as time goes on start adding "man-made" things. I made some level-generated maps to start out with for expanding... I'm not sure if you'd want to use those though. They're pretty rough. Hrm, I wonder if they're still on 2k1 dev. -There are/were alot of text files on 2k1/2k1 dev with suggestions and ideas by staff. -Have more NPC Graalians... Just regular John Does that you can chat with, and ask basic questions "Do you know where I could find some work?" "Hear any good gossip lately?" etc. Each NPC wouldn't have the exact same information as every other one, obviously. It would be a good way to fix VT's problem. It'd be cool just to add new "gossip" to some NPC citizens to advertise a newly added quest, rather than mass-PMing it out... |

I will most likely use the old body template I created. With the seperated clothing and stuff. However I'm not sure how new bodies would affect the old combat... An HP system would have to be made (resembling the classic yin-yang style) but I don't want it to suffer from all the faults of the other triggeraction systems to date. =( Updated/new tiles for everything. I won't leave any of them out. As for jobs, removing pressing of buttons will be tough but I'll try to come up with something. Also have to make sure the steps process isn't tiresome. About kingdoms... I'm staying away from them right now. They are a huge undertaking all their own. Skills would be fun, but I wouldn't want them affecting combat. To solve the problem of people advancing in the "best" skills, couldn't we possibly create more good skills than you can possibly max out? Then you can't pick all the best ones. =P Question... would it be possible to lose your skill in something? Could you increase a different skill which would decrease another? Items... I may use my Oasis system here. The ring system was used a lot on 2k1 (for hats, food, instruments, etc) I figure why not just incorporate the whole inventory into that. With the new body ganis there would be stuff like shoes, belts, hats, shields, swords, tunics, coats, etc. (tunic because obviously the old graalian bodies were too chubby for pants) Hats would be redrawn and a lot of the crappy ones would be removed. Bomy Battling... not certain about that. It's an idea I've considered though. Different unstick me points would be excellent. Instead of getting rid of the Draisine (since it's a cool thing) why not have it break down or something after so much riding? Maybe you have to craft the draisine yourself instead of getting it for free? No idea about magic, but magic would really go in a different direction than 2k1 ever was. I want to keep a "feel" about the server. Sleeping to heal gone? Well... Would have to see once there are more foods and stuff worked out. But I think it could be a possibility that you can't heal from beds or pots. (the pot thing was too familiar to zelda anyway) Quote:

Expanding the overworld would be a lot of trouble. I saw someone's overworld expansion for 2k1 that was 3 times the size of the current 2k1 world. I mean really, did we ever get too crowded at the peak of 2k1's popularity? I don't ever recall the need for more land. There are plenty of undeveloped areas right on 2k1 that could be filled in. (like the bush farm in harmonia, wtf? hehe) -- As for things to do... Well the new clothing thing will at least give people something else to do. As you would no longer be able to just set your body to a graphic. You have to buy/find/trade for your clothes. I'd like to fix up the events and incorporate some new ones as well. Also want to do more for bomies/bomy pets. Quests that you could repeat for prizes would be helpful as well. and no Kaimetsu, there won't be a permadeath system. >_< |
And no rock tags, right???
|
for quest dont do just pure fedex quest please make it where you get a package and you gotta take it somewhere get something else put them togeather and then it does whatever.

Yes, no more bomy moon, Jinns island please.
Maybe put hearts back and no more HP bar, I find it annoying. |
i liked the hp bar. also for a example on what i ment about like how not to use fedex quest like you find a string and a peice of wood or something then you take it to a old dude to make you a bow insted of running a arrend for him.

On the overworld note: I'm not sure I was completely happy with the new layout of Mount Antora... Too many trees I think. That could be something worth looking into. |
Skills should not affect combat.
ConsideringSkills should not affect combat. Considering that Graal 2001’s roots are based around an economic system, shouldn’t the skills relate to such? To make sure that the skills are equally chosen, the professions will feed off each other. Every profession can make currency on its own, but with the work of other people, can earn even more for both sides. Second point; the draisine should not require any crafting process or have a breaking down of any sort. Its in the interest of Graal 2001 to not make everything tedious. Then, you stem into the idealism of an MMORPG -- and honestly, MMORPG’s are BASED around tedium, which is not something I want Graal 2001 being. Tertiary point; Crafting should have not have the incessant mashing of buttons. Nothing else to say about it. Auto-D programs should not be a problem. plz. |

You made an interesting point with the jobs. I want to incorporate some things into the server that would benefit players if they worked together. Maybe a job that required multiple people? (that way you can involve friends or make new friends) Maybe a system to let people forge there seperate items together to make something else? You're also right about the draisine. The idea that came to my head would basically be pulling away from what I wanted 2k1 to be. Simple and easy and fun. Involving breaking down things and having to craft items you didn't have to craft before would be annoying. I'm not sure slowing down the draisine would work either, because players could move pretty fast on foot in the first place. Though draisines can reach places you can't get to on foot. :) As for jobs... I'll see what I can come up with. If I don't find the jobs fun, I'll just keep changing them until they are. --- As for progress so far... I've been mainly working on graphics. I'm mostly done with the new GUI graphics and I scripted them to show on screen in the proper places. I've been doing tiles each day and so far I have new grass, tall grass, new fences, and new dirt (though the dirt might be changed). Once I get everything all put together I'll provide screenshots for people to tell me what they like/dislike about it. |

Hehe. Everytime you post, you post like 8 hrs worth of stuff. |
I'm going to help Konidias out a little when I have time. Levels and so on, once I see what kind of angle he wants to go on those.

Anyways, now that summer is around and I've actually refined my programming talent, (albeit little) I might try to help Graal 2k1 someway. |
